Thought it was a pretty slow episode till the last 15 mins or so.

    Then shít got real.

That episode was phenomenal. They managed to cram so much in.

    Tyrion and Daenerys was great.

I wasn't expecting any kind of epic battles until episode 9 though. Even in the build up, on numerous occasions I expected it to fade to black as a cliff hanger.

I sense that a new "Come At Me Bro" meme is about to hit the internet.

That was insane. Best episode since Red Wedding.
Is anyone else seeing the King Arthur thing going on with Jon Snow? His sword can kill White Walkers i.e "Excaliber". He is the purest, most honorable character on the show. He is a bastard, just as Arthur was a common squire. As the Arthur legend goes, only the pure of heart can remove the sword from the stone and thus become king. In effect, Jon Snow possesses Excalibur, and thus will become King. Although guessing what's coming in this show is a fool's game, that's what I see coming. Also, it would be great payback for the killing of Ned Stark, which I'm still not over

I never had much time for the whole "Army of the Undead" and "White Walker" story angle..
    ..but FnCK ME!

Fecking like 28 Days Later the last 20 mins!!
    So so good

So the Lord Commanders sword can kill White Walkers - that's handy (it is Valarian Steel afaik)
What isn't handy is that they left all the dragonglass behind
I'm Guessing the Giant still has the one he was holding onto though

Tyrion and Dany could be good, Cercei having a tough time, looks like Ramsay is heading out on another hunt (might give time for Reek to redeem if Ramsay is away) but all I can comprehend right now is the White Walker King being a bad ass

See that's the storyline I'm most interested in... mainly because it nullifies all other storylines. Who gives a **** who's king of the seven kingdoms when a goddamn zombie snowman army is marching south?

Yes but before now it was :
Sam vs Undead / White Walkers
Much more interesting when Jon vs Undead / White Walkers

Stannis mentioned a couple of episodes ago that there is lots more of the glass on dragonstone so I'm guessing that will be important later.

worlds war Z meets GOT and StarTrek [ whitewalkers looked like romulans :) ].
whew, that was a blast what an episode!

The only downside to this episode was it really highlighted how SH!TE the fight scene in the Dorne Garden actually was

While the start was slow, it was still entertaining. But that battle was phenomenal! The look of sheer panic on Jons face when the Whitewalker King rose the dead up. Christ, they've just upped the ante 100 fold. We finally saw the real threat that the Whitewalkers are. Amazing episode!

I kind of spoiled Hardhome for myself weeks ago, in that I knew there would be some engagement with the white walkers but fcuk me I didn't see that coming.

    Epic stuff. Winter is here.

I liked the way Dany gave this speech to Tyrion on "I don't want to stop the wheel, I want to destroy it"- then we shoot over to beyond the wall and the White Walker's are doing just that! Won't be much of a Westeros to Conquer if things continue this way

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,985 ✭✭✭Essien

    Also, what's Jorahs angle now?

Is he plotting a greyscale outbreak within the city?

Epic battle with the white walkers, phew!!!!! And I loved the sparring/sussing each other out between Dany and Tyrion as well. I didn't quite get how Jon's sword was able to kill the White Walker though. I thought the dragon glass was the only thing that could destroy them? I don't recall any previous reference to Valarian steel being able to do the trick as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭Stillhouette

When that woman told her daughters she would be right behind them I knew something would happen but nothing on that scale. Intense stuff

I'm guessing it's because it's Valyrian steel, maybe I'm making this up but didn't an earlier episode mention that dragons have something to with the making of Valyrian steel and when they died no more could forged?

All in all this was a great episode, not seeing the slow start that a few mentioned, I thought the Dany and Tyrion scenes were gripping, wanted much more of that.

Ah right, that tinkles a bell somewhere in the canyons of my mind lol. I loved the surprised look on both Jon's and the White Walker's face when his sword parried the Walker's weapon and didn't shatter.

That's from season 4 of the blu ray boxset. Mormont says Valyrian steel may have been blasted with dragonfire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,673 ✭✭✭mahamageehad

Yeah, Valyrian steel is forged with dragon fire. So with dragon glass and dragon steel being able to kill them then one can only assume that the dragons themselves will be able to kill them. We didn't know that the steel could kill them but then again, we didn't know the dragonglass could either until Sam used it. They've only managed to kill 2 of em in recorded history so theoretically loads of stuff could kill em!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,022 ✭✭✭lbj666

Those last 20 minutes were as good as the Battle of the Blackwater and Castle Black for me, if not better. Stunning and terrifying in equal measure.

The implications here are immense - they're essentially fighting an army that will never dwindle.

My. God. What an amazing episode - I thought it was somewhat boring in the first half, but then.. wow.

It does make you wonder if further down the line we might see Dany & the Dragons have a crucial role to play in the impending war with the Walkers and their zombie hordes. I loved the way the Giant was just swatting them off and squashing them left right and centre btw!

My sweet baby Jesus what an episode that was and its only episode 8.Thion finally telling Sansa that he didnt kill her brothers was hupe step in the story imo.Kept looming throughout the season.
The last 15 minutes was just epicness , i don't think anyone saw an actual appearance of the white walker showing up let alone a full onslaught and that Jons Sword is able to kill them. That white walker had a wtf moment on him when his spear clashed with Jon Sword. The fact that next weeks episode is the ninth has me at the edge of my seat as to what the big moment will be.

Is there only one Giant? or is he the only giant who teamed up with the Wildlings? I thought when they attacked the Wall, there was more than one giant? Where are the rest of the Giants?

Also how fcuked are everybody if the White Walkers manage to kill a giant and have him come back as a zombie? Fcuking Zombie Giants = Game Over

Side note: How pissed are the producers of the Walking Dead? The GOT producers just stole their schtick, the Walking Dead just becomes redundant now and there is a possibility of Fcuking Zombie Giants!!!

Well two Giants died in the attack on the Wall
I'm guessing there are more somewhere though

I was thinking that alright, GoT even does zombies better than them, and I mean, zombies is all they have :pac:

Just in case it was bugging anyone else as to where they'd seen the new Wilding Chieftainess before - she was Katrine, the TV news anchor/reporter on Borgen.

    I wouldn't have minded if she'd stuck around a little longer.......:pac:

Would probably cost a lot to CG a whole clan of giants. Although it would be cool to see.

Disagree, I thought was a savage episode before we even went North

    Tyrion and Dany getting acquainted
Poor Old Ser Friendzone getting rejected yet again- joining the fighting pits
Theon telling Sansa that Bran and Rickon are alive
Ramsay and 20 men sneaking out to attack Stannis - opportunity for Sansa to escape? Ramsay will prob bring along Theon/Reek, like he does on his hunts
Ayra storyline starting to gather momentum
Cersei going insane in prison - interesting that Kevin is back on the Small Council, that is Lancels father right?

Then we all know about how epic North was.

For the amount of Plot Development and Action combined, only "The Children" can match it as "best episode" contender imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,268 ✭✭✭IsMiseMyself

Fantastic episode. The first four or so episodes weren't up to scratch, I think, and the Dorne stuff has been an epic fail but this made it worth it. The next two should be phenomenal as well.

They even made Dany interesting! Pairing her with Tyrion has already done wonders for the character. I forsee a future where Jon or Dany fly those dragons into battle to kill the White Walkers. The White Walkers were a bit too zombie/28 Days Later for my liking (woulda rather seen more humans like the dead kids in their ranks than the skeleton things), but really chilling stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,064 ✭✭✭irishfeen

That was phenomenal television - absolutely brilliant! .. the last 20 minutes were like the epic battles in the Lord of the Rings - who would have thought television could ever go hand in hand with Hollywood blockbusters.

The four horsemen on the hills was a phenomenal visual. The white walker arc is so good. Thought Jon Snow becoming more of a hero figure each season would get dull but it most certainly has not.

Tyrion seems to be the first person to reign in her entitlement with his practicality and she seems to have enough cop-on to take it into account.
Everybody else has served her, even if it was against their better judgement, whereas he seems willing to challenge her. I honestly had fairly low expectations of what their meeting would amount to, but it's started much better than I would have hoped.

After hearing Tyrion speaking so fondly of Varys makes me want to go back and revisit some of their scenes from the first two seasons. Outside of Jon Snow, Varys is probably the most altruistic character in the realm.

Wildling lady is hot, pity she got dragged into the army of the undead so soon.

Loved the scene with the skeleton/zombie head coming through the wall looking around with an arrow still buried between it's eyes.

Also the scene where the undead flung themselves off the cliff, then rose up, panic stations :pac:

Any scene with Tyrion, thumbs up.

Looking forward to seeing how Ramsey fares against Stannis, surely with a small band he can only mean to cut off the head of the army rather than kill the body.

Is really well done the way the show's treatment towards The White Walkers mirrored the people of Westeros attitude: the show didn't give them much airtime despite it being said that they the greatest threat, and very few Kings answer The Nightswatch when they looking for reinforcements (albeit against Wildlings rather than WW)

    argh, such a good episode!

Great episode especially the last bit and the scenes between Dany and Tyrion. He can really play against every other character he's so good. Love how he didn't just bow down completely to Dany. I was a little bit confused at the end though; are the white walkers unable to march through water? Is that why they didn't follow Jon Snow?

I was really terrified Jon Snow would die, especially when Sam said "He always comes back". This tv show has made me question every seemingly innocent comment. :pac: I knew something bad was bound to happen when that wildling was putting her child in the boat and told her she would be right behind her!

Did Cersi really kill Robert!? I had nearly forgotten how he had died until they mentioned she was on trial for that. Why doesn't Cersi son, the king just eliminate those men? What use is it starving himself. He's the king. Surely he can just order the faith to be disbanded?
