A white 2019 X5 passed me today followed by a grey Q7. The X5 definitely looks better and has more road presence in person. I thought the Audi looked very bland, but I find that with most Audis anyway.

Yeah I’d agree the current q7 isn’t a looker imo

Q7 no looker alright but is extremely comfortable when you’re inside and the middle and third row are superior to the x5.
In this type of car none of them are fabulous looking to be fair.
I am thinking more of going used than new now if possible as to avoid initial first year depreciation.

I'd say the Q7 was probably intentionally styled that way to facilitate the introduction of the Q8 but all of these large SUVs are designed for functionality/practicality over style.

    Potential first world problem..
Been offered really good trade in on ordering a new X5. was set on XC90 in a 2019 model but not getting as good a value in these options making brand new more attractive as wife would keep for a few years. XC90 is the new model but the shape itself is now 5 years old as against the BMW just over a year out.

There is a 5.5k jump between standard x line car and m sport. Purely cosmetic differences really but bigger 20" wheels with run flats against 19" with a mobility kit and blue m sport brakes versus regular brakes.
dealer says over four years the m sport would achieve about 3 k more come resale so you lose 2.5k more for the m sport car. I am sceptical of spending more though. Dealer showed me on the BMW ordering system how the m sport is outselling the regular model 3 to 1.
    Thoughts please?

Volvo is lovely. BMW is cooler.

Surprised that the Volvo isn’t cheaper - I’d go with the X5 X Line and get a few options that you really like

I'd go with the interior and ride luxuries over the msport all day.

Did you price the Volvo in other garages besides where I think you went.
Booked into cork for the recall, asked for a courtesy car, no problem having one whatsoever.

Between the BMW and Volvo, the Volvo has the faultless safety record. There's a comforting grip from the seatbelts when you become airborne.
It's hard to look past these stats https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/volvo/xc90/103233/no-fatalities-ever-recorded-in-a-volvo-xc90-in-the-uk
Looks wise I don't think it's aged in the slightest since new.

The BMW drives much better than Volvo. The 3.0 engine is a peach and the ride is superior as it has full air suspension. Volvo is very nice too however...
I priced in a few garages and the offers on my own were all within a couple of grand except for the offer on the x5 from one garage which was 6k better than two rival BMW dealers.
I priced two Volvo garages and was surprised They weren’t better value but the new model B5 is in short supply.the volvos have more toys but wife is not into what she considers more stuff to go wrong.

Can you PM which garage had the 6k better deal, that is a huge difference in fairness. I’d love to see what they would do with the M340i as all garages I spoke to so far would do about 5k of list price.

Have you considered the X45e, I would think these would be fantastic value in 6months time from the UK as the vrt will be so cheap on them.

Yeah my choice would be the 45e but it is five seat only and one of the criteria is seven seats

Just wanted to say to those of you who have watched any of the vids I’ve put in this thread, it’s much appreciated. Passed this milestone the other day!

Well done Mark...just looking through the view counts to see is the Golf R is still the most popular....I nearly fell out of the bed when I noticed which ones the current champ. Maybe shows the power of head to heads in the title.

The model 3 one must have a funny titler or something that it's not being indexd as the view count is oddly low.

You’re at the mercy of whatever YouTube what to do with your vid I find in terms of pushing it but yeah I can’t work out the success of the CR-V myself ha!

Yea they are great videos & I've directed my non boardsie mates towards it too. Out of curiousity & you don't have to answer, at the 1m+ level, does it start at least paying for the time & effort that goes into them? One of my Video/Sound production mates mentioned that that channel would take a ridiculous amount of time editing. (I know nothing about these things)

Well done MarkN. Of the Irish car Vloggers I definitely enjoy yours the best and find them most informative (Sorry Bob F:)

Helps that you are a genuine petrol head like the rest of us who wasn't born with a silver spoon in your mouth.

Thanks lads. I’d love them to be a bit slicker again but there’s limits when you’ve no camera person with you.

In terms of YouTube payment it’s small money compared to the time spent filming and especially editing. I could easily spend 12 hours on a video across a few afternoons or late at night. There’s quicker ways of doing them but I don’t like videos that don’t show you the bits of the car as the presenter is talking about them and that’s the bit that is the truly hard work.

I love getting to see the latest tech in cars and driving something different every week so overall it’s good fun.

Well done on the reviews Mark.
They are informative and entertaining and your enthusiasm really comes across.
You and the cars Ireland reviewer are the two best of the Irish in my view. It is great to get an Irish perspective on the cars as opposed to the uk.

Cheers. Yes Sinead is great and at I a lot longer than me to be fair, nice to see a woman doing it well too as it’s a very male skewed area.

The improvements in the overall editing and production are obvious over the course of the past year. It's very slick and professional now without becoming gimmicky or contrived.

What percentage of your views are from outside Ireland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,534 ✭✭✭MarkN

About 25% of it is UK, America is big, Australia, Germany and Ireland obviously. Each video depends though, the Golf R did well in the U.K. as they love the R.

Audi RS5 coming next week, can’t wait.

I watched and enjoyed that Mark.
Actually sat into an identical car in Volvo dealer recently and was very impressed.
I would however consider the s60 a 3 series, A4, c class competitor not 5 series or A6. Volvo have the s/v 90 for that sector.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,446 ✭✭✭Wailin

BMW are the same with the folding seats. An optional extra and not a cheap one either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,611 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The new S60 is a good looking car especially in that red. As said though they are a 3 Series, A4 or C Class rival. The only complaint I have is that the Volvo infotainment system is not the easiest navigate around when on the move. The rarity of them is appealing and the T5 is a good alternative to the 330i performance wise.

Interesting review here of the T8 versus the 330e PHEVs:

The lack of a diesel engine in the s60 will have a huge negative impact on sales regardless of the anti diesel sentiment out there. The models that are available seem pretty expensive too unfortunately.
Definitely a better looking car than the opposition though not as nice to drive apparently.
Which would you have Mark s60 t5 or 330i seeing as though you’ve driven both?

You can get diesel in the S60, D3 and D4 and a I imagine they will do the B4 hybrid soon or are they stopping all diesel?

I’m pretty sure Volvo have said no diesel in the new s60 only petrol and hybrid unlike the v60 where diesel is available.
