Didn’t get into numbers with him but he’s very happy, except maybe with a touch of sellers remorse! He said he didn’t try that hard, only tried Beshoffs and one other place. Beshoffs were initially cold on it but then called him back this week and were much more eager for it. He said they were a pleasure to deal with. Painless, hassle free.

I would be guessing 70k plus Joe but who knows in the current market.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,127 ✭✭✭sk8board

Sounds like they might’ve found a buyer already.

re the iX price, it’s about the same as the x5 (€90-100k range) and I’d say they’ll sell loads of them in the mean ‘burbs of Dublin!

Yeah I'd definitely reckon they got a buyer before deciding to take it. 70k+ would be my guess too. Was it a touring Joe? Be the perfect car for me if so!

Have to say the looks are growing on me and that red is pretty nice.

I’ve always thought the one series is a better looking car in the metal than pictures. I have seen a couple of 128ti on the road and they look very well. when they were being introduced here the intention was to undercut the golf gti and have it priced low 40’s but changes to vrt ruined it and at 55k it’s too much money in my opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,127 ✭✭✭sk8board

I’ve been looking to go back into a hot hatch, and was watching the 128ti. It’s a lot of money, but even the only i30n for sale on carzone (for ages), has changed this week from €48k to €50k.

Also, those prices bring things like the entry Tesla Model 3 into the fray, in both range, practicality and acceleration. I just can’t justify €50-60k+ on a hot hatch, it’s silly.

the R is €65-70k - I optioned a dsg one to €52k in 2015, but spent the money elsewhere in the end. €13-18k increase in 6 years, and surprise surprise there’s almost none of them being sold any more.

As for pure hot hatches, a facelifted MY22 fiesta for €38k seems like a bargain, which it isn’t .

    an i20N maybe?

They’re similar money to my MkV gti dsg back in 2006

€38K for a Fiesta is insanity... Hooch of this parish bought a new one in 2016 for less than 25k afaik!

You were robbed, I paid 22,750 for mine !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,903 ✭✭✭hooch-85

Yeah there were some great deals on them back then and I didn't really shop around once the 161 discounts were announced, I did a deal in Decenber 2015. I just took one that was in stock at Lyons' Limerick. Mine was a spirit blue ST2 which was supposedly a €950 option. I know of another white ST2 (non metallic) which was bought for under €22k at the other dealership across town.

Yep, I remember. Mine was the same spec as yours, I just had a different salesman - it wasn't even in stock in Lyons' they found & collected it from another dealer in Galway for me.

i imagine you’d both nearly get your money back, 5-6yrs later.👍

A new I20N is an eye watering 39.5k from a recent enquiry...

Gone are the days of reasonably priced interesting cars (I was also a lucky purchaser of a cheap Fiesta ST in 2016).

Did I see somewhere that the current Fiesta is roughly the same size as the mkV golf? Comparable cars realistically, if you ignore the name.

Traded mine for 15k in 2018 with nearly 80kms on it. I thought I was doing well. Its probably still worth that today.

I saw the 2k increase in the i30N. I wonder if they sold any at the lower price, haven't seen one about. In fairness, rare to see any i30N about.

I had made enquiries to see if they could get one in on the UK spec but they never got back to me, must not have wanted my money

Would you consider a Cupra Formentor?

there are a few demo cars with the golf R engine in the low fifties now and maybe could get one a bit cheaper?

Get good reviews and very practical. Good looking in my view too.

Very few good looking bmw left. Current 3 and 5 maybe also the 128ti but every other good looking one is out of production. Current x5 at a push. The rest are nauseating. I've had 7 or 8 bmw in various models and engine types so was somewhat a fan.

They are still making good cars, I'll give them that but they are pig ugly. Twice recently on the road I said wtf is that thing, an x7 which just looks stupid and misproportioned and also a 2 series estate that looked like a Chinese knock off attempt that went a bit wrong.

I do like the 4 series coupe. Had a good look at one today in traffic, tanzanite blue with the red calipers. I know its not to most peoples taste but I'd have no problem owning one.

    Challenging styling alright.

However when they tone it down slightly for the production model it will be alright. A lot of these designs appeal to the Asia market more than the European. The clientele this is aimed at also have different tastes and do not see the vulgarity we do.

In fairness if your contemplating buying an ultra luxurious hugely powerful massive suv like this you’re not exactly a shrinking violet to start with.

Got to see the i4 M50 in person yesterday and I was blown away by how good it looks. I’m going to have to try and change colour now back to Tanzanite Blue again though. The grill doesn’t bother me in the slightest, I’d say I like it now even in the configuration above. The interior is also really good and the big screens look great.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to drive it but did get a really good test drive in the iX. I wouldn’t buy one as the exterior looks is not something I could put up with but it’s a beautiful car to drive. It’s super quick to 60kmph but then you do notice it slows of quite a bit. It handles pretty well and is super quiet at high speeds even.

I think BMW basing the i4 exterior on the grand coupe is really good as it’s a great looking car.

    Great looking car!

My mate who sold his m340i was making enquiries and was told they're sold out here until 2023!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,814 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Looks well there. Tanzanite looks great when clean but can be dull when not. What colour have you ordered?

I saw Top Gear made the i4 their saloon car of the year in their awards.

Looking forward to seeing it myself.

I thought he sold that to free up some cash, not spend it on another car!

I am surprised at lack of availability but it seems all BMW's are badly affected now by shortages and I could see a few Tesla model 3 owners moving over to one of these

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,558 ✭✭✭JoeA3

haha he's looking at getting it through a company car / lease type of setup. But he's in no hurry, which is just as well, seeing the lead times.

I had a look today at Ford Mustang Mach E. A nice car in the metal, nicely finished too.

The bigger battery rwd car which is what you need is 70k on the road with the only extra being metallic paint. It does come very well equipped but it's a big ask at that money. Sales guy acknowledged this but reckons that more expensive cars are going to just be a fact of life.

My take is you could have a similar range i4 with a few extras for the same or be in the m50 for a bit more. The BMW would be more premium but is no more expensive. Unusually for a Ford but perhaps not surprisingly considering the market, no discount is being entertained as they can sell all they can get.

The dealership actually has a huge shortage of cars to sell and the sales guy reckoned there is another couple of years of under supply probable. They have a wait time of 18 months he said on some of the Jaguar/Land Rover cars and about six months if I want a mach E long range.

    Spoiler alert, I don't.

    That i4 m50 looks MEGA!!

(although as a buyer of a new 4gc, I have to remind myself that this one is €28k more than I paid for my 420d - yes I think it’s probably worth it, but I don’t want to spend it 😂
