Walsh park would be a good venue

Rumours they were trying to put it in Johnstown in the factory across from Grimes this year

I have been to countless dance gigs myself and in the oddest of places. I am not a drug user myself and yes there is ones who are there off there head but there is plenty of people who don't take drugs at it.

Crazy that a guy who loves dance music not taking pills? :O

I thought I read in one of the local papers that they are hoping to move it to the former gasworks down by the park. They are hoping to have that open as a car park within the next couple of months.

Why the emphasis on car parks ??? You don't see outdoor gigs in Dublin or Cork in car parks lol but I imagine with Waterford we have no venues capabile other than car parks ??

As there big huge open spaces where you can easily fit two stages at each end in.

Then the fact carparks are in sites that are very very easy to get to.

Then as there is no green area to mess up means it's a very easy place to clean up after.

Ohh as it's going to be outdoor with the ground being hard means if rain happens it means that people will not be covered in mud.

There a few reasons why a car park is a good place to hold a gig?

Have to say your wrong. The crowd was very well behaved and no issue at the rave sets on Friday. The only agro I seen was at Ocean Colour Scene. A few very messy people some escorted off the premises. It's very wrong to paint everyone with the same brush.

A few well known drug dealers in the town spent most of Friday night going in and out of the toilet area, there were two guys in particular that seemed to be very very popular, the amount of people I saw going up and hugging these two lads and shaking hands was unreal. This was going on from the minute they arrived in to the RSC at 6pm.

Regarding any trouble, well I certainly didn't see any hint of any aggro on Friday night, the crowd seemed to be more interested in enjoying the acts that were on and were dancing away. I agree that it's wrong to single out one particular group against another. I can't comment on Saturday night as I wasn't there.

Sir you must have never been in a Loo in a nightclub or a late bar in your life if you are shocked at seeing drug dealing.

In front of where i live in cork i seen drug dealing happen all the time but i don't say anything as its each to there own.

No actually, I was collecting for a local organisation and we were positioned in the area infront of the toilets so we had full view of everything going on between there and the DJ tent.

Certainly wasn't shocked by it, I was just pointing out that it was indeed going on there on Friday night is all.

It sure was, but there was nothing anyone could do about that, sure De la Salle had a charity cycle planned for Sunday morning and late Friday night on the advice of Gardai they had to cancel this due to those diversions to allow works continue for the new greenway.

    Woe is me....

Your prob the person who would knock on your neighbors door is there dog was backing as you don't get your time to relax....

Look Waterford does not get many gigs at all just let people enjoy them sells for 3 days of the year.

Whats wrong with people wanting to enjoy their evening in their own home relaxing and not listen to 3 days of music blaring? I'm sure you wouldn't like to listen to a Kango hammer drill outside your door for the 3 days till 11.30 at night. As for lack of concerts quite a few places around waterford that have indoor concerts, Woodlands, shorts etc so why can't they use them. It's not as if daydripper has 50,000 or 60,000 attending them by the looks of it may be 1000 or so per evening which is bugger all.
Many locals around outdoor concert venues are getting fed up and putting their foot down over noise etc because how it affects the old, sick, children etc look at Croke Park and Marley Park. Not everyone works 9 to 5, not everyone like the music that's being played and not everyone wants to listen to it for 3 days.
From what I can gather there is a 75db limit on concerts, Marley park is 72db and I wonder if there is a db limit for daytripper in waterford and was anyone monitoring it. I'd love to see the planing conditions outlined for it. Also Croke Park and 02 they have to finish up by 11 marley usually finishes at 10.45 which is more reasonable so why can't waterford. No one is saying stop the concerts just not to have them where it's not making peoples lives a misery.

My god, I can't tolerate the level of whinging in this post. You must be the biggest moan bag to have ever graced the planet. I sincerely apologise that other people's fun impacted your nice quiet game of bridge with yourself.

And you miss is why Waterford gets a bad name for moaning about stuff when there is things on in the city for a CHANGE.

They don't use then places if your wondering as there way to small calling shorts a place for gigs is quite funny the stage and dance floor is about as big as my sitting room.

There was a place for gigs in Waterford called the forum and it was big from what I remanber of it. Waterford people did not support it and it's now a bingo hall.

This is the one time a year Waterford gets people in music with some kind of name valve just shut up and deal with it and be happy for your city.

Was it a success and will it be on next year?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭longshanks

I'd say it's success is building year on year. The word is out now that Waterford can host a well run, easily accessible music festival. I spoke to a load of people who said they'd make the trip back next year, given a similarly styled line up. I hope plans are being made for next year, bigger and louder than ever.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,397 ✭✭✭danois

I would say it was a success. I think it needs more advertisement I only spotted it by chance. I will be going back and after seeing kids there will defo be bringing the family next year. My kids would have loved it.

Just wanted to say that I live closer to the RSC than a certain complainer but it wasn't too bad. It was noisy alright but it wasn't the end of the world. If it meant there was money coming into the town I'd put up with it on a weekly/monthly basis. Plus I enjoyed hearing the Oasis tribute act while I was in the garden.

Between this post, and the dunmore road "won't someone think of the childeren" girl i really don't know what to say.

PTH, there's drugs in more walks of life than just dance music, i could walk out on the street right now and pick out people whacked out of it on prescription drugs, and heroin, and you're giving out about people enjoying themselves? get a grip....and yes, this comment is coming from someone who DROVE to this event, and didn't take as much as 1 bottle of beer, let alone any drugs, if people want to enjoy themselves, let them do it, don't look down your nose at them.

Your comment is like me saying i don't listen to the Beatles because they are so heavily influenced by LSD....Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds....?

    Daytripper 2017 headliners

Night 1- dance night someone like Fatboy Slim, Judge Jules etc

Night 2- rock/britpop kind of night someone like Richard Ashcroft, Keane, Scissor Sisters etc

Night 3- 80's night. Would love someone like Tears For Fears, Mike and the mechanics, Pet Shop Boys, Human League etc.

I'd go for a one day festival with a huge headliner, Duran Duran along with a mixed genre support bill

Big no no for Judge Jules but fatboy slim could be a very good call. Joe public knows and likes his stuff and would sell out. I wouldn't mind basement Jaxx(live set not dj set) and i think they maybe cheaper than Fatboy slim.

What we need is a decent heavy rock/metal band to cater for us headbangers.
