Was over with herselfs car for service and they had gotten this into stock.

I know it is above the budget, but it looks amazing in the metal.

Nice but colour and lack of sun protection glass would put me off.

If it had the glass and was black it'd be 100% perfect IMO.

Is That frozen bronze a Matt paint?
Bit of an acquired taste I’d say. Wouldn’t be mad about it from the pictures anyway.
I think Mark has moved on from 6 series gc but who knows?
    Not even him I’d guess!

Yeah I agree, that colour is definitely an acquired taste! Probably looks better in the flesh.

Yes Frozen Bronze. It looks well in the metal to be fair.

Maybe it's just me but I'd have a 6 series gran coupe over a G30....

The irony is that that interior is more cohesive and better looking than even the new 7, let alone the 5. IMO of course.

The last 6 series I sat in was a 2013 and that didn't look to fresh. I know they updated a bit after that but still current 5 looks miles ahead imo.

I haven't compared them spec wise but if you can land a 181 for 57k from UK and a 171 wants over 70k from an Irish dealer then we as a car buying public are mugs.
I'd well believe it too I saw savings of approx half that on a 35k car here compared to 27k in UK

There's obviously enough buying them to keep these dealerships open. It's nuts.
Access to finance deals the only thing keeping it afloat IMO.

BMW dealers need to cop the absolute f**k on. As nice as that 6 is, the price of it.

M&G have a Facebook post of a 5 year old SE 520d with 70,000kms on it and they’re asking €24,000 for it. A 2017 G30 M-Sport with 6,000 Miles is 13/14k more (from a BMW dealer in the U.K.). 4 years newer, new model, way less mileage, much fresher car and more desirable spec.

Are the BMW dealers in particular just making the numbers up??!

As far as I can see, BMW Ireland are hard to deal with. I don't want to tell stories but I would hate to be trying to meet the expectations they set.

Still in business though aren't they? Must be doing well on company cars or something. I just couldn't stomach being tied into them if I bought something relatively new and was back to trade in.
Luckily I'm happy to stay back the years and stay away.

Nearly half the price a new one is.
    Lunacy.

I presume you mean targets etc imposed on the dealers? I have heard Bmw Ireland are very controlling and that dealers can’t hardly sneeze nowadays without their ok.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the high asking prices of used stock here was down to Bmw Ireland trying to maintain control of values. If the main dealers here were to ask similar to import prices, the whole pcp minimum value of stuff already sold gets whacked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,917 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

But its not as if they are allowing inflated prices on trade ins to keep the pcp wagon rolling. They are well able to offer trade in prices on a par with UK prices. The retail pricing is pure greed imo.
For them to be able to happily turn 10k profit on a 45k car is just sick.
Finance is the issue stopping everyone just going across the water. No wonder then that importers are springing up everywhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,398 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

But people are buying them, otherwise they would have to adjust their prices. Can't blame them really, they are there to make money.

You could wait a year or two for one of these to depreciate.
    No legroom issues here.

A family member had a few A8's and he reckona they are far superior to a 7. The first A8 actually replaced a 7. He drove the new A8 this week and reckons it is simply the mutts nuts.

Ive seen M760s in high sixties already (sterling). What a fabulous way to lose money!

These could be a future classic, BMW haven't bothered re-engineering the car to be compliant for the new WLTP fuel economy tests (they've stopped selling all petrol 7 series actually in Europe except for the 740e/Le).

So, it could well be the last ever V12 7 series we'll see, maybe they'll bring it back as the 7er is due its LCI fairly soon.

I've heard very good things about the A8 as well, although the BMW head in me would still want a 7er any day (I probably would go for an S-class if I did have the money for such opulence, though, everyone always talks about what a wonderful car they are).

As for the G30, the 530i is only a four cylinder, I wouldn't be bothered with that at all. The only reason to buy a four cylinder is because of fuel economy, in which case you should get a diesel and be done with it (the 520d is very lively as well for what it is). If you're buying a petrol you're not too bothered by fuel economy, so get a straight six instead, they've got such character, they're such a joy to work hard (and makes such a great noise when revved) but so silky smooth and refined when you're not in a hurry. The 540i has a straight six so that would be worth considering although I wish they'd do it with just rear wheel drive rather than xDrive only. Compared to the 530i the 530d has more power, a lot more torque, more mpg, less CO2 and car tax - and most importantly of all, six cylinders. I'm not a big fan of diesels but I'd have the 530d over the 530i all day long.

Holy crap you're right, I had no idea the petrols we're all but gone. No more 750s, mental! That's definitely going to hit residuals, bummer for folks like us who pick them up second hand.

hi lads - appreciate 5 mins of your time if you have it…

So I'm currently driving a 2004 325ci, it owes me very little, has an NCT, is nicely specced and it'll see me through to 2016 thanks very much. I can keep it until it dies, if I like…

But, I've enjoyed some nice cars over the years, F10 5 series, E92 M3, MKII S3, 335i, MKIV/V GTIs, 630i to name some of the flasher ones… it's been fun (and expensive) :D
    a nice :pac:

Just read the original post. Holy crap theres nice cars you've had the pleasure of owning. What were your favourites? I'm in the market for something nice and have narrowed it down to a few of the cars you've listed, interesting to hear from someone that's owned them all

I'd say it will only be a temporary thing, a bit like the M2 and M3, it probably wasn't worth the cost of re-engineering for only a few months worth of sales.

They've also stopped selling the M550i (although that was left hand drive only) so there's no more V8 5 series unless you buy the ///M5.

I don't know about the V12s but I'd fully expect the other petrols to be back on sale once the LCI is introduced.

They won't be offering rear wheel drive on the bigger engines after LCI, all the bigger engines are going to be xDrive only from now on, the 740i will probably still be rear wheel drive (the 840i will be rear wheel drive only) but I doubt they'll do a rear wheel drive 750i, the precedent has already been set with the M550i and the M850i.

Incidentally all these big engined petrol BMWs are still on sale in places like the US where the cars do not have to be compliant with the WLTP, for the first time ever the EU than the US for emissions standards now that they've adopted WLTP.

M3 and second to 640d. That said, Golf GTI ownership was always fun and the F10 520d served me well too. But yeah, M3 would be the most fondly remembered.

would another M3 not be a good choice

BMW launched the new 5 Series back in early 2017 with a GFV of over 50%. To be precise the retail price was €52945 OTR, it was with a APR of 7.9% and the GFV after 3 years was 50.5% - I remember thinking it was absolutely bonkers and those chickens are now coming home to roost.

Expecting almost €27,000 for a 3 year old car is nuts! Sure there would be zero equity left in the deal. No wonder E Class is outselling 5 Series this year.
