I wonder do actors without beards even bother going to auditions anymore for the part of the Dad in ads featuring the modern Irish family?

speaking of bearded Irish Dads I can't stand that fella on the Lidl ad cooking up that awful looking meatfest ("these burgers are heading for the BBQ"), big head on him grinning at his kids stuffing their faces drives me mad for some reason. Its all just too cliched.

Find myself switching off these days, the quality of adverts has gone to the dogs. That new advert for mortgage or something where the father is looking for some document and the daughter mops up the milk with the paper. Seriously only a spoiled brat would do that at her age and the fathers reaction. Any normal parent would throw a wobbly in that situation. Add it to the bearded irish dad pile as well.

The Ladbrokes ad is shocking seems to be a very English ad too

I have to mute that one. Just like all the poverty porn ones or pay for your funeral ones.

Other ad buyers should take note. If your ad comes after one of these I will never hear it.

Oh and there should be a new circle of hell for the ambulance chasers "did you buy a Mercedes ? we may be entitled to your comp"

One of my colleagues was putting her daughter to bed one night and the child said:

"Mummy, do you think you were misold PPI?"

Turns out every second ad on Nickelodeon is for theses PPI ambulance chasers.

Me too. And it's supposed to be about how much money they've saved yet for the four of them there's enough food on the table for a small army.

The personal injury ads wih the talking babies.
The one that says 'medical negligence, it's the worst kind of negligence'.
KFC ad that says what the cluck? and a truly horrible piece of backing 'music'.

While I like the look of Laura in the Lidl ad (doing the shopping with her brother).

It seems to be on constantly. Every ad break. I've taken to muting it when fast forwarding isn't possible.

The Tampax ad 'you gotta get it up there girls' has been banned in its current format after 84 complaints to the ASAI
THE ADVERTISING STANDARDS Authority of Ireland (ASAI) has advised that a Tampax “tampons and tea” advertisement should not run again in the same format after receiving 84 complaints against the ad.

The ASAI upheld complaints that said the advertisement caused general offence, but did not uphold complaints which claimed it was demeaning to women, contained sexual innuendo, or was unsuitable for children.

Some complainants said that the advertisement was offensive and that it used an inappropriate manner to discuss a sensitive topic.

They said the advertisement was over-descriptive and had been expressed inappropriately with excessive detail.

The complaints of general offence were upheld by the ASAI.

I didn't really care for the ad but who in the name of jaysus was offended by it?

Vodafone really hammering us with that horrible female astronaut ad, annoys me that her managing to identify the Plough constellation inspires her to research wormholes? How does that work exactly? Probably be seeing it every break for the next 6 months aswell with their past form

I could identify the Plough and therefore the North star by the age of 5. They should have used Orion which IMO is much more iconic.

Minging ad. Genuinely didn't see the previous post until after I posted. Now I see there's more as well.

Yeah that new Vodafone ad is annoying. I have Vodafone broadband and it is often sh1te with buffering videos on Youtube. Great for that girl having a fast internet connection and it leading her to astronaut school, I'm clearly missing out on my dreams of going to space here with my dodgy Vodafone connection.

I was going to mention that KFC one but couldn't remember what it was for, the way her voice goes high pitched at "what the cluck? ". Headwrecking unfunny trash.

Nothing more off putting having your dinner when an ad goes on about ramming one up the chuffer.

The Argos one where the family are super-happy after they fill their back garden full of useless tat. The eejit of a dad blasting his crap music out as well, wouldn't like to live beside them.

And the U Switch ad where the father takes up electric guitar. He is doing an Eddie Van Halen type solo despite never moving his hand at all. Good trick that

I don't understand the concept of that ad. Somehow Vodafones internet is so amazing that it plays an integral part in some girl becoming a member of Starfleet or something. It's just broadband Vodafone you're not SpaceX or something.

I didn't really care for the ad but who in the name of jaysus was offended by it?

Mostly women, at least according to complaints. Everything from 'poor taste' to 'demeaning'.

(and it had a record number of complaints-so fair play Tampax. Fair play :D )

I had no real animosity to the advert. It just seemed like some people on here were more offended by having to explain menstruation to their children instead of the advert itsself.

It's got Jason Byrne in it... so of course I was going to hate it.

Never saw that tampax ad and don't plan on looking at the links on youtube. Love to see them try a Preparation H ad using that same "shove it" idea :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,292 ✭✭✭RabbleRouser2k

Most interesting thing, personally, about the whole tampon furore is that despite women being the complainants in the majority, and despite a woman being the CEO of ASAI... twitter folks still tried to blame men.

    Bloody insane (pun unintended).

I dunno, there were toilet paper adverts with the 'love your bum' motto.

Other one was a rather bizarre Koala stealing toilet paper advert.

If a Koala stole my toilet paper I would have a flipping conniption.

I thought the most interesting thing was that the reason it was banned was because it received complaints. The authority said there was nothing wrong with the ad. So 84 complaints gets any ad off the tv. We could organize the removal of an ad campaign among the posters on this thread alone.

'We're d O'Bey-rinns'- painful Aldi ad is back.

Slightly different but with man still wearing weird costume 'I like meat, I like meat'.
    Or something.

I thought it had gone away.

Ughh... Tampon tea makes me think of that creep Terry Richardson...

That and the 'tampon in a tea cup' scene from Ghostworld.
