Em no the conversation just comes up and people speak their minds, Its not as if im a member of the hitler youth here like.

I didn't say you were. I said friends often share viewpoints because like attracts like. No offense meant to you BTW just that people radiate towards similar people thus concurring views

    *throws up hands*

Sheesh, enjoy the thread then. But honestly, if it gets locked, don't think it's just because "no-one can say anything bad about anyone IF they happen to be a Traveller" so much as "holy god, people, do you have to insult a sweeping section of the public because you've met some that are arseholes?".

The majority of people who have had dealings with travellers do not like them because they couldn't care less about settled people or civilised community. They are thieves, bullies, and think they have some God given right to get away with whatever they want because of their culture or whatever.

Apologists should ask themselves a question, why do people hate travellers?? Nobody woke up one morning and said to themselves " you know what, I think il start hating travellers from now on for the craic " . They are disliked because a huge amount of them are scumbags.

Now we can all " debate " that all night long and lie about how many lovely ones there are but nobody believes it, people can make up there own minds and they don't need to be told how they should feel about travellers.

Thing is venting your spleen on boards is pointless. It's all rabble rabble , I'm so indignant. Years and years of tedious shìt and revenge fantasies.

You can believe it or not but I personally know lots of travellers who are lovely but you might not notice them to be travellers because they mind their own business and act like any other person
I must be an apologist. Maybe I imagined them, or maybe they are playing a really, really long game and are all scheming together pretending to be nice in order to set me up in some scumbag way .....

Don't really see what would make them bother. There would have been nothing in it for them. Can't see them keeping up this charade for so long. Some of them have been acting for generations. I don't think I am that important to justify such pretence.

Who are we to assume they were of the 'traveler' culture? In the name of the holy spirit of equality and same-sex marriage they could've been anyone really..

I don't think these particular travellers you talk about actually exist.

I think its fairly easy to tell a traveller in fairness, and even easier to tell a group of travellers.

Knacks gotta be a-knackin. But all sorts of degenerate love throwing things. Throwing stuff, wherever it goes, is a great past time for the knack. They love throwing.

They seem to be the only people bar Muslims that it's not being a "bigot" to tar with the one brush on boards. And even Muslim bashing threads get shut down livelier

They must be figments of my imagination so. They will be offended when I.tell them they don't exist. Perhaps they are apparitions.

84% of them are officially unemployed.
A detailed review of the 2011 population study has found that travellers make up 29,573 or 0.6% of the population but the community has some of the poorest socio-economic statistics.
The report showed that there are 9,973 travellers able to work but they have an 84% unemployment rate, up from 75% in 2006. Travellers also suffer higher disability rates than the general population.

A kid broke a window in my house a few years ago. Knew who it was and reported it to the Gardai. They caught up with him and I informed them that I'd be taking it further. Be it the kid or his parents that got the rap.
"Friends" of this family called my house that night to apologise on behalf of the childs family and there was no need to involve the law.
The Garda called back the following day and told me if they were willing to pay for the damage, I'd be as well off leaving it at that because" You'd only be bringing trouble on yourself" if it was taken further. And not to push the issue of money either, for the same reason.
Someone made a joke earlier that they're a protected species. Well, it's no joke. They live outside the conventions of the law, society and common decency.
They're inconsiderate of those around them, often reckless in their behaviour and show little or no regard for the health, safety or wellbeing of themselves or those in their proximity.
And I'll be honest. And this shames me,but I have a hard time finding any sympathy for them, when any real tragedy befalls them.

Why would I know? I seem to be the only person on here who doesn't.

Why do non of the PC brigade living in Portobello
Rathgar Clontarf Donnybrook or Ranelagh want or allow halting sites in their area?
They was outrage from Howth years ago when they wanted to put social housing there.

The posh class say discrimination is based on ignorance.
How come it's the people who live nearest to a certain minority dislike them the most and the more they get to know they the more they dislike them?

Donnybrook would be perfect for them I mean RTE is all about diversity and understanding.

Is that surprising considering the anti traveller sentiment prevalent in this country. Would you hire a traveller? If you push people to the margins of society what options do they have to integrate?

I would have nothing to do with them if I had a choice but I through no fault of my own and had a number of encounters with them over the years all negative.

I live in a small rural area that has two settled traveller families living here for 30+ years. Zero trouble from them. Ever.
