Super anxious about some upcoming major medical tests... and on the other hand, super anxious about a weeks delay in waiting for them. Overthinking isn't helping. As if that's not enough, other deadlines are coming due, altogether adding up to a very stressful upcoming week. I expect to be a complete basketcase come thursday :/

So the family s going away for 2 weeks leaving me home alone. I have to say I'm very anxious about being alone for such a long time. Other than that my anxiety has more or less disappeared since I gave up the coffee.

embrace it, it can be great to have some space for yourself, with no one disrupting you, i normally try get some house work done during such events, painting etc, which can be very difficult to do with others around

    Nice one re coffee.

Maybe spend the next couple of weeks watching your thoughts and write them down. And come back with any insights.

    Hi all,

I've been like a new person without the coffee the last few weeks.

I had a 20 minute rush of anxiety earlier. That's literally the only time since giving up the caffeine. It was tough but only lasted 20 minutes.

Let's hope it stays this way

Feeling really anxious and down today. Too much stuff getting on top of me. Mixture of easy and hard/impossible problems.

Anxiety off the scale with my 90 yo father in hospital since Sunday week ago where he contracted Covid. Each day it takes multiple calls to the ard before they pick up so I can get any kind of update. It can take hours to eventually talk to someone. I'm so anxious right now, I feel sick and light headed. And then the relatives are ringing me for an update.......

I'd echo the same, Your bound to be anxious whether previously suffering from anxiety or not so just take care of yourself as best you can. Hope your dad will be ok x

Thanks for the well wishes. Today's update was positive, not that they tell you much. But his symptoms remain very mild so I'm calmer for now.

You need to heal too. Sore dose.. Your daughter will understand, not very comforting words at this hour of night i know but things will improve, they always somehow do..

All you can do is your best, you can't pour from an empty cup.

Sorry you're going through a rough time, really hope you feel better soon and hope you're getting some support

Feeling really pretty bad today. Got out for a walk with the dog and beautiful summer day. But been beating myself up mentally all day and getting no joy from anything. It's like a really bad hangover.

I'm accidentally after describing part of my mental health in another thread there. It's a toxic soup of anxiety, inertia and punitive behaviours

I've applied for a part time position within my own company.

I've been out sick too long and the thoughts of going full time is not an option for me at the moment the way things are.

Hopefully they accept my application for part time. It will at the very least get me out of the house a few days in the week.

@carzony wishing you success with that.. Companies in general seem to be quite a bit more flexible from what i observe since lockdowns

Might try the same for a few months. I've a load of things that are getting out of control and I can't keep up.

The Manager emailed me asking about my current status and if I had any updated paperwork from the GP in relation to my sick leave. So I informed her I applied for the part time position. No reply as of yet.

If she gets awkward I may well have to resign as I'm not ready mentally to return to a full time roster. The part time is a lot less money, I'm not even sure if I'd be entitled to any SW payment but it'd be idea for me for now.

The one thing I've learned is in relation to work and jobs is you need to do what suits you.

Hopefully I get a good reply from them.

It's hard to get back to work if you leave, can you get a sick leave extension?

I'm trying to focus on work here, but wasting time on boards instead. Working from home today and the kids and dogs next door are screaming and barking.

I definitely need a change of scene. I've left a job before when I was burned out, but I really should have taken sick leave.

Took me a few months to get another job. In hindsight it was worth it as I got away from the dead end role and experience in my old place.

Will do my work later tonight and get some food now.

I don't want a sick leave extension at this stage. Returning to work albeit part time will be good for me.

I've had very low level anxiety due to general boredom and the lack of socialising hasn't done me any favours either.

I feel a few months of part time work would be definitely positive. I'm not ready to dive back into full time.

Do prepare for the financial implications of part time work, it can be a pain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,844 ✭✭✭carzony

I don't have many outgoings so it should be fine

I'm more doing it to get out of the house.

This, I went part time when I returned to work after sick leave and it's not easy. I took carer's leave for the summer, having applied mid May, 6 week's in advance and still waiting on it. I'll be 4 week's this week without a wage which I'm sure isn't helping my anxiety/depression.

The system really feels like an either/or job. Be full time or welfare based, unless you have a magic money tree and can prepare to return to full time without being paid for a period of time.. A recent part time role for my wife didn't work out. I can't forsee us trying to struggle through that again.

Exactly this, it fells like sometimes you'd be better off not working at all but I need it for my mental health.

It's trying to do work and manage all the other stuff that's killing me. Work is easy compared to real life for me.
