    Huge profits are made in the industry.

    So huge that RSA, Quinn & Setanta went bust, FBD needed to raise capital and providers are pulling capacity left right & centre

    I some how don't believe the figures very much like the Garda figures....

    Huge profits are made in the industry.

    Anything to back up that assertion?

    Nope. He has a predetermined disposition. No amount of facts and stats will change that

    The auditors, the CBI and everyone are in on a big conspiracy to hide the huge profits insurance companies make from the public and the tax man

    F*ck me if the margins insurance companies target are "excessive" and constitute a "rip off" I really hope you never find out the kind of margins most consumer goods are sold for

    Quoted me €636 and had to haggle them down on the phone. First year since I've started driving I've not ended up paying 6something. Can't understand why they just won't quote there best price to begin with.

    In the last year I've had a no fault accident with €750 bill claiming off the other person's insurance for a small respray and whatnot. Tried the usual checking other companies online but most of the 10+ websites I checked wouldn't offer a quote when I included the no-fault accident. Gave up trying after a while and just called Axa instead asking for the 10% dashcam discount which they said is for the first year's policy only. After a bit of back and forth the agent offered 10% off anyhow so relatively happy.

    years driving: 30+ with a full licence.
    any claims: None. Zero points
    Price and provider: 739 from of all folks Chill and about 100 quid down from last year. Fully comp with agreed value. Oddly no open drive, but I care not TBH(and they told me if I needed that for a rental car/holidays or whatever just to give them a bell). Chill were a kind of Hail Mary last resort after another crowd after a year of near double the above price, decided to double it again and cover less and others just flat out refused or quoted what I consider telephone numbers(one broker quoted three grand). The chap on the phone from Chill that year when he came back to me was apologetic at the price and was confused at my glee. :D Now to be fair I'm an old fart, I've never had any claim, never any points, or tickets before they came in and have always had pretty insurance unfriendly cars and am driving the above jalopy for 15 years and do low mileage. During the chat they did say all this very much stood to me. Especially the long term use of the older car. My risk is low. If I was looking for my first year insurance on the same car, or even a lower power/risk car of the same age well, good luck. Which to be fair is a nice change to hear. In previous years the length of ownership or the fact it's my "pet car" at this stage seemed to mean nada. I even checked this with a few saying I had the car a year or two and it made little difference. So yeah, it's nice to see some nuance come in.

    I'm half getting a bit worried about the cost of my insurance again, looking at the cost of everyone elses. I'm really struggling to see how it's so low compared to other similar posters

    Gone be the days I was getting my own insurance for <500 (on a 1.6 Megane). The wife on provisional limits those that will quote and supposedly the car grading isn't helping. A quick glance without the wife was still >700.

    Moving to Chill (Allianz) after 9 years with 123! They wouldn't budge enough.

    It's actually the best policy in the world. It does look expensive at first but it's amazing value when broken down. It's the Chubb Masterpiece policy

    thanks for sending that on. Looks very interesting Do you know if there is a mileage cap on the classic as well, or any other limitations (no commuting, etc)? I currently have a daily and a classic and would be keen on getting another daily perhaps thats a bit lighter on fuel!

    I do have a cap on the classics and they don't have business cover, this only applies to the 3 modern cars

    Back again to the grind. I honestly don't know where the last year has gone :o

    Like last year, most of the quotes I am getting this year are mad high, with one exception.

    09 1.6D Fiat Bravo
    Location: Cork city centre.
    No points, convictions etc
    1 NCB, 0 Named.
    1 windscreen claim. Doesn't really seem to effect much

    Current insurer: AA 1700 last year -> renewal quote of 2100. :rolleyes:

    Below are in format last years quote -> this years quote with 1 year NCB. Comprehensive/TPFT

    Liberty - 3800 Fully Comp -> 1849/1639 (TPFT)
    25 plus.ie - 2593 (Standard) - 2737 (Xtra). (2427/2564 - 750excess) -> 2009/2172 Xtra
    Acorn - Kennco 2285.47 (250 excess) -> 1398 RSA TPFT
    Axa (Direct) - 2594 Compy, 2448 TPFT. -> 1760/1658 TPFT
    Chill.ie - Axa 2430, Asgard 2778, Kennco 3203. All comp. Similar TPFT. -> RSA Sertus 1403/1280 TPFT
    Its4women - 2792(Standard), 3012 (Extra), 2614/2820-700 excess -> 1336 Comp/1230 TPFT
    Kennco (Direct) - 2894. (Comp)

    Fresh quotes:

    AIG - 1648/1484TPFT
    Allianz - 2000 TPFT
    Aviva - 1760/1658 TPFT.
    FBD - 1891/1856 TPFT
    XS Direct - 1780 Comp (3k Excess :pac: )
    Quoteme.ie - 1962/1847 TPFT
    Post - 1784/1650

    And the quote I think I am going for?

    Bank of Ireland - 922 (Popular) or 1011 (Prestige) TPFT / 943 (Popular) or 1034 (Prestige) Comp

    I honestly don't know how theirs is so low. It appears its all to do with my address. My specific address gives this, but if I just put in the area it gives a quote about 500 higher. It seems to be a big in their system, but that isn't my fault :pac::)

    Looks like I will not be getting any such good deal this year.

    It appears prices have gone up, unless there is the one cheap company I have yet to contact.

    Just rang GMHD, nice guys! Basically said that 930 was as good as I would do and they couldn't do better!
