I broke the screen on my wife's SIM free S7 edge. I was reading an article with the phone on the shelf above the sink while brushing my teeth, tipped off it and fell on a tiled floor :( Just caught the top corner - didn't shatter completely & worked ok but lots of cracks. Wife was very understanding! Had a very thin clear TPU case. Brought it to the Samsung store in Swords (bought it in Argos up North) and they sent it to fonefix in sandyford who I guess must be the official service centre as warranty was unaffected. Cost €230 and took 4 days. Looks as good as new. I presume is still waterproof but haven't checked this out.

Any recommendations on a good case that's not too bulky as have a wireless charger?

Edit: Just ordered a spigen neo-hybrid case on Amazon

Looking for some help please. I have the S7 Edge and for the life of me I cannot figure out why "Service Menu" does not work.

It works on nearly all Samsung phones and worked on the S6. When you go to your dialer and type in *#0*# you will be greeted with the servicing menu for the phone.

My S7 is accepting NONE of these commands that I know work. I type in *#0*# and nothing happens the code just sits there.

Can anyone help me? Is there something blocking my access? Do I need to disable something?

The SD card is used for storage of music and files. You cannot install apps etc... there.

Actually you can move some Apps to the SD card. This is something Samsung added support for. Go into App manager, select the app, select storage. If the app supports it then you can move it to the SD card. I have done that with some apps I don't use that often.

Also if you uninstall spotify and reinstall it, it will now cache to your SD card instead of your phones, and if you make files available offline it will use your SD card. That's why I went for the 200gb Sandisk ultra. I can keep a fair bit of my music collection from Spotify on there which is handy when wifi or data coverage is crap.

Also, video and photos will now also go automatically onto your SD card.

Regarding adoptable storage, it is possible to use it (need to google it) so you SD card and main system memory are treated as one, but I wouldn't bother, considering SD cards are an order of magnitude slower than the fast UFS memory on the S7. As a result your phone will only work as fast as the slowest component. Adoptable storage will slow it down. It was a feature designed for emerging markets anyway where phones were equipped with meagre system storage.

    Well folks.

Is anyone using the S7 in an otterbox??
Can you use a tempered glass screen protector with that case?? I bought the protector from an American site that was posted on here at a discount.. It's amazing quality.

Depends on what otter box. You can with the symmetry, commuter and strada series. Not sure about the defender.

Of course there isn't any decent glass protectors for the S7 edge or even the S7. They either lift, interfere with touch sensitivity or don't stick properly. This is a problem with the edge version and also the flat version which has a slight curve due to the 2.5d glass. There are also edge to edge protectors from the likes of Spigen but these are ugly as hell and don't stick properly either. Zaag are promising a glass curve screen protector. Still listed as coming soon.

Typing that on mine brought up the service menu without issue.

I'm looking for a good screen protector and found this on eBay. The postage to Ireland is frankly ridiculous for what it is though. Anyone know where I can get it for a reasonable price please?

:edit: Don't buy this. I just applied it and both sides of the protector don't lie flat with the screen. I believe this is caused by a curve on the screen (as mentioned above). After looking at the eBay feedback I'm gonna try for a refund.

    You have been warned! :)

Clear coat is a great screen protector. I've used it on all of my phones for almost 10 years. I have a s6 edge at the moment & it fit perfectly. The curved edges weren't an issue. A year later it's still fitting perfectly, not lifting or pealing at all.
Down side is it might have to be ordered from the states.

Are the screen knight or clear coat tempered glass ?

Personally I'd like a decent glass one to act as a sacrificial barrier in case of drops, seeing as gorilla glass 4 is kind of brittle.

Not concerned about scratches as you need to hit around 6 or 7 on the mohs scale before the screen will mark permanently. And the only thing that can do that is sand, gravel etc.. Keys, coins etc.. are certainly not going to scratch the S7 screen though I believe the back glass is a little less scratch resistant, but that's what cases or skins are for. In any case I don't see the point of plastic protectors. I believe most are only around level 4 and so less scratch resistant than the original glass and look crap too.

I really hate this phone, the back somehow cracked in my pocket.... I was planning on bringing it to the store friday to get the rebooting sorted. what would happen now? would it still get sorted or would they try blame the crack for it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,972 ✭✭✭Flaccus

Unfortunately they might. Either way unless you have insurance you would be looking at a repair bill to get the back glass replaced first I think.

Coral guards tempered glass looks like they might be a good option for the regular s7 screen. They're out of stock on their site so I'm trying a simialr one off Amazon which should arrive today.

Dropped my phone yesterday and smashed the crummy zagg tempered glass one. Did it's job with just a small scratch on the ear piece that a permanent black marker has just fixed.

Thanks for reply. I think I will get the phone sorted and sell it. Use the ultra 6 until the note 6 is out.
Think i found out what happened. found a 1 cent coin in the case, so probably cracked it when closing. Why do they put glass on the back of phones

How would someone go about unlocking an S7E? I got one from 3 as an upgrade so can't request the unlock code from them, but is there any other way, if I google I get a lot of sites that claim they can do it, but they look dodgy.

Is there a way? Would like to use a foreign sim when on holiday

The little phone repair shops should be able to do it. Usually run by an oriental guy. Most shopping areas in Dublin have them, sometimes several on the same road

Tried that and they where having none of it :pac: which was to expected tbh, i'd say they hear that story all the time!

I'll try one of the unlock shops so

I've used cellunlocker.net several times successfully myself if that helps any

Are listings on eBay for unlocking like this a load of cobblers then?

Can anyone else only view youtube videos in low resolution? The odd video is 1440p. As in on channels I KNOW 100% are 1440p 60fps like Matthew santoro

Just now I can can only view pewdiepies videos in 480p.

Before I sold my s6, I opened the same videos on the same wifi network and my s6 could view the highest resolution whereas the sun couldn't.

Like when u go to choose a resolution, there just isn't any above 480p

I'm considering selling my s7 because of this crap as I basically paid for a downgrade from my s6 (better battery is bull**** for anyone thinking of upgrading)
