MacDonald was ever so close if this is correct! Gutted for him! Fair play to McGregor; answered a lot of my questions I had about him coming into this fight. Roll on Aldo and I think I'll be reassessing my opinions before the original fight that Aldo would won a comfortable decision.

great to see him win it, but an iffy fight. the one before it with lawlor and mdonald, now that was a proper brawl. enjoyed that one.

Its nothing but pure snobbery and ignorance. I've watched plenty of fights with many different kinds of stoppages some short, some long, some dodgy, some bizarre.

I've heard the phrase "The ref is giving him every chance" plenty of times too when fighters are in real trouble. I've seen refs tell fighters that they can't just covered up and seen refs allow them to do it when the clock is about up.

It might seem like a stoppage every day of the week to you but there are different opinions and varying degrees when it comes to these things. And just because someone disagrees doesn't mean they've never watched a fight before.

Between the snobs, the trolls and the just plain dicks hurling abuse this place is quite the train wreck.

McGregor was actively defending Mendez on the ground, every time. Communicating with the ref throughout. The elbows were just getting through. When Mendez was on the ground he just curled up into a ball and was getting wailed on. It's amazing people can't see the difference and think that was in anyway a fix.

I've only missed two PPV events since 100. It was, for me, the best main card ever.

Irish MMA has come along since I was at McGregor v Sowinski in Portlaoise. That was a great night. This was even a better one!

2015 and there is an Irish UFC Champion. What a time to be alive.

Conor was always going to get taken down - its Chad Mendes for **** sake. But how he handled him on the ground was very impressive. Conor did not look out of place one bit, he got back to his feet well, held guard well, Bas Rutten-esque attacks from the bottom and a beautiful escape from the attempted guillotine before the finish. I thought we might see some submission attempts from the bottom, but he was obviously more interested in trying to limit Chad.

His stand up is out of this world, though. Yeah, he ate a few shots, but again, its Chad Mendes. Its not a bum, Chad hits everyone. And it isn't as if he was getting beat up on the feet. He hurt Chad with the body shots and some nice headshots. He must hit like an absolute truck the way guys go down. Serious finish. It will be interesting to see these guys fight again after the two of them have full camps. Aldo first, hopefully.

Brandao took a dive. Poirier was ko'd illegally and took a dive at the same time. Now the fight against Mendes was stopped too early. If Conor ripped his head clean off like he's been promising us for so long people would still have a problem with it.

People call him classless but just watch the respect he showed Chad after the fight, and the passion and emotion he showed in the post fight interview.

This win was so much more satisfying than the dominant beatings that came before. Mendes dragged him into deep water and McGregor still came out on top.

Can't wait to hear what's next

I think it's a fair comment tho. Most cards have one or two boring bouts, usually the title fight... This one had it all. So many clean connections. Even the wrestling and grappling was tense and exciting. It very much had it all, and will be a massive sell to the casual fans.

True, though to be fair the main card tonight came up trumps. Each fight was a fantastic, some great finishes and the last two fights had a big fight feel to them too. Throw in the big ppv buyrate this will do and how nicely it sets up big money fights with McGregor and Aldo/Edgar and you can see why there is a genuine argument for this being UFC's best ever ppv.

I can only speak for myself but I've been watching UFC for 5 years and that's the best card I've ever seen.

Even without the McCregor fight. Apart from Gunnar Nelson against Thatch every other fight was an all out war and every fight was so finely balanced.

Oh yeah and flying knees. 2 of them.
