Big difference there, Expensive by the standards of the day though
Crazy money both on provisonals car was brand new so wanted comp, car actually cost 9895 pounds shows how much everything has gone up though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

A lot of people had provisionals back then. I think I drove for about 2 years and then said fúck I will try for the full. Passed it then easy enough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,355 ✭✭✭ofcork

Yeah I was on my 2nd when I did the test.

Punto’s were always cheap, but that was a high end price for the late 90’s fir a mk1 nearing the end . Passed my own test with 2 months to go on my second provisional, was waiting 6 months for a test date, I only applied because I was bored one day

All the extras such as front fogs//electric windows? Nice! Had an apple green coloured one years ago in a 3dr, great car. Did you buy it in Grandons or Lee Garage? Or even old chapel car sales in Bandon? Dan Seaman is a Fiat dealer now

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,355 ✭✭✭ofcork

Lee garage and traded it in 2002 for a blue sporting yeah fiat fell off a cliff sales wise old chapel is now Finbarr galvin selling high end stuff.

Chill/Ivernia bumped me from 650 up to 822. No claims this year, they're just taking the pistachio. Rang them and the best they could do for me was 792.

123 quoted me 580 for the same policy I have already plus full NCB protection.

Your age: 55 driving 38 years accident free.
Car type and engine: 11 Ford Focus 1.6 Diesel
    NCB: Max
    Any claims: No
    Points: No

123 renewal for this year was €460 up from 355 last year.
Went online and got 10 different quotes from different companies.
Ranged from €353 AIG to €2016 . That fully comp with NCB protection.

No prizes for guessing which one I'm taking.

  • Registered Users Posts: 131 ✭✭BaguMka

Is anyone know what insurance companies convert NDE into NCB after one year of claim free driving? Thanks

Im surprised they would increase your premiums, I wonder if you called them and told them your quotes would they match it? Your profile screams responsible driver

I didn't have to call them as it happens, I received a call from them to know had I got the renewal quote and was I happy. I told them I had gotten it but was not happy and would be moving (as I do every year for the past 10 years or so) as I had gotten 5 cheaper quotes. The guy asked me what I had gotten from who, I just told him the lowest and refused to say who from. He told me they couldn't even contemplate matching it, so I said no problem. Thanks! :p

There is no logic when it comes to insurance quotes.

Well there probably is, but better not try to understand this.

Just ring around and get the best deal.

Do you suggest those above? XS Direct don'T have good reputation over the net.
    ANy brokers you suggest?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,309 ✭✭✭✭wotzgoingon

I was with XS Direct a fair few years ago when they done cheap quotes but with massive excess. Found them the same as any other insurance company though I never had to contact them once when I was with them so I didn't really have much dealing with them only getting the initial quote online and then renewing with them.

My renewal is in. Under €400 for comp. on a new Focus.

Is it even worth the bother of shopping around?

    171 Seat Ibiza Cupra

Last year 1000eu and my broker was able always get me renewal for 1k eu each year, first with FBD and currently with AXA.

Got renewal for 1138eu!!! Opened envelope before even having my coffee this morning. Steam coming out of my all holes is understatement!!!

Broker sent out AXA ncb certificate, but it only shows 1 year with them. No statement of my other 8 ncbs. How do I go around that? Call my broker and send out certificate with all my NCBs?

Can't even do online quotes as my renewal is on 29th and they need less then a month before giving quote.

Turns out it was. FBD quoted €330. I'll renew if it's matched other wise I'm off.

Insurance up for renewal on May 1st, just logged onto my portal to see is the renewal quote in, and it is.

    Age: 30 odd
Car: 2013 Ford Galaxy 2.0 Auto
    Licence: Full for 14 years
    NCD: 12 years
    Points/Claims etc: 0

Wife named on my policy, 30 odd years old, learner permit.

Been with AXA for all bar one year since 2008, premium last year was €800 comprehensive.

Renewal premium is €750 and i haven't even rang them to haggle yet.

Chances are i will renew with them as i need to change to a 9 seater van in the near future and the market to insure those is next to non existent. AXA said they would insure it if i remain with them. Also have my bikes with them but there is still 2 months to go on that policy.

    Edit:

I rang them, they have reduced it to €680

    McCarthy Insurance Group €1300
    Aviva €2300
    Allianz €712
    Liberty declined

Renewal notice with AXA for a 60yo male with full no claims discount on a 2010 1.4 Ford Focus Zetec €551 full comp plus no claims protection and rescue.

Called and the girl took a look to "see what we can do" and came back with a quote exactly 10% less. So another year for €496 that will do me.

    Wifes Renewal
    46
    full Licence
    No points, convictions etc
    Full 10 yrs NCB
    Hyundali ix35 1.7D
Renewal with itsforwomen - 460 underwritten by AIG
Nothing cheaper except direct with AIG 359, with everything on it, NCB protected, breakdown etc.
Probably not worth looking elsewhere, but did quote with Liberty, as seem to be good for some - 850E always dear for us?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,095 ✭✭✭johndaman66

I would be shocked if she got it any cheaper that that, certainly notably cheaper. As a guy who I was getting a quote from a couple of years back told me that €400 was the new €300 for car insurance. That was a renewal quote I got elsewhere, not from him - he pretty told me to take that other quote and their hand of with it. If thats the case then €360 must be the new €260 from a few years back - surely talking the minimum quote.

As I recall Liberty were actually the most expensive for me at my renewal back in February and I tried pretty much all companies and brokers. They were the cheapest on my home insurance renewal after so went with them for that but that is neither here nor there for this thread!

Open driven, fully comp, protected no claim bonus, rescue package, replacement key.

3rd year now with Axa ( having son named) as previous insurer An Post ( possibly 18 years with them) became far too expensive.

    €630

Going with them again also have additional multi policy with them.
