Well the rural one starts by being misleading.. Saying...'with the NBP being deayed until '22...is just plain wrong...and misleading the public...like its stating that it's delayed/not starting till then...plonkers!

Realistically though at this rate I'd say even the 2022 completion isn't going to happen either. Too used to getting screwed over by the ISPs and government.

I'm afraid only God above controls the broadband down in Kerry.

I doubt much of the country is going to see any FTTH work being done until next year honestly. The places that are being worked on now are the first rollout.

Then God has zero control since there is no broadband in majority of places :pac:
My area is described as 'Advanced Broadband Area' according to Eir line checker. I can get 'up to 1mb' for only 40 euro a month. What a great deal :D

Yeah same for me in Tipperary. We keep getting cold called by Eir to try and get us off our Vodafone package and every time for the past two years they've said "ah sur the exchange is getting upgraded as we speak". The max they say our line can take currently is 5mbps, we get about 1.7mbps.

well think of this way at some stage you have FTTH,were as people waiting on NBP haven't a clue what they'll end up with.I think that way worser not knowing especially seeing how past NBP end up.

the way the NBP is heading we will be lucky if anything is started before 2020, nothing is gonna happen over the next 12 months then once the winning parties are selected there will probably be months if not a year of planning, yet more reports and more unforeseen delays. The NBP could stretch well beyond 2025.

No I won't get FTTH, not on a blue line even though if they logically laid them out where we were we would be on a blue line.

Not sure if this has been posted already:

    http://fibrerollout.ie/open-eir-adds-10000-new-premises-fibre-network-april-2016/
The Dundalk exchange added over 100 fibre to the home (FTTH) premises, bringing the total premises with access to up to 1 Gbps on the open eir network to over 1,600 in county Louth.

Just bumped into a really pleasant openeir tech doing surveys. He was in hortland in donadea and says he has been all over the place surveying. He was in the Curragh camp not long ago and says it's going to be completed very shortly and I should be covered. Fingers crossed.

I get the feeling that the cabling of FTTH along poles hasn't really started yet. It's just been ducting, surveying, trimming hedges that has happened so far. Alot of places will probably see alot of action over the next 2 months with alot of schemes starting at same time.

Also Eir's apprenticeship scheme for this project starts in June (I think) so around June/July could be when the work really gets going.

The fella I spoke to said everything being outsourced. He said all they are doing is surveying.

outsourced to KNN I would imagine, it was KNN who did all the work in our area such as ducting and hedge/tree trimming. Just waiting for them to hopefully connect the poles up soon!

My local exchange (Mooncoin) got a double update on the map today. FTTC 8 June and FTTH in Winter.

Yes! Because taskforces work so well...

I noticed the third of the three cabinets in Newmarket-on-Fergus is now in place and the power supply attended to.

That looks on track for going live end of next month.
Power supply would not be for FTTH..

Sorry wrong thread ....... but until the cabs go live the FTTH will not happen as those lines come from the cab, so, although unintentional on my part, it is 'somewhat' related :)

Not necessary to have FTTC before FTTH...there are areas getting FTTH that never had FTTC

I am aware of that .... but as I said the FTTH fibre is being routed through that third cab for FTTH in that particular instance.

This is the situation near me in the Curragh. I'm down the bottom of the picture.
Odd how it looks like they're adding a new cabinet (upper red dot) instead of using existing cabinets (eg lower dot).
I think there's like a backhaul route close to the motorway near the proposed new cabinet. Could that be it?

Not odd at all. Curragh Camp at the North and Suncroft to the south of Cut Bush are exchanges, Cut bush is just an FTTC cab.

OLTs will always be stored in the exchanges though in some suburban areas the fiber routes may "emerge" further out.

Also if fibre doesn't come up on the line checker have a look at this map http://www.openeir.ie/Our_Network/
Open the "NGA FIBRE BROADBAND NETWORK" map and on the right of the page click 'all' and find your local cabinet/exchange

I've noticed Eir vans around kilcolgin over the last few days/weeks. Checked the map and it's been updated to fibre live.

Only two towns away from me now !
