5W30: can you cross check all mk1's in 03 from Carlow with a 7 finale?
Im using a different software and I think I'm seeing 03-CW-25xx?

OP has said that he checked back through the footage and there's no other glimpse of that car.

Can I just say that I love Boards for this stuff, and fair play to everyone who's helping out here.

And remind me never to get on the wrong side of any of you, or I'll be hunted down... :)

    like 3757 or something.

I saw last two digits as 57 when I was doing a frame by frame but I didn't want to say it just in case my eyes are playing tricks -

Edit to add: On Impact just as the car goes away from the OP's the light hits the side of the car - it looks more like a deep blue colour or sort of metallic blue than grey but only for a few seconds.

With a chrome strip on the passenger door frame.

Which would presume it's the Elegance model I believe?

no. it's just a distasteful aftermarket add on.

If anyone is getting lists from the motortax site maybe cross check on a newer year and compare with beepbeep.ie stats. I'm finding the low numbers of cars coming back a bit hard to believe.

I think this might be a possibility...

OP if that is the best your camera is able to show even with uploading elsewhere then after this experience I recommend you buy a better quality camera.
Is anyone able to post frame by frame after the impact and brighten up the pics? there is a split second when the car passes under street lighting which illuminates everything.

Let this be a lesson to anyone who thinks they can pull a hit and run on someone from Boards. We will find you :D

Don't know if this muddies the water further:

    Reg: 03****

    Colour: Silver
    Make:

Everyone agrees it's an Octavia but that was one I found with the numbers I could half make out through motorcheck -

    Edit wrong make removed Reg.

I had seen that reg during my checks that it was Superb but it's not a Superb. NCTd until next May as well

This is NCTd until next July also. So I'm skeptical it is that one.

I did a frame by frame in AfterEffects and even increasing brightness and contrast and reducing the motion blur I can't make out anything at all. I'm just going by what others have posted.

OP did you go back over earlier footage, even 2/3 minutes before stopping at the lights?

What has expired/not expired NCT got to do with anything?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,897 ✭✭✭✭bear1

OP I've looked at your video again, the Skoda is exactly to your right when you were stopped at the lights. Post up as much of the video as you can even on Youtube so we can take a look.

Not much but it could be one reason why the car failed to stop. If a car didn't stop, and the reg showed no NCT then I'd more likely think it's that one than one which had a valid NCT.
    Just my opinion though.

Yea, I don't really buy that. The person didn't stop because it's just the kind of person they are. Not because they had no NCT.

Mods, maybe you could go back and remove reg numbers from posts? If you google any of these plates, this thread comes up and it's not fair on unaware innocent owners.

Nearly had a heart attack when I saw this 2003 Octavia with nearside damage:

    https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/skoda-octavia-1-4-petrol-2003-88000-miles-nct/10889401

It's been online for 3 weeks though. :D

this thread is very entertaining! well done all! - good point made with removing the reg plates above so as to not draw attention to innocent drivers!

OP what have the police said? I don't think you mentioned you talked to them yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 349 ✭✭deathtocaptcha

was that a frantic flashing of the lights we seen there from OP at the end?

surely the authorities could identify the car from cameras around there... get on to the Gardai...

It is fairly dark in the video and the road ahead of doesn't appear to be lit, where you driving with only your side lights on?

Also while he crossed over, you hit him. hence the damage to your front. he mightn't have even known there was contact.

Them 03 CW cars must have some shock absorbers not to have felt that. Better than the Inertial Dampeners on the starship Enterprise !!!!!

I think that car is blue for sure.

If you look at OP's headlights just as he hits you can see its a dark colour.

Also the blue paint on the bumper OP posted, looks to me like

Ted, look at the first video. The OP clearly has their lights on.

They are dipped beams for sure.

Side lights wouldn't light up anything at all. It might be hard to believe for xenon drivers but halogen bulbs (at least standard ones) are usually rubbish.
