You don't find the battery good? I'm finding it at least 50% better on my Edge than my old G4, which in turn was better than an S6.

Not sure about the YouTube thing as I don't watch it on my phone.

Not that great. Maybe I would need to run tests to see statistical benefits, I just don't notice it from day to day.

The youtube thing is pissing me off so much, I installed older versions and it's still the same

I don't own a s7 so I do not know the settings but youtube not displaying high resolution videos is not normal. You either changed a setting somewhere by accident.

FWIW, I tried a load of YouTube videos there and they were all max at 480p. Must try the same ones on the tablet later and see.

No issues with that on my S7E.. all 1080p without issues.

Have you a link to one that you've watched at 1080 so I can check? I don't mind not being able to watch them so long as the tablet is OK, but I'd be interested to know why.

    Sure.

Debating on picking up either an S7, S7 Edge or HTC 10.

    I have 2 questions about the screen on the edge that owners in here could help me with;

    1. Do the edges reflect a lot of light and make these parts of the screen less visible?

    2. When using the phone single handedly, does your palm accidentally touch the edges of the screen?

Cheers for the reply. Very undecided what to do. The slightly larger screen on the edge is swaying me but whether it justifies the extra cash is the other thing.

If I was too use that eBay unlocking link above to get the phone unlocked would I receive the updates instantly or still wait weeks for 3 to release it.

To #1 No. No problems at all
To#2 A total pain in the hole. Happens to me almost every time I try to use it with one hand and absolutely ALWAYS when I use the phone with no case.
Never had this problem with any other phone.

If you were to purchase again, would the S7 be the better option due to this frustration? Or does the curved design still trump the standard one regardless?

In my opinion, the edge screen is hugely overrated. Colour shift and reflections are negatives of it, along with your hand hitting off it. Once the novelty of it wears off, you realise that any of the edge features could easily function with a flat screen. There is no real benefit to it.

    P.S. I don't own S7 edge, have S6 edge+.....have moved onto HTC 10 though.

Wouldn't go for the edge. Hugely over rated. I'd save myself €100 and go with the S7

I agree entirely. I had the S7 Edge (and S6 edge before that). Due to the nature of amoled the edges shows a slightly off colour white but the curve makes it more noticeable. And then there are reflections. Lots of people do not notice it though. And of course activating the edge by mistake is a balls. I don't rate the edge features at all. The other negatives people sometimes forget is that most cases are not going to cover the edge or it defeats the purpose. But as a result the edge is now exposed so more susceptible to damage in the event of a drop. A good lot of the edges have slightly misaligned home buttons too.

I have now sold it, and got a regular S7 and much easier to use in one hand, and none of the hassles I had with the edge. Plus I have a decent case on it. The only minus is smaller battery and a 5.1 inch instead of a 5.5 inch screen.

I'm probably going to get a HTC 10 soon. I like the carbon black. Just waiting to see one in the flesh as my only concern is if the chamfers are polished there is a chance that they would be susceptible to surface scratches.

I disagree. When the S6 Edge came out, Erica Griffin on Youtube commented specifically on how the edge does lead to reflections due to the wrapped glass causing distortions. The flat one obviously doesn't have reflections as it's flat. Same story with S7. Also while both flat and edge have colour shifting visible on white backgrounds when viewing off axis (a common feature of amoled), it's really only noticeable on the edges, because of the curved edges.

You're very lucky. Colour shift is a known thing with pretty much any screen, definitely on Amoled. If you view a white screen from an angle, it normally goes blueish. On the edges, you are essentially viewing the screen on an angle, so it will tint.

If you don't notice it, or it doesn't bother you, then it's not a big deal. They wouldn't accept returning a phone for it.

Indeed, it's just a feature of the technology. So you can't exactly send it back. The same way IPS screens are known for having what is referred to as IPS glow but people mistake it for backlight bleeding. Or TN or VA panels have crap viewing angles. Amoled has the colour shift and that awful pentile matrix instead of rgb but it doesn't bother most people.

Pattw79, if you make your screen completely white and closely look at the edges you might see a slight blue or green vertical tint and if you tilt the screen you might see the colour shift slightly. If you don't then that's great. It annoyed me no end on my S7 edge (the ones in the shop had it too) as did the reflections using some apps. To be honest it's not something most people notice in every day use and I am likely too fussy.

Looking to pick up an S7 sim free after someone trashed my S6

Argos only terrestial option and its 800 plus

Amazon maybe 600 ish but worried about counterfeit (I'm prob safe on Amazon)

Found a place inside ILAC doing them for 650

And a few places on Moore St / Parnell St doing them for 500

To be honest I think 500 is too cheap and it must be a scam.

I have no interest in buying a fake or robbed phone. Has anyone any experience of buying a genuine S7 from any of those shops? My thinking is the shops inside the ILAC are probably kosher, they have goodwill and if it turned out to be fake and they wouldn't refund me I could just stand outside shop until they did.

The other smaller places on Moore St may as well be pop ups and aren't turning up in the small claims court if something goes wrong

But maybe I'm missing the value??

Absolutely loving the S7 Edge's camera. Fantastic all-round. Detail is excellent. Great quick to focus feature too. A quick sample shot attached below.

Just an update Samsung changed my phone in the end all problems fixed so happy days.

I'm arranging sending mine back at the moment. Had spotted random restarts but it's done it a few times while on calls now. Getting to be infuriating if it's work related or anything.

Wonder will they just send out another one or just say it's a software issue and update it? Do they tend to just replace them?

If it's a phone shop you bought it in, they send it to their repairers not Samsung directly. If they can't reproduce the issue then nothing happens. They just send it back. Even if it was within 30 days a lot of shops say they will replace it if they can reproduce the issue in the shop and confirm it's a fault. In most cases they don't have staff to do this, so it gets sent off anyway.

Yeah, this is hard to reproduce. I bought it factory unlocked in Argos. I've been in contact with Samsung and they said they will arrange a courier. By the sounds of it unless it does it in testing I'm stuck with a faulty phone then.
