Also cream coloured leather is a big no no for me in the future..both of the little gurriers take great enjoyment in kicking the back of my seat and they're filthy dirty.

Quick baby wipe sorts that or leather cleaner obviously!

It's not advised to use baby wipes on leather. I think Curran mentioned that in the detailing forum before.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,917 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

I wouldn't be overly worried to be honest as long as the leather would get the odd bit of care.

The likes of Lidl/Aldi sell leather wipes that are no more expensive than baby wipes. I use Meguires leather cleaner about once a month since I got a car with light coloured leather.

It’s just the seat backs that I use them on, the material there probably isn’t even genuine leather. I’d use a proper leather cleaner and conditioner on the seats in general a few times a year anyway.

Drove the new model A7 today. I can’t afford one but a lovely car. 286bhp diesel with toys specced up to €92,000. Huge levels of autonomy.

    Little video https://youtu.be/_joI_AfldDo

Have you thought about an X5 or X6 Mark? I was driving the new X6 over the weekend and I must say it is a brilliant machine. I only ask as its owner came from a series of A8's and reckons it will be another X6 next time.

X5 has always intrigued me alright, I think handling wise it wouldn’t be what I’m used to but they sure feel special based on the few times I’ve driven one. X6 always reminds me of something out of Transformers! :)

I was very surprised at how chuckable the X6 was when I first drove it. Then again I drive a Volvo day to day. An oil tanker would be better in the twisties!:o

We had an S40 way back. I loved the car actually, those seats are just amazing. It was spectacularly unreliable, makes my E46 seem like a poster boy for trouble free motoring but for the five days of the year it worked it was a really nice car!

BMW seats aren't a patch on the ones fitted to a Volvo really and I hate the way they still doesn't fit lumbar support as standard - it's such an essential thing to have if you do long distance journeys. If I were in power it would be compulsory for manufacturers to fit lumbar support for the driver as standard!

I don't know about xx or any high vehicle really. There is no hiding the weight and the height of the vehicle. Had a quick spin in an m50d X5 awhile back. Absolutely mad but still felt floaty from being high and heavy.

Indeed....had an x5 35i or whatever they are called in the US for a week. Very uncar like.

Ya just don't like the way they behave in general. Everyone says to me why don't you buy a 'jeep'?

Not a hope. I will stick with cars til I can no longer get into one.

In saying that I think I'm going to get a Kia Sorento :o

I know it came up chatting about Morrisons but the more I look at it, should Mark be considering an S3 Sportsback for pratacility with 2 kids, it's got more get up and go than the 100k A7 at half the price.
Not many cars as versatile with 3 isofix.

Sat in the S5 Sportback that Audi South have yesterday, is was a nice bus but €83,000! My older somewhat wiser head just says anything about €50K is crazy and even then, 50 is probably crazy too but I’d try make peace with myself for the right car. I think back to prices I’ve paid for cars in my 20s and I shudder. I don’t regret them but they were huge chunks of money to be lumping out every month.

I do like the new A5 sportback I must say.

Thats why I was thinking the S3 Sportsback could be the sweet spot it's right at the top of the budget, now it's either a very popular car or a very unpopular one as there's none for sale after 2015, It could mean rock solid reslale values especially if pcp'n as it might cover the deposit for the next one.
Surprised there'e not even one for sale in the country. Is it too mature a car and people are just buying Golf R' s instead of it. (Or 520d's)

I think the S3 saloon looks the business. I prefer it to the hatchback.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,101 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Not a fan of the saloon at all, don't think it's sport looking, just looks like little Audi.

S3 stand out a bit with this combination, spending the extra €450 on the red calipers sets it off..paint and alloys another 4.5k though:(

I think it’d be a bit of a culture change from being used to bigger cars to be in an S3. S5 SB at right money yes.

I drove a new 2.0 tdi sport back recently and was very surprised how poorly it drove for the money. It was 55k for s line and just did not feel worth the money. Quality product inside and out but disappointed with ride and handling.
That said s5 probably a different animal. There actually is a 181 s5 driving around limerick on “N” plates. Would love to know what the insurance premium is for that?!
I’d still say hold out till next year for a g30 530d/i/e

I parked next to it in city centre car park in limerick and had a good nose around it. Pretty sure it’s the real deal. It has aftermarket alloys on it 20” I think but the interior checked out. Lovely car.

Drove this today. Waiting on figures. Has adaptive suspension and a few other bits, no HK though oddly.

I spent a few days in a G30 520d recently Mark and it had no HK either. Absolutely shocking quality audio from the speakers tbh - it was akin to listening to music from your phone's speaker! Really poor for a car at that level.

So... I think HK is an absolute must.

Only one of our fleet has HK. Standard stereo is rubbish across the range.
