Worth a couple of point no doubt, not enough to make them favourites.

They were good enough to make use of a first half where SA were doing their best to shoot themselves in the foot. They were outscored in the second.

That's a fair reason for not basing judgement on 6N results. But it doesn't give you any real info to judge current ability. You could conclude that it should be better, but not by how much. It also ignores that Ireland have improved hugely since the 6N.

If you compare results from the competition (not fool-proof, but the best indicator we have), you'd see that England beat a SA in the semis by less than Ireland beat the team that beat them in the group stages. ie. that Ireland had a better semi-final result than England.

FWIW, I just don't see the evidence for England to have a heavy favourites tag. Personally I'd put Ireland at slight favourites but would find even or England at slight favourites understandable.

I did ask this question originally to see if there was anything I was missing...but from what I'm seeing, I'm not? It's just hype?

Apart from the Georgia game this Ireland team has not been favourites for any game. The handicaps have often been very wrong. In general the bookies have gotten a good few games wrong this tournament.

At this moment in time, this game is a toss up. For Ireland to be 11/4 is nuts imo.
I don't bet. But if I did I would gladly take those odds on Ireland.

Ireland scrum has been fantastic all tournament. Just getting demolished here.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,950 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

This game is over if Ireland can't get any of the ball.

Big English superiority in the scrum.
