You can get diesel in the S60, D3 and D4 and a I imagine they will do the B4 hybrid soon or are they stopping all diesel?

No diesel options in the S60. The V60 has diesel options but that was launched before Volvo said it was phasing out diesel production with new models going forward. The S60 was launched after that.

Sorry you are correct. I was sure the new hybrid diesel was coming to the S60 but it doesn’t seem so, that’s a pity as I would have thought that engine would suit it.

M340i Touring, lovely looking car....much nicer than the saloon. I wouldn't be brave enough to go with that colour, though it's certainly "individual". Thoughts on the colour?

That colour is like something you'd see on a Lambo outside Harrods in London :pac:

Watched that video yesterday evening. That "individual" colour is a GB£4K optional extra too.

Nice colour on the right car but I wouldn’t pay 4 grand plus for it and I don’t think a BMW estate is the right car for it.
I was in the one that’s for sale in Tipperary last weekend It’s oxide grey which I think is a cheaper special option colour and it looks really well.
Have to smile when I hear Joe Achilles talk about the huge discounts available and how everyone is in pcp deals that make running one of these affordable. He should visit Ireland and check out our list prices and discounts....

I'm sure Joe gets well looked after too by them. He gets his review BMWs from the same dealer all the time, perks of the job I guess.

Wasn’t thinking properly about the S60 rivals, there was one take where I called it the Volkswagen S60.

Compared to the 330i, the BMW felt more able for it if that makes sense but for the money involved (less for the Volvo) it had much better spec. Adaptive cruise for stop / start traffic and blind spot etc and the seating position in the Volvo was nice the way the centre tunnel sits higher, it felt coupe like really.

The BMW is the one that everyone knows and respects though.

I think that’s a fantastic colour, great to see something like this in a sea of poxy grey, white and black. I’ve a grey car (not by choice) and I’d love something a bit brighter.

BMW are the same with the folding seats. An optional extra and not a cheap one either.

Standard on all new 3 series now.

Harrod’s is Qatar country so you mean flat light blue! They line up behind one another (Zondas, Lambos, Koenigseggs) to obscure the double yellows.

That's exactly it, the S60 is diesel free, they said it would be the first car not to have a diesel and the fuel was being phased out, however since the S60 came out they have facelifted the XC90, and that still has a diesel option (but confusingly, the petrol and diesel models are now badged B4 or B5 etc depending on power output - the 'B' is meant to signal mild hybrid apparently) and I think some of the other cars that are being facelifted in the coming months will continue to be available with a diesel option albeit as a mild hybrid.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,837 ✭✭✭carsfan2

the next model xc90 will have no diesel apparently and they are classing the new diesels as mild hybrids which sounds better. I have driven the new xc90 B5 and couldn't detect any hybrid element. The sales man said it feels no different to him either except it takes off a bit better and has same fuel economy.

Great colour. I had a Richard Longman Cooper S years ago in a very similar color.

Always wonder why there are so few cars with colour instead of just grey, black, silver....etc

They go in and out of fashion very very quickly.
Not that you could possibly lose any more on a big petrol BMW than you do already but pay 4k for that green paint job and you are never seeing a penny of it again.
For what it's worth I think it's lovely and I'd buy it as a used car probably, but would have to see it in the flesh first

    Gorgeous looking car.
I saw Bob Flavin and Sinead McCann reviews of this. For some reason Bob spent ages giving out about lack of touch screen and less about the drive.
If he did his research he would know that Audi have since updated the infotainment and introduced a touchscreen.
    I hope you’re enjoying it.

Just reading a review on it,
"over 700 kilometres of mixed (quite quick) driving, we averaged 8.8 litres/100km, which is about a litre less per 100km than we'd expect of a diesel SUV of this size."

I'm averaging about 7.2 in the D5 in quite quick mixed driving.
The reviewer and sales man have something in common, neither own a diesel one.

That's very good to be fair.
I rarely see that unless I'm on a spin encompassing mainly 80km/h zones that are free flowing.
Long term average in the Sorento is 7.5l/100km over 50,000kms.

The Volvo is a larger bus and quite likely quicker than the Sorento also, not to mention the obvious class difference.

That's the essence of the mild hybrids.
I had a c class mild bybrid for 4 days recently, similar to the Volvo quite likely, the hybrid bit just assists the engine and captures energy that'd otherwise be lost while braking.
There's meant to be improved efficiency though of course.

That kind of shape is my "second most hated automotive fad" right after the SUV sh1t3:D. What the heck is the point of taking a 2-door coupe' and adding the rear doors...all you get is a 4 door saloon with a squished look and no boot.

I understand the whole industry seems to be currently intent on desperately trying to make cars that look like the offspring of a Pontiac Aztek and an AMC Pacer, but come on...

It's sadly what the general public look for in cars nowadays - not handling, character, performance - the "driving experience", in short, but if it's an iPad on wheels or not and that it has a "badge". Most reviewers reflect this

Bob seems to sh1te on about almost anything but the actual car half the time.

I don’t agree re. The Audi A/S 5. It is more of a hatchback A4 than a four door coupe like a Merc cls for example.
I don’t think it compromises space much either and is probably more practical than A4 as it’s a hatchback.
I do get your point though about these 4 door wannabe coupes.

Having owned an A5 sportback I'd say it was remarkably practical and in s line with the black pack as striking a car as you will see for sensible ish money

Ya I have a 4 series and I need to have a hatch, so it works for me. A 3 or a 5 wouldn't be practical and I don't want an estate.

I see the 1 and 3 Series engine range are getting some revisions. 120d added and mild hybrid tech added to the 320d. 1.5 litre 3 cylinder engine in the 318i being ditched in favour of a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder producing 156bhp. X5, X6 and X7 get more leather interior combos than before too. Soft close doors are now standard on the 7 and 8 Series.

Mines a mix of school runs, back roads, nice bit of motorway, if it wasn't for the first half hour and the last every day I'd have it way lower, the short trips kill it, reckon I'll knock about 1000km out of the current tank of diesel which is about €100.
Haven't been driving it in a while but the Mrs has robbed my GTI the size of the Volvo has got to her, she's loving how easy the golf is to move kids and park, I averaged 8.1l/100km over 25k in that which is good considering it's a turbo petrol and was driven with enthusiasm.

This mild hybrid tech will be introduced across the board in all cars in time I guess if it reduces emissions. Surprised they are going back to the two litre in the 318i.
Those doors on the 7/8 series must be very heavy.
Thank god BMW have made this standard!
