Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'll have to research the differences between the two games before I decide which one to go for (I never buy both versions) but I really like the running around parts that were shown which look gorgeous.

I'm pretty pissed that we are getting it later than the rest of the world for no reason again.

I like the grass and fire starters, like most of the internet I'm not a fan of the water type.

Leaning towards grass but still strongly considering fire.

The red nose just makes it look dumb & childish.
The owl is fine but why does it wear a grass bra? :o

I think it's meant to simulate seals balancing a ball on their nose like trained show seals do / used to do so I see what they're aiming for but I still don't like it very much.

I saw the leaves as like a little bow-tie. I think Rowlet's a total cutie but I've always been a sucker for fire types and the black and red design of Litten is really cool.

It won't even be the 23rd, thats a Wednesday, it'll be goddamn Friday, the 25th. Very cross it makes me, there's no reason for a weeks delay.

I can only assume server load? If that's the case why not alternate it between Europe and the US for the later release? No need for Europe to always get the later release. Even only being available on the 3DS store would be a fair compromise.

I've actually warmed to Popplio now but really wish they didn't give him that nose. Everything else is actually pretty good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 160 ✭✭beaner09

I think some people speculated that OR/AS were late as punishment for shops in Europe selling X/Y before the release date, dunno if that was just people putting 2 and 2 together though

    Legendary typing spoiler
Solgaleo is Steel/Psychic, Lunala is Ghost/Psychic. Very defensive pairing with not many weaknesses on either.

Strange how a Sun pokemon is weak to fire though

The new battle royale mode looks interesting. I like the traditional one-on-one format but it might be fun to try out.

Any word yet on wifi battle features? I really want a 'no legends' option for the battles.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

I'm really glad battle royale is a proper game mode now. Free-For-Alls were fun to do in multi-battles, but they were limited in that you had to target your team mate if there was only one person left on the other side, giving the person on their own an advantage of being able to attack without potentially getting hit back.

A new Pokémon, Salandit revealed. I'm super excited about this one for two reasons:

    1) Poison/Fire type, a combo I've wanted for a while now.
    2) It can poison Steel and Poison types!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

It looks fun but I fear this will lead to everyone having a Gliscor with them in battles to counter it, especially if this thing is vulnerable to Earthquake.

I suppose it depends on how strong it is, or any potential evolution would be.

I like Litten, the fire starter. The twisted fire starter.

Are the original 150 still in this game or is it totally different

Generally speaking you can catch at least some of the original 150, or you can trade them from other games, but much of the focus tends to be on newer pokémon for these games.

So far, almost all of the new pokemon look horrible. Does anyone know how many new pokemon they plan to have, about 100?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

No idea, I don't think they've said how many they'll introduce.

I don't mind some of the new ones. I like the ground horse, the elderly looking dragon (reminds me of Falkor), Salandit, Rockruff, the starters, Vikavolt, or the boxart legends.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,523 ✭✭✭joe123

Are the proper Pokemon going to be in this? The likes of Charmander and Geodude and the likes? Those new ones look daft.

Last Pokemon game I played of the main ones was Pokemon blue so maybe time hasn't been kind to the game?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,770 ✭✭✭Jen Pigs Fly

Omg I cannot wait to gets my hands on mudsdale! Soon my horse Pokemon team will be complete :D he'll join rapidash, zebstrika, giraffarig (I'm counting him as "horse like" ) Stantler (ditto as with giraffarig) and swasbuck!

The game has gotten 1 million times better! With mega evolution, over 800 Pokemon to choose from, larger regions, online battles and wonder trade especially! If you haven't played since blue my god you're in for a bumpy ride! There are different traits, different ways to level up, genders, breeding, IV/EV training, stat breeding!

Maybe play the likes of second gen or even 3rd just to get the hang of it ... Pokemon has been releasing a game every year so remember that - the game you played 17 odd years ago has come on a long way. It is nothing like Pokemon go ....

I hope eevee gets another block of evolutions! 8 are just not enough!

And what do you consider "proper" Pokemon. ..... Gen 4/5 pokemon as just as "proper" as gen 1 .....

As a true fan I consider all Pokemon equals to one another be they gen 1 or gen 6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

Some of the Gen 1 pokes are utter crap, same as Gens 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. So far Gen 7 has shown some crap too. All the gens have good and bad pokemon.

But yeah, it's changed a lot since Pokemon Blue.

Generally between the two games it's possible to catch all the pokemon. There are some exceptions but they're rare or legendary

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Has there been any mention of Mega's yet? I don't want to spoil everything so I'm not paying super close attention but don't recall any mention of them yet. Hopefully they ditch them and go back to the normal Pokémon but I've a bad feeling there will be some sort of fusion going on if not more Mega's.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

No mention of new megas, I doubt they'll drop that though.

Certainly sounds like a lot has changed. What I mean by "proper" Pokemon was the originals really. Looking at the new ones they have introduced, they look like a 5 year old drew them.

Just seems like they are clutching at straws to come up with a new looking Pokemon.

800 is insane. Is it quantity over quality?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

One thing that irks me with the complaining of how the new pokémon look, is that people acting like the originals all looked amazing. Sure gen 5 had ice-cream cones, but gen 1 had two red and white balls, and two blobs of purple slime.

And is nearly 800 that much (it's currently 721 not including the new ones that are announced), given they've been making the games for 20 years? They can't just run the games with the same 151 for the sake of nostalgia.

Only the pink headed bear (Bewear) and that old dragon (Drampa) annoy me but I often think they add pokémon to please players who aren't in my demographic. Mudsdale, Mimikyu, Salandit & other look pretty cool I think. I like the Legendaries for a change & the starters bar that silly red nose

Loads of amazing Pokemon! My personal favourites are tyranitar, hydregion, salamence and milotic! Sure think about the original 151 - there is a magnet (magnamite) a pile of goo (grimer) and a plant (oddish and bellsprout)

With the new Pokemon came new types, new move sets, new abilities and new evolution lines!

They'll probably try and integrate that synchro stuff from the anime.

Mega Evolution Bracelet/Stones will probably be available in the post game!

I'm guessing the Synchronisation thing will be announced soon, not really looking forward to it. The Pokemon announced so far have been mostly good, liking all the new abilities!

I find it funny how people who haven't played the game in 20 years have such knowledge on how the newer Pokemon suck without playing the game.

And if they didn't have 700 Pokémon another group of people would complain that the game is stale, boring and they have no ideas! Ya can't please everyone so you may aswell please the people who actually buy your game rather than someone who bought it 20 years ago!

I like mega evolution - I want mega lapras and milotic!
You can't keep everyone happy, this is the unfortunate backlash from people jumping onto the bandwagon, they think they know it all when the real fans who bought a game every year as it came out are left bemused at the noobs :pac:

May as well keep the real fans happy and focus on releasing more gens and more battle options! I want 6v6 battles!

Yeah I like Megas (some could have been done a bit better but overall they're good), those 2 would be fine, my issue would be when/if they do it when a regular evolution would be better!

6v6 match making is desperately needed alright, can take so long to get a battle with passer bys and 3v3 isnt enough when you have so many Pokes to choose from!

I wish megas were like an "After" evolution evolution if you get me - charizard evolves to mega charizard when holding mega stone at level 65 for example ..

6v6 would be amazing especially against the token 6 magicarp guy

One of the theories I've seen mentioned was that they'd introduce the Burst mechanic from one of the mangas. Thing is, I have no idea how the heck that would even work in the game, without completely reworking how the games work. I think it'd be a cool idea for a spin off series though.

Some more new stuff. Really looking forward to flying on a Charizard :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

Bloom Doom might be my new favourite move name.

My biggest issue with the Megas is it has eliminated the possibility of certain Pokémon getting a regular evolution. Pinsir, Sableye etc. People make the arguement that Eviolite Sableye for example would be too overpowered. Simple solution is to leave out the Eviolite. Problem solved. At the end of the day, I'd rather more actual Pokémon over a gimmick evolution.

Really need to get back into playing to get me in the mood for November.

I'm glad what I thought would be a synergy evolution type thing is actually just 1 really strong attack!

I understand the Exeggcutor forme change but curious about the reasoning behind Ninetales/Sandslash.

Seems they might be moving away from traditional gyms, interesting move!

This is exactly what I wanted from a new pokemon game. Like, almost to the letter. Serious change up to the structure, cool new pokemon, no more HM's. Happy as larry so far.
