Guy from UPC just rang me there, offered me HD TV, 240mb B/B and Home Phone for €35 per month for 12 months.

I have broadband and phone already from them for €45 per month so this seemed like a no brainer.

    Anyone else get it?

After the 12 months if you decide not to keep TV do you still pay €45 for your current phone and BB package or will you be charged €55?

Oh I never thought of that :o

I'll worry about in 12 months, that's the 3rd time in the last year I signed some new deal or contract with them so there is bound to be something else.

Says 6 months here and 12 months here!

I'd be more inclined to say it's 6 months. I can't imagine UPC ringing somebody up to offer them more services for a smaller price.

No its definitely 12, he read the whole contract T+C out to me over the phone. I don't have a TV service so it will be nice to have it for the next 12 months costing me nowt.

Is there a self serve discount on this? Direct debit?

I wasn't paying by DD but had to get this so discount is included I'd imagine.

Get the contact in writing by mail back with the full terms and don't accept the standard one they send out, that says "contract as advised to you by the advisor on the phone".
At least if you have something in writing, you know where you stand.

+1. I think you might find it's 12 months after the initial discounted 6 months (i.e. 18 months).

But I'm surprised you were offered it as an existing customer. The website says it's for new customers only.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭Streetwalker

No it's 12 months as I signed up yesterday. Only had their broadband/phone package with them 3 weeks at 25 for first 6 and 45 after that for the next 12 but guy on phone said 35 for next 12 months including HD TV and upgrading the broadband to 240mb?? think it was. Had been considering the android box TV as friend has one and you get everything with it but couldn't be arsed now for next year anyway.

Get a recording of the call. You'll need it when the bill comes in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭gomara

I took this deal as well i was on 45 bb only got TV added for 35 per month total but definitely only 6 months then 6 months at 90, so if you got 12 months at 35 you've done well, I'm an existing bb customer so they are offering it.

Definitely 12 months, in the TC it said I would be charged €90 on the 13th month.

    How long is the contract?

    How long is the contract?

Their website is really unclear on that, they say it can be 18 months for some customers but they don't state which ones. I think they have to tell you if it's 18 months (during the 14 day cooling off period), other than that it is 12.

It says 'An 18 month contract applies to new customers taking a discounted offer. Otherwise a 12 month contract applies.'

Do you have to ring them or can you apply this change via myupc.ie? My existing contract is due to expire at the end of the month.

Is Horizon TV good on UPC, did they sort out problems people were having when it first came out?

or in a mail. UPC can be a PITA. you sign up for a deal and then get charge something completely different and then get the run around by their customer service. In my experience you need to go straight to the Cancellations dept with UPC to get anything done

I just got the same call there about 25 mins ago so asked for some time to mull it over (I wanted to do some digging on here) so going from €55 pm for broadband and phone to €35 for the whole lot and defo 12 month contract.

So just to wait for the call back now oh and I mentioned that I would like the router seperate to the horizon box and was told that would be no problem.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭Jon_459

When I check their website all the reduced offers are for new customers.

Question for existing UPC customers who posted here - did they call you or did you apply for this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 866 ✭✭✭iknorr

Just got off the phone with UPC.

I rang them after coming across this thread.

They wouldnt give the 35euro a month for 12. Offered me half price for 6 months, taked about skysports being 32 instead of 40 etc.

Would not give me the 35 euro a month deal.

Did existing customers receive a call from them or did you call them about the 35 euro a month deal?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,648 ✭✭✭✭beauf

I got no where with them. I plan to cancel and just keep the BB.

Had enough of the horizon box.

You probably have to be out of contract to get it. It ties you in for another 12 months which means guaranteed income for UPC. Why else would they offer somebody a cheaper deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,956 ✭✭✭Tippex

I got a call from them in fairness I would have been out of contract a good while and this is a new 12 month contract with a €200 per service penalty if you break it.

Per service? So €600 (BB, TV, Phone)? I don't think that's right.

Maybe its the cynic in me but their recent dreadful TV subscriber stats would be one reason that springs to mind. Is this just being offered to BB only customers I wonder? next quarter their TV figures magically increase...

Thats what I was told on the call so the quick tot up was "I'd be better off keeping it one way or the other". It's one way of guaranteeing your income.

very possibly the fact that my cost will go down to €35 pm and include tv helps. previous calls for me to add on TV have always been met with a "nah your alright" response. Oh and they have agreed to unbundle the BB from the TV so I will have the router and not have to have the BB through the horizon box.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,906 ✭✭✭Streetwalker

They called me I didn't contact them. Got the contract confirmed by email and signature so very happy with that. Like I said I was going to just buy an android box as you can watch any show or event on it for free but I figured 35 for all three was pretty good so just took it. Includes free calls to mobiles also. I'd say they are getting their arses kicked from the droid boxes everyone I know seems top be dropping subs TV like a hot potato

I am reading the small print wrongly? I am reading it is a 18 month contract for new customers otherwise a 12 month contract applies
I pay €37 for broadband and phone and split connection to get to ;)
I am so sick of wires!! Could I get this deal but keep point in kitchen for broadband and then that horizon to in sitting room?

yes but I think you may have to pay for another point which is €60 (worth it in the long run I think)

am i right in saying i will most likely need a new phone if i move to UPC from Eircom or Sky?

i seem to recall this being the reason why i didn't do it in the past

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 870 ✭✭✭WildCardDoW

UPC might need to install a new connection (cable point) in your house which the Horizon box will be connected to, you plug your phone into the Horizon box.

I moved from Eircom and my Panasonic landline phone fits in into the UPC router using the same standard RJ45 (?) connection type cable.

The only thing obviously is that your calls are over the internet so some older phones may not work. UPC have a list on their website somewhere but its not a complete list - should be OK if your phone is modern enough.

actually, not obvious enough, i wasn't aware the calls are over the internet. i just thought the cable line replaced the phone line

now that you say it, i do remember looking at the list before and while my phone is new enough, only a few years old, but it wasn't on the list

I got onto their online chat feature - im paying 46 a month for bband and im outta contract at the moment! Was told im on the cheapest plan and thats it....
I dont want tv with them as i had a nightmare with horizon before
Any tips to get a better deal?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,019 ✭✭✭ct5amr2ig1nfhp

Ring and ask for their loyalty department. Tell them you're looking at moving to another provider and if UPC will offer you a loyalty discount to stay.

I you have someone else in the house, your could always sign up as a new customer.

:) I only put in the 'obvious' bit in as I didn't want to sound like I was telling you something you may already know! When I changed to UPC earlier this year I never thought of that either. Also another one is that you'll have to leave your router on 24/7 - with Eircom I switched it off at night.

My ~5 year old Panasonic wasn't on the list either. The UPC list is poor and incomplete.

Once it is newish you might be OK. The engineer installing mine toke a quick look and said it would work no problem before I had a chance to test.

Any phone that has an external power supply will work like normal. Pretty much the only phones that don't work are the ones that have a million buttons and no external power.

Yep, agree with this. You'll probably get through to sales, but loyalty is who you want. Usually quite helpful (I've found) and keen to keep your business, if you are with them a while.

I was on that nice €35 50% off deal, which expired, so I was out of contract. Best I could get from them was 9 months at half-price, so it works out at c. €40 a month for the nine months, and then up to €80 for last three. This is for the high-speed line, basic TV package, and landline, including intl mobile calls, which I find handy.

Thanks for sharing. I'm on that same deal, expiring in August - so very interesting to see options for renewal. Looks like you did a decent deal. Worth looking at Eircom's eVision options after the 9 months half price is up.

Why would you turn off your router at night? You could seriously shorten it life doing that. If you just want to turn off WiFi at night you can set to turn on/off in settings.
