Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do you mean literally under Brogan's, or will it be in Brogan's?

Not often you quote yourself with the answer. One of the lads who bought it, is involved with Cairn Homes, who also bought that land off RTE.

Another one. Who bought The Marble Arch?

Robert Reades renamed to Ryan's and seems to be using its early licence that I assumed was gone again

Opening 0830 for the Lions games. Don't appear to be using it otherwise

I was under the impression it was a (mostly) all or nothing thing to have the early licence; not selective use. Although Molloys on Talbot Street was closed for quite some time and still says it opens at 0700

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,773 ✭✭✭✭thesandeman

Unless things have changed, you only need to open one day a year to keep the licence alive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69,588 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Plenty of active licences thst haven't opened in tears including some that would be unsafe to have people in (derelict buildings). Revenue changed the rules heavily in the early 2000s probably preparing for the new regime that never happened (cafe bars etc); may have altered the rules then

The Dalkey Duck has opened in.....Dalkey this weekend. It was MacDonaghs which wasn't up to much but had a nice beer garden.
    http://thedalkeyduck.ie/
Had a look in on Sunday evening, not much in the way of Craft beer, Wicklow Wolf Elevate I think was the height of it with a few crafty others, think a Franciscan Well tap.
Had been hoping it might be more like Bourkes pub in Whelans. Will probably still head to the Magpie for my draught craft needs.

they have their own website, facebook, instagram & twitter and nowhere can you see a fecking list of drinks, let alone prices. WTF is wrong with these businesses, loads of photos up too, this is the one of the bar, you'd swear it's done on purpose

There was a new camile thai takeaway open near me, again loads of photos, and a video of some girl juggling, you can barely see but there was a sign behind her saying there was some lunch special, but no sign of what it was anywhere else.

    Idiots...

You can't even see what most of the taps are, which is a bit ridiculous.

Not a pub but an O'Briens (Superstore)Off Licence in Blanchardstown.

Popped in to have a look and walked out after a 5 min look around.
Great wine selection it seems and not bad for spirits either but beer selection is terrible.

They'd better! The plan, at least initially, is to have no permanent beers in the line-up.

With facebook & instagram there is no excuse, websites might cost money to update as they might be run by a third party.

Imagine a restaurant having a website and not thinking of putting the menu up.

I think wetherspoons do not have all them readily available as they charge different prices in different pubs and have seen backlash online, but they could still take photos of the taps and fridges. But spoons do have some prices/offers showing up on facebook.

Restaurants are aware that their main product is the food. Almost every Irish pub, including almost every beer specialist, regards the pub as the product and the beer as incidental. You're there to go to the pub, not to drink something specific, hence there's no need to know in advance what's on. It's probably justifiable too: from sitting at the bar long enough I'd say the number of punters who care about the specifics of the beer is negligible.

But Underdog will be different *cough*.

Yea hopefully Underdog will be the first proper craft beer bar in Dublin. Not gonna even try and quantify what I mean by 'proper' except that no fluff on the list, no food until you're gonna do it well. A taproom rather than a pub, if you will.

Planning a west coast trip to the states, most of the tap lists are live and contain serving size, pricing, even an indicator of how much is left of the beer. That's the dream but will probably take a while till we see that here.

There are a lot of good live tap list tools out there, like http://digitalpour.com/#the-menu

But I would even be happy with what you suggested!

Since the rise of craft beer pubs it has become very important to several people I know. It's not that they want some rare craft beer, rather they refuse to go to pubs without guinness or heineken, or will go "for one" on the agreement they/we leave to go elsewhere.

Their instagram/facebook has plenty of photos, some of interest, some of presumably very little interest. Fact is it costs nothing to host them, and though only some might have an interest I reckon a higher % of people visiting the page would like to see a nice visible photo of the taps or fridge, rather than a tree or building site & cement mixer out the back (which is what they have). How it doesn't even cross their mind really amazes me.

Bierhaus in Cork has an untapped page with all their draught offerings, serving sizes, abv, and prices. It also shows what's coming up on draught. I think it has all their bottles too. And it is actually kept updated.
They also tweet pics of their updated blackboards regularly.

Abbots ale house have also gotten much better at tweeting new draught tappings.

Yeah, went in the other week and so far the place is a giant waste of space. By that I mean the interior is so big compared to the amount of product in it. The beer selection was disgracefully poor, I think the small one in the centre was better.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that they're still getting it up and running.

I dropped in to have a look today. Not much there that you couldn't get in SuperValu tbh and I left without buying anything. Seems like a huge missed opportunity to give Molloy's a bit of competition.

Decent write up about Underdog here https://www.thesun.ie/living/1204572/dublins-newest-craft-beer-establishment-is-no-underdog/ sounds like they'll have the tap listing displayed on TV screens which would be cool.

Galway Bay's The Wickham Tap opens today.

Also, there's a new pop-up on Marlborough Street in Dublin called Piper's Corner.

That pubs been closed for ages - if this is a pop-up does anyone know the long term plan?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,691 ✭✭✭s3rtvdbwfj81ch

looks like it's more than a "pop-up" going by the photos of builders etc inside.

    Is it the Flowing Tide?

Flowing Tide is still open! OCaseys always had an active licence when shut so we'll suited to this sort of use but you wouldn't do major building work for temp use

Google finds me an SBP article from February behind the paywall (that was either in the daily edition, or I missed it as I buy the paper every week) saying that the intended name for where Pipers Corner is going is to be The Rosie Hackett. Can only assume the refit is for that and the "popup" is short-term before a full launch?

Anyway, any new opening/reopening of somewhere I haven't been makes me antsy about completion (:pac:) so I'll need to wander in when its open.

The piper's corner (sean o caseys) opened today at 4pm, from what I've heard it's not a pop up it's permanent
