    I think I'm getting old.... :(

Every so often to pass the time, I check out potential new motors on DoneDeal and in the last few days I've kinda drifted away from the idea of another A6 (as finding a comparable spec to my own is virtually impossible) and have found myself looking at these ..

    44092178.jpeg

If I was going to do anything it'd be in the new year but what do ye think? Would I be mad? Should I get a pipe and slippers to go with it? :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,865 ✭✭✭✭MuppetCheck

I'd say the A6 is more an older persons car tbh. The CLS in the right spec is still a stunning car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,925 ✭✭✭GvidoR

I'd take an A6 over that.

Well you guys are no help! :p

I love my A6 but what I find when I'm browsing is people REALLY didn't bother with the options list when they bought them. It's a bit like how so many Fords are LX base specs.

With the A6 you find so many cars with cloth seats, basic climate, no parking sensors, basic MMI (the red screen always gives it away) or various mixes thereof, but never anything as "complete" as my own one (leather memory seats, MMI High, front/rear parking sensors with display, BOSE audio, factory xenons, auto lights and wipers, steering wheel controls, paddle shifters, cruise control, full climate, rear electric blind... yet again despite all that she doesn't have Bluetooth for phones and no heated seats - strange really!).

I actually think the only way to get most of what I have is to buy an A8 and that's because their base spec is higher but these seem to be becoming increasingly rare in the used market after a few years - guess they're being exported because of their "high tax" rates. Even the 2008 models are €1200 in tax. :(

I dunno though.. I think that CLS in gold with the cream interior is pretty tasty all the same!

Oh well.. it's not like I'll be buying something in the morning so plenty of time yet to argue with myself :)

To be honest I'd probably have an equivalent merc over any offering by audi. That cls is a cracking looking car. And I'm 23.

I don't get the association that mercs are old men's cars. Any old man I see is bopping along at 20 mph in his 15 year old fiesta

So after a month of looking and interviews I've managed to land myself my 1st preference job :) if you had asked me 2 years ago I'd of said I wouldn't of had a hope of getting it. Close too comes to a 50km round trip commute daily.

That's basically petrol territory even with a few trips at the weekend. I might buy something mad yet granted it will be late next year before I'd even be looking.

Runs out and buys 316i :pac: it's actually gone to the stage which any kind of a slightly newer petrol car <10 years old is hard enough to get. Well I mean decent power output petrols. Anyway I'll have loads of time to look.

Go older than 10 years. You won't regret it.

Possibly not sure if it would be too harsh sporty for everyday use but I'd definitely consider one when looking.

Clean car all right will be well gone by the time I go looking. One weird preference I have is rear doors I'd much prefer to have them which will certainly make the search more difficult although most hot hatches came in 5 door not the Clio though obviously.

Golf GTI...two birds, one stone and all that.

    Congrats on the job.

I'd say an ST then, for that weird and mad 5 pot burble, 225bhp and more if you want to go the SG route.
