Its a bigger issue as its a lock knife.

If its accessible to you from driver seat really no excuse in the boot and good reason one should be OK but it all boils down to what you would actually need it for.

I dont think an unsprung flip knife/lock knife gets any special recognition in the courts after all it is just a fancy stanley knife. I've the very same one thrown up on the dash of the farm van. Surely the smell of silage off it would be enough for a garda to use common sense.

A sprung switchblade or butterflyknife is the one that's against the law as far as I know.

This being in tuam it could have been a fella of a certain ethnicity who I'm assuming had no valid reason for having a knife

You'd have to ask an organisation known for their alliteration of the letter P for the official stance ;)

I've done a tour of the joy within the last 6 months, in some cells they have televisions, playstations, x-boxes, dart boards, unlimited amounts of dvds that they can choose from the common room, one cell a lad has a fish tank in it! They get what they want, when they want, they have more power than the wardens now due to the PC brigade and softies not letting them be treated like the yobs that they are!

Was that the general prison or the training unit that had all that stuff?

It looks exactly like a knife I have myself, Lidl sell them regularly. Perfect for working as it's safe in your pocket but better than a penknife as it's got a better handle and bigger blade.

Its often a person would have their knife in the door pocket of the car or jeep if you regularly used it. A farmer will pretty much have a knife within reach 24/7 for example so it wouldn't be out of the ordinary at all which is why I think they had good reason to highlight it with this person.

There's a very simple answer to the problems of people that don't tax their cars. Do away with the road tax system, and put it on fuel instead.

Also solves the problem of the shyte that the manufacturers bring into Ireland with the smallest engine they make to avoid the problems of the tax being too high on the reasonable performance vehicles. If it's a gas guzzler, then the user pays for it, if it's actually cheaper on fuel because the performance is better balanced, win win for everyone, the manufacturer gets a better reputation for a good performance vehicle, the user has a safer car because it's a better performer, and the fuel economy means less pollution.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Only works if it were done across the border. Otherwise 1/3 of the country would fuel up in Newry as the price delta would be huge.

Also the cost of living index would rise as delivery costs would be higher

Add dye similar to diesel, make it an offence to use undyed diesel in a vehicle registered in the state.

So realistically what can be done with people that drive with no tax or insurance...person living near has been driving years with no tax, insurance or nct for years and I am sure many more doing the same..he has been caught 3 times and had 3 cars taken off him..all he does is buy some rust bucket the next day and is back on road...he gets fined but doesn't pay, the longest he has spent in prison was 4 months ...yet he still continues to drive..where we are guards are in station only 2 days a week ..he changes car so often they don't know what he does be driving...it was a mini bus last week

The local guards only know right well...they nick him when they can or are around...they would need to sit outside his house to stop him..car gets towed impounded he gets brought to court gets a fine and suspended sentence or a few weeks inside...he knows what roads the checkpoints are on and sticks to the local back roads...he has saved a fortune on tax and insurance.
    I'm confused now.

As in they know he changes the car when old one gets impounded not the exact car he does be driving from month to month or even week to week....and he doesn't always park the cars at his own house...as I said station here only open a few days a week which nearly gives him free rein to drive around...

Unless we leave the EU that can't be done. Free movement of goods, etc.

Only way it could work post Brexit would be if (1) all EU countries also added some type of "purchased in EU" marker or (2), the UK added some type of marker to all fuel sold there.

That shows up on my screen as 04:19 in the morning. Would explain the light level and reduces the severity of the offense (in my opinion).

Of course there was a woman killed while walking on the N2 on Saturday.

SO you should tell them as soon as he changes the car then, right? And you don't need to wait for the station to be open - you can make a call anytime, via TrafficWatch.

I've 3 or 4 knives in the back of my car. A lot of the time one'll be in the passenger foot well. What's the laws on it?

It's an offence to have with you any knife or any other article which has a blade or which is sharply pointed in a public place without lawful authority or a "good reason" or for work or recreational purposes.

That'd be 93.0 metres. Those speed guns only have a range of about 500 metres.

That makes more sense alright! Couldn't see the decimal with the lighting etc.
