Up to 50k, less of going to the U.K. Doesn’t have to be BMW but my tolerance of brands and models is not high. I wish it wasn’t the case! I’m in a BMW since 2007 and have had 10 of them but I’ve also had an Audi A3 and S3, Merc E-Class, Alfa GTV, 3 Golf GTIs, a Ford Focus and a Fiesta.

There’s a 530e in Waterford in space grey that’s nice, the 530i I looked at is sold. I really do like those Kodiaqs in Scout trim but yeah, I know.

    A Golf R is something I like.

I’m not against a 520d but I’d prefer a bigger engine BMW or at least more power.

I’d go for a 640D GC in a heartbeat just a bit fresher although depreciation in them being approx €10,000 even used is a concern.

Apologies, don't know why I thought the budget was up to 80/90k.

Pity as I know of a 640d GC in frozen bronze coming up soon. Google the colour..

I know i'm a 7 whore, but just seems like the logical progression considering what you've had and the direction you're heading with more doors, comfort, toys etc.

    €50,000 on the nose imported.

I'm waiting until the petrols drop more before very likely going this route myself. The petrols were all launched later and as such are still a fair bit more than the diesels.
Many of the launch 730ds are loaded to the gills.

That SQ5 looks the business, the interior is a bit meh though.

If you venture into the F 750s, beware of the huge problems the N63 had, BMW had a "care package" for that engine (a recall in all but name), replacing all coils, turbos, injectors, mafs, battery, CCV hoses, you name it. I'd only look at 2014+ and with full warranty.

I think the 7 series is overkill...just too big. 5 series better all rounder for small family. Natural progression would be a 640d gc or a g30 if staying with BMW. 530i would be ideal I think and since you have the cash now a trip to the UK is a must. No 530i's over here! Would not go near the 530e over a 530i. I heard electric range is very poor plus boot 100 litres smaller due to battery located at rear.

A 7er while a really nice car will suffer even more annual depreciation than a 5er or 6er if that's a concern.

    Yeah, I do like them but I'm only 36, there's time :P

If you are buying a UK car, I would recommend getting Revolut. I have bought two cars in the last year in the UK using it. Transfers were in the sellers account on the same day and the rate they do on exchange is unbeatable.

£30k would cost me €33,927 right now.

You did well to sell your 640 so quick. Less than 2 weeks up for sale?
i presume you did well price wise.
For sure you will do much better price wise in the UK or NI now.
I was actually going to suggest an SQ5 or would you consider a Porsche Macan?
A 2/3 year old would be a great buy and not lose much in comparison to a more common BMW.
That said I think you will end up in a G30 of some description.

Less than two weeks. First guy that came to view bought it, he went and had a look at others during the viewing two weekends ago as I wasn’t budging much on the price. He has just sold an Aston Martin and wanted something nice but easier to live with. The Porsche I hadn’t thought of but the Panamera did cross my mind a few times. They’re still quite rich though!

I may do bangernonics until Jan 19, I’ll see what comes up. 4 door MKV GTIs are going for nothing!

It's pretty hard to find a 3 Series with electric seats. The base spec on them is pretty low.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,398 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

Manual seats wouldn't bother me. Great spec otherwise.

Have you sat in the back of a G30? Pretty abysmal space for an adult for a car of its caliber and segment. Fine for kids as you say, but far from luxurious back there.

Manual seats is a no-no for me, if my 15 year old E46 can have electric seats then for sure I expect a new one to have it, especially at that end of the range.

Memory seats are one of those things you'd never realise were useful until you have them, sometimes my parents drive my car and it's fantastic that we can all have our own seat and mirror settings.

Lovely car apart from that, though - it's got a straight six engine as well, so that's a big selling point (for me at least)! I love that blue in the F30s as well.

I did, same size as f10 i believe, more or less. Sufficient room.

Don't get me wrong on the 7 series. Pure class and luxury. But like the Audi A8 and merc S class I think they are just too 'exec and luxurious" for everyday use, trips to the shop, multi storey parking, school runs etc.

S3 or RS3 would have a better built interior than the golf. Pity none for sale. Can see where Bazman is coming from 2020 golf r hybrid and new S3 will have plenty of power and a lot easier live with kids. 3 isofix is a nice bonus on the Audi.
Think your making the right choice to wait and see what's coming in 2019 or beyond. Nothing wrong with a pocket rocket while your waiting.

Sold quick mark. Thought it would be harder to shift to be honest.

Can't imagine going from a 6 series to a Golf or S3, regardless of the power, features etc they are tiny cars in comparison.

After your 6 series, the 3 will feel downmarket. They’re built to a different standard of quality to 5/6/7 as a lower price point and I wouldn’t go ther if I was you.
Do you think it’s more likely you will leave it until 2019? Would that not mean more hassle buying and selling whatever runabout you get in the meantime?
That said who knows what direction sterling will go in the next few months?

    I know i'm a 7 whore,
    Ditto!

I think the OP needs to drive a G11 7 series. 7 series are a different class. I'm in 2007 E65 and test drove my BIL 2014 525D and it was a nice car but I found myself silently thinking "it's not a 7, doesn't come close"

Sure, you do have to find bigger parking bays and walk from the far corner of the car park to avoid the dings (I would do this anyway) but if you appreciate well built luxury cars and with 50K budget it has to be the route.

740e with a sunroof and comfort seats please (a lot seem not to have sunroof).
