What kind of ridiculous logic is that? My lights are on the same as the always have been. I have the lights on when I'm home and turn them off when I go out and when I go to bed.

And no, they are energy saving bulbs.

Hmmm the mystery is deepening. Is it possible that you are just sleeping a lot less and therefore have the lights on a lot more? If you have bought a lot of lamps recently that could also explain it.

I'm not seeing any benefit on my ESB bills. If the new bulbs were that much better then I should be saving money - I'm not.

I find myself replacing them just as often as before.

You are prob using CFLs. LED are better. They last pretty much forever.

price of electricity going up and as your appliances age they're alot less efficient so your bills should be going up.

and if you're replacing led bulbs as often as old style bulbs you need an electrician as you have major problems .

So now I'm not only leaving the lights on all the time because fúck it why not AND I've been on a lamp buying spree?

    This is my experience:

    - The new bulbs cost more than the old
    - They last about as long as the old
    - My lights are turned on the same as always
    - My ESB bills have remained the same

So everything is the same besides the higher cost of the new bulbs. €10 today for two LED bulbs in my local hardware store whereas before I could have bought two bulbs for a few euro.

All in all, it's a scam.

Ya, I don't need to learn. I lived in the incessant rain side.

Old appliances are indeed less efficient than new. But to say they get less efficient as they get older? Source or GTFO.

If you're replacing LED then theres something wrong with your wiring, they really do last a lifetime.

Worked in the public sector. They would have to hire four people to get the work of one done. It's a disaster.

    The public service of... socialism?

I don't think you know what socialism is. It isn't the Irish public service.

    Anyway, off topic.

Socialism is a system of ideas. Maybe bad ideas. But not a scam.

Lighting is probably the least of your esc costs, for instance ,if you had five old filament lightbulbs in your house at 60 watts a piece, that is only 300 watts compared to a kettle=1000 watt,cooker=3000 watt, microwave =800 watts and so on.changing those 5 bulbs to led at 15 watts is now 60 watts,

A bit of a saving but nothing compared to what the rest of your appliances are using

If buying led bulbs, buy good quality branded ones, a lot of the cheaper one are absolute rubbish and will not last pissing time

You could save an absolute fortune if you got an LED kettle and cooker :pac:

Socialism is a system of ideas. Maybe bad ideas. But not a scam.

Public ownership is one of the central ideas. Hence my comment about the public sector.

Can we do a calculation of the running costs? Say 5 x 60w filament bulbs vs 5 x15w LEDs. Lights on for say 8 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Depends on the time of day too.

Fed up of gyms ? Fed up of energy saving light bulbs ? Then come join my new commune where we shall pray to Thomas Edison to deliver us from this new devilery, and all you need to do is give me the power of attontery over you. A recent survey says that material goods and money are the leading cause of stress, gym memberships and energy saving light bulbs ! Who needs em?

The "Taste of Dublin" at the weekend was quite the scam. You fork out cash for a ticket to actually enter this food and drink event, then you have to pay for everything you eat or drink apart from some tiny samples. If that wasn't bad enough, you can't actually spend real money at any of the stalls, and instead you need to exchange your Euro for the event "currency". The currency is only available in multiples of five, and you can't change any leftover festival currency back to Euro when you leave! And your ticket doesn't even get you in for the day - you only get in for one 'session', and after a few hours they boot you out to allow the next lot of ticket-holders in.

All that being said, I enjoyed myself at it, but it's definitely an impressive exercise in thoroughly gouging punters.

shall you be running everything off DC current?

Are you able to isolate the amount of electricity usage from your lightbulbs on your bill? If not then you can't say everything has remained the same. You're using different devices across your network, with presumably different unit costs of electricity than a few years ago.

IF you're using lights the same amount, but with energy efficient bulbs, you're paying less in electricity for lighting than you were before, that's just a fact.

    Income tax.

Imagine you meet up with your younger sister. First time you've seen her in a few years as you've been out of the country for a while. Chatting away, she tells you of the new job she's started. Pays well. You're delighted for her obviously, she's worked hard to get where she is. Tells you she's been seeing a guy, Billy. That kind of thing, just catching up. You ask her if she'd like to come out for a nice meal the next night, maybe go for a few drinks after?

"I'd love to, but I just don't have the money".

"Huh? How's that, considering what you get paid? "

"Oh, lol, well I get paid that. But then I have to give Billy a big chunk."

"You... you what? What do you mean "have to" ?"

"Oh no don't get the wrong idea, I give it to him, and then he pays my electricity and water bills and stuff like that for me... and well uses some for his bills... and he keeps some for spending money for himself... for pints with the lads... his car insurance... hookers... things like that..."

"Fvcking hell Mary. Why on earth are you going along with that? You could just pay your own bills! Let him pay for his own fvcking car insurance! And hookers!? You can't honestly be trying to tell me you're OK with him using your money to pay for hookers?"

"Well, I don't agree with everything he does with it... but I mean he does make sure the electricity is paid... So... "

" But it's your fvcking money. Tell him to fvck off! "

" Oh... Billy wouldn't like that. I said that once and he chained me to a radiator for a week and took all of my wages off me instead of just some. "

"Jesus Christ! What? I'm going to kick his fvcking teeth out!"

"No you can't! He... he has lots of friends... and they have guns... "

"Well why don't you just leave the prick for crying out loud?"

"Oh, I couldn't do that... He does make sure the electricity bill is always paid. And one week when my wages didn't come through on time he still paid the electricity bill. "

"Out of the money you'd given him previously...?"

    "I guess... "

    Fvck off out of it.
