With the exception of the Edgar thing (who didn't get it done against Aldo to have his shot)... I think I pretty much nailed this from last year :) :

If McGregor goes up to 155, he's not coming back to 145... that's my prediction.

So I think he fights Edgar and if he wins, that's the division cleared for the moment, he goes up to fight at 155 , possibly holds two belts and then relinquishes the 145 one. He'll get a straight shot at the champion too, its just too big a money fight to do some contender nonsense beforehand. :)

The reasoning being, that if he goes to 155, it cant just be water weight, he'll have/want to put on some muscle to contend with the monsters in that division. I just don't see him returning to 145 if he does that.

Rumours getting stronger he's retiring after 205.

Left field announcement is retirement or long term hiatus according to this

    http://www.punditarena.com/mmaufc/gbrennan/rumour-conor-mcgregor-set-to-announce-retirement-after-ufc-205/

As it says, it would be a massive blow to UFC, but his status is set now and could take so many different routes to keep him busy....if it is true

    Hopefully its not

Even if he wins, if he retires after 205 he can never be brought up in discussions about being one of the best ever.

As it stands he's fought 3 top tier fighters in Mendes, Diaz and Aldo. Diaz dominated him and then Conor won an arguable points win, Chad gassed after no camp and Aldo was a flash knockout. He needs to fight more top tier fighters before anyone can pretend his current record is worthy of any sort of legacy talk.

and never defended any belt he had in any organization

I think you could argue Diaz won 3 rounds to two. He out struck Conor by over 100 strikes and had more significant strikes to boot. I'd give 2, 3 and 5 to Diaz. Others say Conor won 1,3 and 4, I can see the arguement, but to me I think Diaz edged round 3.

    Babble.

Diaz was knocked to the ground twice in two, and had a late flurry. No one is saying Conor won three.

It's been 7 weeks since I watched it for the 2nd time, so I got the rounds mixed up, it happens.

Overall doesn't matter. You score round by round. 1, 2 and 4 to Conor. Conor had more significant strikes and two knockdowns in that round 2 you're giving to diaz by the way. Anyway at this stage it's fairly known you have an issue with mcgregor and/or his fans so no point getting into a discussion with you i guess.

But anyway back to my original point. If he retires he has no legacy, two belts or not.

Not credibly you couldn't. But then again all logic goes out with window with you when it comes to Conor. Also you saying that Diaz dominated him in the first fight is hilarious. He finished it conclusively for sure, that doesn't equal domination. Conor won round 1 easily and was winning round 2 even handier until he got hurt/gassed.

Hopefully he's not retiring but I wouldn't be surprised. If he wins and retires, his comeback fight after a year or two will do all kinds of crazy numbers, especially if he does some Hollywood during his time off.

if he wins that second belt and the lays them both on the cage floor with his gloves.....its as clear as day he is ducking Khabib.

    /runs.....

It taints his legacy. It by no means says he has no legacy. How can a dual weight champion (if he wins) not have a legacy??? Answer that without your anti Conor bias.

highly doubt he will be retiring but hypothetically he'd be after making more money from the sport than basically anyone bar the fertitas and retiring young with no brain/health concerns? criticizing a guy for that is the equivalent of calling a wrestler a pussy cause he doesnt 'stand and bang'

I don't think he'd be ducking anyone. I'd say his self belief is second to none and he honestly believes he could move up to 170 and take that as well.

If he retires it will be because he's just sick of the workload or himself and the missus are starting the baby factory up and he wants to be around more for that.

Even if he does retire, as the lad above you said, he'd be back within a few years.

Without knowing anything more about it other than the punditarena article, I'd say he's leveraging for a contract closer to his actual value. Despite what he gets paid, he still deserves much more than that, his PPV numbers are consistently amazing. Even quadrupling his pay would be worthwhile for the UFC just to hold onto him.

But as I said, I know nothing more than the article says and it could very well be a genuine retirement.

Not criticising Conor at all. Get in, get rich, get out and with no (known) long term damage. Fair fecking play to him, the absolute smartest way to play the game.

You just couldn't have him in conversations about the greatest of all time.

In terms of the greatest of all time, there's just too many ahead of him who have done more in the cage than him.

if he beats alvarez on the 12th and you think hes going anywhere other than the hof you're deluded. first concurrent two weight champion but he hasnt done anything in the cage...riiight

In fairness that's different to saying he would have no legacy. I wouldn't have him in the top 5 of all time as it stands but he definitely has a legacy as it stands.
