We went yesterday Rosslare to Cherbourgh.
Around 30-40 cars boarding apart of trucks.
    Needed only passports.
Social welfare person with a guard were checking everyone if they are not claiming social welfare.
On board face masks mandatory but in reality not visibly enforced and ignored by some once boarded.
Bar open. Casino open after an hour from departure. Cinema open for up to 12 people. Public room for max 12 people. Food served in restaurant.
All this is only from my observation as I haven't used the services listed above on board.
Normal passport check on arrival in France.
People in Cherbourgh town are keeping their distance, not many wearing face masks.
We airbnb first two nights due to the rainy weather and to get the local experience before we hit the camp site on Sunday.

Thank you so so much! That's really put my mind at ease. Much appreciated.

I'm curious as to why they would be doing this?

Fairly sure this is a regular thing, not for the pandemic payments though. I think it's a normal thing for social welfare tourism

If you leave the country and are on the covid 19 payment, you are no longer entitled to it for the period you are outside the country plus the two weeks you have to isolate when you come back. There's been a good bit of publicity around this in the last few days.

    Hope all good with everyone.
Really missing our trip this year but forward planning for 2021 now.

Will be paying for Ferry with Tesco Tokens. IF. Does anyone know if you can add Flexibility for the €15 and still partially pay with Tesco Tokens ?

    Thanks

Supposed to in Florida as we speak so I've tuned out for a while :(

Was thinking of heading off to campsite in August but think we'll be giving a miss this year.

Supposed to be leaving the house right now for the short drive to Dublin Port and onto the WB Lates for the first time for our annual campsite holiday south west of Bordeaux. Not going. Feeling sad. :(

Rebooked for August 1st so fingers crossed I'm not feeling sad again in 4 weeks time

We're due to go on August 1st also. Was feeling optimistic up until this morning's headlines. Think they're going to keep pushing the travel ban further out until the summer is over.

    Missed them. What were they?

Given the headlines this morning and added pressure from work (!) not to go against govt advice, I’ve v v reluctantly decided not to go.

I’ll be going next year no matter what they say. The atmosphere will probably be less feverish around travel by then. I hope. :(

It’s so disappointing. In my view the advice is out of all proportion to the current situation. It’s France, not Texas.

They can't stop you leaving though can they?!! So terrified here!!! T-6 days til our ferry departs!

    Agree 100%.

However, one of us is a frontline worker and will be instructed to abide by quarantine restrictions on return. So, four weeks leave (that we don't have) for a two week holiday.

    So frustrated.

We're only able to do this because my husband is working from home and I'm a stay at home Mammy of 5 kids, so quarantine has been our norm since March and for at least 2 weeks following our return from France!

I’m not pointing the finger at anyone in particular but the quality of posting and information provided on this thread over the past few weeks has fallen away substantially.

What used to be a really good Forum has turned into an absolute farce full of idiots intent on getting their few days in the sun regardless of the Potential consequences. Little or no info provided by anyone on campsites, locations etc just the usual left wing waffle of “do what you want hun you’re not prison it’s a free country”. There’s plenty of Covid forums throughout boards, take your rubbish over there.

    It’s a joke shop.

    Really?

I think most of the posting is a reflection of the fact that the biggest issue at the moment is whether or not we can get to French campsites.

Lots of us are trying to make responsible decisions based on uncertainty while having thousands of euro invested with no guarantee of getting that back in credit notes or refund.

Well, for the first time ever I booked a French campsite.
Always "wing" it, but decided to have a guaranteed base for the first week anyway.
1st night off the ferry we'll wild camp somewhere along the coast between Cherborg and Mere St Eglise, then the short hop to Le Cormoran beside Utah Beach.
8 nights there, el hook up, €320 euro for 3 of us in a 5 berth motorhome.

That's about €80 more than last year would have been.
It's got a bar , evening entertainment, heated covered pool, outdoor pool with small slides, playground, tennis court, pizzeria, free aqua aerobics, zumba etc daily and free sand yatching on the beach ( which is just the other side of the road from the entrance.
Good hot showers etc, and barbecue stands set up around the place.
Mostly French stsying there, perhaps a half a dozen English caravans, and the same numbers of Dutch/German/Belgiums etc. Nice mix.
The last 5 or 6 days we'll head inland.
Perhaps towards Bayeux or perhaps not.
Always buy the little yellow or orange guide book to the regions markets, antique sales, car boot sales, flexible markets, and take in a couple of them if location and distance suits.
Do a bit of biking, few WW2 sites, one or two "proper" evening meals somewhere.

If nothing else the whole "free country" don't let the government tell you what to do conspiracy crap is right not left wing!!

We were due to sail tomorrow to Roscoff from Rosslare but knocked it back til September. Not worried bout things in France but cant afford to take the 14 day quarantine on return!

Following up on this. There was a difference in the fare of almost 400e so I emailed Brittany Ferries and asked about a voucher for same. I got an email asking if we'd definitely be going on the amended dates in September or did we intend amending it further. I replied we'd be going and they replied that they'd refund the money directly to my card rather than issuing a voucher. Money arrived in the account on Thursday.

Well done, they wouldn’t budge for us. Issued 2 RCNs for outbound and inbound. My rebooked trip was covered by the outbound voucher. Stuck with a €600 voucher for another trip we didn’t plan on taking.

    Must try them again

Strange. I didn't even mention getting the money back as I'd have been happy enough to put a voucher towards 2021!

It’s actually both but I have no doubt that the majority are on the Sinn Fein Government knocking bandwagon!

Today we arrived at LE HAUT DICK FLOWER CAMPSITE.
Facemask required in reception room and bar(I didn't see anybody in the bar). Not required in the pool area(very few people at the pool when we arrived after 6pm).
    Playground open.
Camp doesn't look too busy, same as the others which we saw from the road.
On the way we met good amount of French campervans.
Many places in town were already closed at half eight when we went there. Few restaurants(not so busy) and takeaways(busier) were open.

Sunday evening in france is a general snooze fest anyway as most places either dont open or only for limited hours in the morning. It'll be interesting to see how you get on as the week progresses.

Small villages in France are practically deserted by 8.30 most evenings, unless there's a football/rugby game on TV in a bar.

Sailing post can be found few pages back. All good on ferry, checking as well.
We have a great time, it is not only holiday to us but a journey to visit relatives :) We are not back in Ireland until September.

Today we are at Camping Omaha Beach, it is pretty busy, good amount of Europe's nationalities here.
    Facemask recommended.
Around 15 people at the pool. Pool furniture is sanitised after use.
    Playground open.
Plastic screens for staff behind the till seams common now.
