looked at m240i in the configurator. When you add the pro pack it pushes it into a higher vrt bracket and adds 9k to the price. It’s like a bad joke.

Really like that m240i. The proportions and shape look so good, it'll be a real eye-catcher if you ever see one on Irish roads! Far better looking than its bigger siblings.

I had a look on the configurator too... starts at 75k but tick a couple of boxes and you're up to 90k. For what is effectively a 2-seater toy (those rear seats don't look too useful), thats a lot of dough.

Even the 220i with a few options ticked is 60k....

I'd say it would be sicking to know how little it would cost you to own one of those in the UK compared to here.

I assume the most popular bmw for €90k is an x5.

It’s easy to say “if I had €90k to spend on a car i’d buy xxx instead”, but it’s reeeeally hard to think of a reason why anyone with that money to spend on a car would buy the m240i

I was going to order a M240i with a few options ticked but then I seen a proper 4x4 Dacia. I know which one I am going to buy. Dacia everytime.

you can get x line x5 45e for about 85k, bit more for m sport which would be a terrific all rounder.

I also think a big standard i4 m50 for 78k may be a good buy.

I know people will say that these are outrageous amounts of money to spend on a car but relative to the competition and what you get it’s not bad. The low vrt here is what makes them work as opposed to it killing the likes on the m240i and other powerful combustion cars.

the profile of buyer of expensive new sports cars in Ireland are almost exclusively not petrolheads (we buy their cars 2nd hand!), they’re usually ‘wealthy folks with money to spend on a sports car’.

I’ve been referring to it as the ‘taycan effect’ for sports cars from incumbent car manufacturers - whereby you can expect zero 911’s to be sold new in Ireland while the taycan exists, however there have been over 100 taycans sold, and they’ll be in the 2nd hand market in the future, versus the 3 or 4 911’s sold new here over the past decade (you get the idea).

the i4 m50 is BMW’s taycan - my guess is that their accountants are delighted with that situation.

Just found my new lottery winner daily driver car.

I would have the turismo version but don't think I will go for red though.

Wouldn't be a fan of the interior - too much touchscreen especially on the centre console. Maybe it's the angle of the picture but that shelf-like thing sticking out looks a bit weird too.

Is this the same 4 series that was up a couple of weeks ago?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,446 ✭✭✭Wailin

Hardly traded in so soon? This would be a great buy in 2 or 3 yrs when it's done the heavy depreciation. Around 40-45k. Starting to really like the design now after seeing a few about.

It's not, the one a couple of weeks ago had black alloys. I rather the look of this one

New 4 series Gran Coupe in Ireland. I am still not sure if the old model isn't better looking.

    This one is 69K!

Yes I prefer the cerium grey over black with the Tanzanite blue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,593 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

69k is crazy money for that but a sign of the times as to where we are. I remember a time when 69k got you a well speced 6 cylinder diesel 4 Series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,814 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Yeah. It’s madness really. it makes the i4 m50 at 78k look like a value proposition.

I posted a x5 M model on another thread that is way over 200k apparently.

Maybe as Joe Achilles says it’s all about the monthlies not the headline price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,917 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

thats the reality, anyone that wants a 4 series that isnt buying the i4 or the m50 if they want something super fast needs their head examined!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,282 ✭✭✭digiman

The monthlies on a 230k car over 3 years would be frightening given BMW GMFV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,127 ✭✭✭sk8board

I know the 430d gc in full spec was €65k when I bought my 420d gc. €8k more solely for the engine upgrade with identical spec’s. a bit too much for me just to have 1.5s faster to 100kmph.

tesla model3 buyers are having a fit on the other thread about 0.5s difference. They’ve being robbed by Lord E apparently.

I've owned various 20d and 30d BMWs for the last number of years and there a bit more to them than the official 0 to 60 for me. The 30d are a lot more smoother and refined, they just sound less agricultural by diesel standards. In saying that I wouldn't pay 8k extra for one but then again I don't buy brand new. The value in them over the 20d is when they are a few years old and only command a small premium. Running costs between both is minimal in my experience.

Really impressive interior but sweet jesus this has to be a pisstake on exterior design....horrendous.

Thankfully I will never have a need, desire or the money to own that thing.

BMW IX - King of the electric SUV? - YouTube

Bob Flavin was very impressed on the Irish launch. It looks better in black.

I don't think we will see many on the road here though, more because of the crazy high price than the styling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,832 ✭✭✭maddness

This is the biggest issue with the majority of electric cars, they are pretty much all hideous.

why do they all have to be SUV’s? I see people raving about how great the new Kia and Hyundai ones are and I honestly can’t understand, they are as bad to look at as the horrific BMW linked above.

A couple of weeks ago in the multi story car park of a shopping centre in Galway some dude had one of those iX's. I was at the drivers window talking to him for a second or two and the screens looked amazing. Very high resolution and clarity.

Here is another example of crazy Irish car prices. A used Porsche Macan with a golf GTI engine is 114k!

    Used 2021 (212) Porsche Macan 2.0 PDK 265PS in Dublin (carzone.ie)

You can get a brand new, more powerful and more desirable Taycan for less...

Not a fan of the looks of the 1 Series but I think the red works well on this 128ti and that big fugly grill is less in your face when black. I could see myself owning one of these but not at the 55k asking price.

My mate sold his m340i to Beshoffs today. It’ll be interesting to see what it goes up for. Serious motor!

It’s a beautiful car. Probably the only one with such a spec in Ireland.

Did he get what he wanted for it Joe?
