Rammstein are closer NIN than the drop kick Murphy's I'd say. Would have liked to see Rancid but the DKM's less so. Have visions of a load of semi arthritic old men doing themselves damage trying to mosh at that one :pac::pac:

Yeah I liked a bit of NIN back in the day. Also Korn and Tool.

My mosh pit days are well behind me now. I prefer to stand back and enjoy the show so you don't have to worry about my knees or my back giving out :D

You seem to have a thing for American post punk bands, got a feeling that one could end up like a Munster derby.

Which of these are post punk? DKM??

Yeah I sort of do. I'm all about the metal, grunge and punk. Post punk if you insist

Doesn't have to be American though. Big fan of Rammstein.

If you like punk, this will be right up your street! http://www.rebellionfestivals.com/other-gigs (scroll down to the Dublin one)

If Pennywise and/or Bad Religion come to the Dublin gig, I'm in.

Well post punk is usually used towards American bands, like rancid, Dkms or even Green Day. A little too punky to be metal, but not punky enough to be punk is the way I'd view them. Think the Americans call them new wave, but I'm a little older, so new wave means something totally different to me.

I always thought post-punk was like Joy Division and The Cure and all those other bands what had feelings and stuff.

I have a varied taste mfceiling, I do like some of his songs!

Usually my taste is the likes of Guns n Roses, ACDC, Kings of Leon, Iron Maiden, Foos etc, but I do have artists like Billy Joel, Eminem, Johnny Cash, Hugh Laurie, Queen, and even Take That on my spotify! ;)

Hugh Laurie? Is he the lad who was part of Fry and Laurie? Is he a proper singer?

Yea he's like a blues/jazz piano type musician. Very good, really easy to listen to.

He's creative and talented but has doesn't enjoy too much recognition or success.

He's like the Ulster back line of the music world.

Who are the Ulster executives of the music world?

The lad who quit the Beatles before they became famous.

I was thinking more along the lines of...

Incapable of working together or with anyone else. Incapable of producing a successful product since the late 90s or early 2000s. Very good at coming up with insults for their peers:

Speaking of live acts, this is one I'd love to see at some stage.

Saw these guys last year and they were class.

I'm looking forward to Mumford and Sons but it seems they are not that liked if you read the gigs forum on here. Must be too mainstream or something, bloody gig hipsters.

All Mumford & Sons songs sound the same. A banjo that gets faster as the song goes on together with some shouty chorus. I'd rather watch paint dry. I usually go to Longitude on the Sunday but this year's lineup is awful

Kaleo are about the only act in Longitude that would stand out to me as ones to see tbh....

This reads like Swiss Toni from the Fast Show:

"You see, Synode, Mumford & Sons songs are a lot like making love to a beautiful woman, you basically have a banjo that gets faster and faster until the shouty chorus"

I have no idea. When it comes to music genres, I only know the broader ones. When people start talking sub genres of metal, hip hop, techno, punk etc. I haven't a clue.

I'm the same. It's like colours. There are a handful of colours I know. Everything else is just a light shade of, dark shade of or a mix of.

Spot on molloy. Salmon is food not a colour. The missus once said something about my "burnt-orange hoodie" and I respond with "you mean my red one?"

your missus just has a better eye for detail.

In a U.K. Sense that would be correct, but punk in America didn't really take off till the early to mid 80's, so their post punk is a little different. I wouldn't regard any of those bands as punk really.

It's not often I feel sorry for a Mod but ak is probably reading through these last few posts thinking "I've never heard of any of these DJs!"

My daughter won tickets for the Friday at longitude. She is 11 so that ruled her out. I considered going, but with a flight heading to Nice at 5.55 a.m the following morning with 4 ladies who are incapable of carrying luggage but having 11 million items with them, I decided to sell them instead.

To be fair I'd like to see Stormzy as I reckon he'd be very good live.

Seen Mumford a few times, once in the Gaiety and once in Salthill Park in Galway. They were great in these smaller venues with an intimate atmosphere. Saw them at Electric Picnic and they were less impressive. I think they're a good band, smaller places suit them better though.
