If there's no public reception for the GOAT when he returns with 2 belts and Eddies head on a plate I'll be going on hunger strike, give him the key to the city and a statue at minimum.

You should do the gym visit before the hospital visit with your camera. If you scold him enough on his Facebook shaming then ask for the autograph, you just might get the endoscopy for free.*

    * I'm not sure how easy it'll be getting your camera back :(

    haha.

I've praised John many times on this thread for what he has achieved and his perseverance in making a go of his gyms when it was easier many times to jack it in and do some engineering stuff. He certainly didn't get into all this for fame or fortune - there was neither to be had when he started in 2000 - and i couldn't see myself keeping at it training in a school-hall in Crumlin part-time or in the equivalent of a porta-cabin in Harolds Cross.

As any regular on this page knows, i'm most certainly not a fan of that 'Mental Message' segment on his FB and it's the only real criticism i have of him. Well, that and i think he spreads himself too thin and needs a full time Co-Head Coach. Too many quality fighters at SBG. I'd like to see an official co-Head Coach like Paddy or Roddy. Kav-Rod could be the new Jackson-Wink.

Maybe i let my own personal struggle with depression and anxiety skew my opinions on this topic but i do have strong feelings on it. Izabel Laxamana - the 13 year old girl who had her hair cut by her father in punishment. Completely ridiculous punishment to inflict on a teenage girl, in my opinion. Worse, the video was circulated on FB. She got out the car and jumped off a bridge.

Online humiliation is becoming one of the most common suicide triggers in the culture we live in; a culture where it is seemingly normal to a) troll people and b) humiliate and online shame people.

    It's really saddening.

Recently on social media i saw someone make a post along the lines of this:

"Best advice i can give ppl is to know how to write a competent email to try secure job interviews".

After quickly deciding that was roughly 80 characters, i decided to reply:

    "people".

Seemed a harmless enough sarcastic reply but i do regret it. Was fairly pointless. I'm sure they knew how to spell "people".

This person had tens of thousands of followers and tweeted back "fcuk yourself". I then had roughly 10 tweets/PMs threatening me, 50 tweets calling me names and others advising me over PM to do the world a favour and jump into a river.

I don't think John or people in positions like his contemplate how powerful social media is. They can certainly control their own tweets/posts but they 100% can't control what their followers decide to do. And what i particularly dislike about that segment is he screenshots Private Messages, which by design are meant to be private. There's no malice behind the segment at all but it could lead to serious issues.

Anyway it'll be Groundhog Day if i keep writing.

We're coming into Movember now. Young men remain the highest risk of suicide in this country and globally. I would encourage everybody here, including myself, to bear that in mind when using social media. This isn't about political correctness or walking on eggshells.

I'd just like everyone to count to 10 next time they want to publicly rip someone on FB or Twitter and ask themselves 'what is this achieving for me?'. If the answer is "sh1ts and giggles" then please don't do it.

Now, where was i.... oh yeah that autograph! :)

Roddy and Paddy are busy enough being head coaches in Charlestown and Tallaght I'd imagine, not a bad idea though.
One event I was at, he must have been in and out for 80% of the fights.

    Yeah it's not just that.

James Gallagher was initially scheduled to be on the Israel Bellator card. November 10th.

That'd be an absolute mission if that went ahead as originally planned. Kavanagh would have had to, theoretically, get an 11 hour flight on the wednesday night from JFK, corner Gallagher, hop straight back on a plane to NY to corner Conor.

    In theory anyway.

Whereas if that was Jackson-Wink, i'd assume that Greg Jackson would stay in NY and Mike Winkeljohn would take the Israel gig.

The opening of Tallaght and Charlestown is great for the lads but they've just got too much talent at their disposal fighter wise and not enough Head Coaches to do them all justice.

He can only be in one place at once and he's gonna burn out if he keeps up the workload he's undertaking.

No, i love New York been many times but not going to the event.

BJPenn is hardly a "news site", glorified click-bait everywhere.

To be fair, the original story came (i believe) from NewsTalk and possibly Petesy Carroll.

The Real Madrid spokeswoman said they would strongly welcome a McGregor show. A spokesman for the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff said likewise.

Of course they would. 80,000 Irish arriving into any city for a p1ss-up, hotels, food etc and you're talking millions in revenue generated for the city.

It's a "stating the bleedin' obvious" story.

Spain isnt a market they seem to target so little chance of a show there never mind ppv, although the weather would be the only thing going for it in staging an outdoor event.

Okay so, do you really expect us to believe that the man who fought Dave Hill at the Helix was Conor??

Fair enough, it was obviously a McGregor but quite clearly that man was in his mid-thirties and the type that wouldn't think twice about sticking the head on someone for so much as looking twice at them...

    conorcroped.jpg

Yet in 2013, on the back of the thirty-something Conor's success, young Conor is photographed looking handsome and as happy as ever, but sure why wouldn't he when another man was doing his fighting for him...

    Screen-Shot-2015-07-30-at-135102.png

So who was that 2012 Conor? An older brother? A distant cousin perhaps? I think it's time the public knew the truth.

I believe you are implying this thread was once a safe-haven for insightful debate?

Let's be real about it - there's only so many times we can break down the Alvarez fight.

Even then the consensus is pretty similar - Eddie needs to get his hands on Conor (quick), drag him to the ground or pin him against the fence, ride out the first 2 rounds where Conor is lethal.

Conor needs to stuff the takedowns, attack the body and be precise with his counter-punching. And preferably knock him out early.

Anyway, if you think this is descending into madness you'd have loved the questions i was asking Conors mam last time i saw her :pac: I, somehow, got on to debating the merits of carpet v wood flooring with her. :)

Ok youve brought this up enough so I'll ask.

If i read your criticisms, without seeing what was posted, id imagine some jock making fun of some really dark sad messages from people in need of desperate help. Ive received many of them. Ive never made any public but have done what i can. But my question is which of the messages i have posted would you have most grievance to? I'm pretty careful what i make public but also recognise im far from perfect so always willing to try and improve.

As for your incident of getting some mean messages. I get messages asking for pics of my fiancée, telling me my fag brother is going to hell, my girl only with me for money and that she cheats on me, my only worth is coaching conor, my coaching is ****, threats on me and my family....thats the daily stuff, oftentimes it's much darker. Gotta take the good with the bad eh?

I assume if you're any way known ye get that, why doesn't conor have that problem then? Or kanye? The problem is 1. that you read them, 2. that you take a word of it seriously enough to care

JohnSBG, while you're here and if you're of a mind to discuss the fight on the 12th:

Whats your and Conors predictions for the fight?

With all due respect to Eddie as an athlete, I just cant help but seehim getting hit with some massive shots in the first round and getting TKO'd.

    Thank you for the reply.

The fella who asked you who would win in a fight between you and Andy Ryan. I think that was a relatively harmless question and not worthy of mockiing publicly. The BJJ coach who invited you to the seminar in Italy and got the hump when you said you'd no time and then he accused you of lacking humility. Again, not in my mind worthy of taking the piss out of the guy - that looked like a genuine private convo to me.

There's others but i don't want to write an essay.

I don't think any celebrity, athlete or even ordinary person "has to take the good with the bad".

They shouldn't have to. There should be no rule saying "well you're famous so what do you expect".

I'm a big fan of James, personally, and it's awful anybody even mentions his sexuality. It's 2016, one love.

I don't have all the answers for you in this respect. I don't know what can be done to avoid it. Adjusting privacy settings on your private Facebook might help a little but it still leaves you vulnerable to nasty sh1te on Twitter and Instagram.

The point i was trying to make to you is this:

You get a lot of hate, abuse etc yourself as you mentioned above and it can be downright nasty and awful.

In publicly taking the p1ss out of people, it leaves them vulnerable to the exact same. Conor has a massive fanbase, you have a fanbase too. When you post those messages, it might give you a bit of craic but you've no idea if that person is then receiving a ton of abuse themselves afterwards.

I'm literally the biggest Conor fan you can imagine, which is rather sad for a 30-something man, but even i get nasty stuff off his hardcore fans if i say anything negative about him.

You can only control your own tweets and posts. You can't control what your followers do as a result of those posts. That's why i felt it was a segment with no up-side beyond a few laughs.

Look, at the end of the day you probably think i'm making out a mountain out of a molehill.

I'm a huge supporter of everything you're doing in the gym, for Irish MMA and for the youth of Dublin.

People just think "Conor" when it comes to you but i personally know people you've coached and what a positive difference JiuJitsu made to their lives. That's not to mention all the lads like Dylan, Frans, Kiefer, Cian etc who are coming up.

I won't mention your segment again. You've bigger fish to fry in NY than this. I've made my point and i hope even a little of what i've said in reply makes sense.

Excuse me but if he wants to join he'll have to OK it with the administrators of the league just like everyone else. :)

There's no special treatment here. He might be the most successful MMA coach this country has ever seen but fantasy MMA is a different ball game altogether and not for the faint of heart. Even someome of the seasoned players are having near complete meltdowns on a regular basis!!
