    Missed cut by a shot.

Pity he couldn't have made birdie on 15 after a perfect drive

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,157 ✭✭✭OEP

    He was poor this week

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,409 ✭✭✭boardise

Missed cut was inevitable at some stage and might be a blessing in a way. I seem to remember that he was set to play 6 events in 7 weeks . Pretty demanding that -so an extra few days off might help and also enable him to fix whatever has slipped out of kilter.

Hopefully his confidence won't suffer from his last four rounds and he can get back up and running next week.

Was on wrong side of the draw as well, scoring was 1.5 shots worse on early/late.

Great to see his world ranking still actually improved after the weekend, going from 46 to 45. Guessing he had something very poor falling off

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,784 ✭✭✭gypsy79

He only had 39 scores in his record so had a free round

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,608 ✭✭✭CMcsporty

Going out with CT Pan and Tway tomorrow 15:13 Irish time

strongest field he has played in his career

id imagine a T30 will move him inside Top 40 of rankings

strength of field rating at Riviera is 696, compared to 17 at the Barbasol when he won.

Crazy back 9 so far but still in the mix to make the cut

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,608 ✭✭✭CMcsporty

70 is a good score around Riviera.

He was a little unlucky with the DB on 10 and then followed it up an Eagle on 11.

One of only 2 eagles on the 11th...I think

if he shoots another 70 he’s making the cut

Seamie looks like he's going to clutch a miscut from the jaws of made cut

    Power struggling

That weekend meltdown at Pebble Beach seems to have sapped his confidence for now. He still has time to turn this round around and make the cut but he needs to stop making unforced errors.

    Fighting back well now..

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,305 ✭✭✭dublin49

needs 2 birdies to make cut, unlikely ,a rest might be for the best rather than scraping thru,

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,730 ✭✭✭abff

Missed the cut by 2. He needed a 15 foot putt on the last to make the cut and raced it over 6 feet past the hole and missed the putt back. Better to go out like that rather than leaving his putt short.

Definitely the meltdown seems to have mentally scarred him, it was some run though in fairness and he made a fortune.

Hopefully this is just a little burnout following a stellar run and not that we've seen him peak.

Putting seems to be off as well, plenty of 3 putts over the 2 days.

  • Registered Users Posts: 675 ✭✭✭Lad GAGA

Yeah this is where he'll really find out where his game is at. As McGinley says he'll be playing against all the top players, week in week out, on some of the toughest courses so if his game isn't up to scratch he won't make cuts/finish in the top ten etc. I think if he had of made the cut this week it would have been a huge boost for him, a lot of big names struggled on that course. He wasn't far away, but that's two missed cuts in a row, he needs to make the cut next time or else he could start to struggle. Still early days and he is still in a great position on the tour, he just needs to try and cement all his good work over the last few months in the weeks ahead.

That seems like a tough course for putting in particular.

    What does that entail?

Is it just a sponsorship program for the advertising?

He'll have to do a handful of promotional gigs a year for them - play a few rounds with customers/prizewinners etc.

This will be an important week for Seamus. He needs to start picking up world ranking points if he is going to stay in the top 50. He has now reached 40 tournaments and his divisor will go up to 41 next week. This would drop him to 50th as things stand and he will almost certainly drop out of the top 50 if he doesn’t perform well either this week or next week in the Players Championship.

It's incredible how the stress never goes away regardless of where you are, isn't it? A year ago seamus power was probably stressed about keeping his card / keeping the show on the road. Now he's stressed about staying in the top 50 in the world to qualify for the biggest tournament in the world.

Lowry is now a major winner and while he's still fairly high in the world rankings he's probably stressed about not having won since his Open win.

McIlroy is still getting the odd win and certainly competing regularly for wins. And he's stressed I'm sure about getting anther major win. And if he does get one immediately the focus will turn to can he win the masters.

    It really is relentless.

Good points on how different pressures are impacting on different players.

I expect McIlroy will go very well this wk. Loves Bay Hill and zero pressure on him.

Power might struggle this wk if he doesn't start well. Hes never played it before and he might start looking at that Cut line early in Rnd 2.

I've a good feeling about Power this wk. His OTT game and putting should suit Bay Hill. If he starts well i would think pressure will be off and he could fin Top20

According to his entry on the OWGR rankings, he has 40 tournaments played but the bottom two are showing as weeks 6 and 8 in 2020, followed by week 25 in 2020. Given that this is week 9 and those last two will drop out, doesn't that mean he can play two more tournaments before he goes above 40?
