Chicken Satay Skewers w/ Satay Sauce in the freezer section down from the pizzas. Delicious.

Just saw these are 'made in Thailand using Thai chicken'.
Can't say I'm too happy with that...

One would have expected Thai producers to use Irish chicken the way Irish producers use Thai chicken.

Those crispy onions which are in the ready meals section. I had a half packet of steak ones languishing in the fridge so I put them into cous cous before adding water, butter & seasoning. REALLY tasty! Added a lovely flavour.

Really nice on a burger too 👌

Do Aldi sell the bottles of Nordic fruit cider anymore? Have not seen them in two stores the past couple of weeks.

Bought a couple of packs of their new handmade pittas. Lovely fresh feel to them.

Oh, I buy pita breads all the time, love them, haven't seen these ones in my aldi yet.

    Must have a look soon!

    Do they do wholemeal ones?

Anyone find the Aldi camembert seemed to change a few months back. Used to be runny when cooked but now it's like jelly. On the search for a nice camembert replacement. Any suggestions?

They buy our beef and butter etc (Kerry have a big plant just outside Bangkok, look up Kerry Ingredients (Thailand) Co., Ltd.) and we buy their chicken.

    No big deal.

I've tried some of the Spuddy's crisps, and while the salt and vinegar barely taste of anything, both the cheese and onion and the smoky bacon ones are good.

The peanut butter flavoured popcorn from The Foodie Market at the tills is quite nice.

Bought some frozen Avocados Halves a while ago, think they were about 2.99.

Not at good as fresh - might be ok in a smoothie.

I used 2 in a salad and for that I'd say they were passable.

The Daily Mail had an article on frozen Avocados today and someone commented
"Freezing avocados will ruin the cellular structure as the cells expand when frozen, you'll end up with a mushy slice of avocado, not very nice."

Disappointed as buying avocados and waiting for them to ripe isn't always the easiest and the ripe ones are expensive.

"Tasty" Roasted Vegetable Pasta Melt - €3.99

    Very Nice - Recommended.

They also have a Mince beef bolognese one, while not as good, is fine.

Specially Selected 2 Melt in the Middle Smoked Haddock Fishcakes

    €2.79

    Very nice recommended.

In fact any of this Specially Selected fish range I've had is good, eg Salmon cakes.

This is freezing in a regular home freezer. The prefrozen ones would/should be flash frozen so they come out a lot better, I think it is frozen so fast that the cells do not get a chance to rupture or something. Mushrooms will also come out as mush if you freeze them yourself in a regular freezer, but you can buy prefrozen, there is loads of new frozen stuff these days I did not see years ago, chickpeas, diced chorizo, diced onions.

My freezer has a fan which blast cold air and I wonder if it can mimic commercial flash freezing. It will have a can of coke starting to freeze in 10mins.

Agree - I've tried them all probably at this stage. Perfectly easy midweek supper, just pop them in the oven, boil some new potatoes and throw together a bit of a salad.

The "Tasty" buttery roast potatoes are good too, we had them last night as I had none of my own in the freezer. There was ten in the tray, so perfect for 2 of us.

Recommended cooking time was 50 minutes, but I gave them an hour at 200 (fan oven) and they were very nice. I'd buy them again.

    Just a note on the rib eyes;

We've had better luck with the cheaper clear pack ones as opposed to the "better quality" black packs. Have had a few of the black packs that were tougher.

We always follow the same cooking pattern.

On the counter for half an hour to bring up to room time
    Pat down with kitchen roll
    Season with salt and pepper
    Smoking hot griddle pan
    Rest
    Eat

    It might be chance though?...

First they came for the socialists...

I genuinely prefer the striploins in the clear pack to the ribeye. Maybe its just me.

Just on the burrito bowls, I tried the shredded chicken one today and was even more impressed than I was with the beef one.

Good portion of chicken, lots of veg (corn peppers and spring onion), rice and a side of chilli beans.

My only gripe would be with the side of chilli beans, they should double or even treble it as it helps moisten up the rest of the dish.

Still a good 4/5 from me though, and not bad for 3.50, definitely beats a chicken fillet roll lump of junk.

another good one are frikadlines- pork burgers or whatever one would call em 5 in pack, throw em into oven, make carrot onion sauce let it caramelize in butter add milk a bit of flour to thicken and put the frikadils into it to soak up a bit, some potato salad and done :)
