Brilliant episode last night, the giant made short work of the undead, useful ally to have in a fight.

Did anyone notice that the giant asked "the fcuk you looking at?" instead of "what the fcuk are you looking at?" My suspension of disbelief extends far enough to accommodate dragons and walking corpses, but I simply cannot tolerate the North American bastardisation of the English language in a fantasy setting. The same thing happens constantly in The Witcher 3. It makes my skin crawl.

Otherwise it was a fantastic episode. I haven't been enjoying this season at all but that really whet my appetite for what's to come.

I thought it was Jon's uncle Benjen who had been turned into a white walker at first. He has been gone for ages and I can't even remember when he was last mentioned. A showdown as a zombie against his nephew seems made for TV. Hope he's still alive though.

Decent episode apart from most of the action at the end which was quite tedious, though the fight scene with Jon Snow and the whitewalker was well done. The lack of Littlefinger and Varys is always disappointing and invariably leads to a poorer quality episode, but any episode with Roose Bolton (by far the best character in the show along with Jon Snow) is worth watching. The less said about the mad queen of Mereen and Tyrion's dour conversation the better, which was then somehow trumped by the meeting of the wildlings and Jon Snow (just compare that scene to any conversation between Mance Rayder and Jon to see what I mean). The battle scene was exciting for about 10 seconds before it became a monotonous uninteresting affair more suited to a show not on the same level as GoT. Other than Jon's sword standing up to the whitewalker, there was no moment similar to the ending of the season premier when I really thought wow, this is why I watch this show..referring of course to Jon's merciful arrow through Mance's heart. The tension and excitement in that scene alone for me was greater than anything on show in this week's episode, especially the ending scenes. Hoping for such scenes in the final two episodes, and praying to the faith of the seven that that is the last of the battles beyond the wall for this season at least.

I somehow manage to disagree with almost every single point there. But hey, it's A Game of Opinions.

Just watched the latest episode of Thronecast. Carice Van Houten (Melisandre) is obviously quite a pleasure on the eye but bygod was she an awful guest. She barely contributed anything.

I've sympathy for her-It is stupid having cast members on and asking them about what IS going to happen - they obviously can't answer without giving away spoilers
What should be asked when those guests are on is about their characters development and all that- they are put in an unfair situation when asked leading questions about plot

Superb episode. The production values on the last twenty minutes alone were jaw dropping. Personally I generally find zombies just an absurd concept as an enemy in a story (so have always worried about the end game for GoT) but the ferocity and sense of peril throughout that battle was breathtaking. It just kept going and going and getting more spectacular as the minutes clicked by. You can see they threw a huge chunk of the season budget at that. Which perhaps explains if not excuses the "Xena" feel, as someone put it, to some earlier episodes.

...Cersei going insane in prison - interesting that Kevin is back on the Small Council, that is Lancels father right?
Yes, Tywin's brother and Lancels dad and none too impressed with his son's new found faith. I don't know if it's done more cleverly in the books but it does beggar belief that, even if Tommen is too timid and inexperienced to send the troops in to rescue his mother and wife, that Kevin would not have done so immediately as his first act as hand of the king. Family honour and all that.
    What a fecking episode.

And not a cracking pair of Dornish tits in sight
Thats no way to talk about Jaime and Bronn!

It was the "Pfft! Good luck with that!" from the soon-to-be-zombie wildling woman that threw me. The episode script was so good otherwise, you wonder how they just let this stuff slip in.

Stannis mentioned dragon glass is obsidian which is a real volcanic rock type.

Think its also known as obsidian, its molten rock cooled or something. Dragons can create it but it also occurs naturally.

Yeah I do agree, the actors are put in an awkward situation but many of them (Liam Cunningham off the top of my head) have dealt with it really well and contributed to the discussion without putting their foot in it. She just didn't open her mouth.

Was wondering to myself do the Nights Watch have an estimate how many white walkers exist.

Four horsemen of the Apocalypse and we saw four horseman on the hill.

I'm sure there are more but a handful or hundreds.

I don't think it was ever answered on the show. We'll find out someday I guess, maybe next season

See that's the storyline I'm most interested in... mainly because it nullifies all other storylines. Who gives a **** who's king of the seven kingdoms when a goddamn zombie snowman army is marching south?

that's the reason I watched the whole of season 1 and when season two ended with the army marching, I was hooked again. that episode was my favourite of all them.

Remember a couple of seasons back the white walker touched the baby left out for them, turning his eyes frosty?

What's the story there, is that how new fully fledged walkers come about I wonder? Or just food?

    Ah, Ramsey...

In a story renowned for the moral ambiguity of its characters he is refreshingly black and white. Ramsey is simply evil and enjoys it. The casting of Iwan Rheon for the part was inspired. It somehow makes Ramsey so much more sinister that he happens to be good looking and effortlessly charming when he wants to be. Darkly charismatic.

He gets compared to Joffrey but is so much more dangerous. Joffrey, while equally sadistic, was always limited by his weakness, cowardice and stupidity. Ramsey is strong, brave and intelligent. Only Joffrey's unearned position of power made him formidable. Ramsey came from relatively nothing to become one of the most powerful men in Westeros through his own cunning and brutality. Joffrey was the most common sort of bully: if you stood up to him he wilted. Ramsey is the worse, rarer sort of bully: if you stand up to him he hits you harder.

Roose, while more restrained, is even more terrifying in his own understated way. He is the only person in the world Ramsey seems to be afraid of, which probably tells you all you need to know about Roose Bolton.

Agree 100% - he's an absolute bollox but I love him nonetheless.

Joffreys sword was given to Thomen after his funeral. Little finger has the dagger thats made from it too.

That dagger used to belong to Tyrion, so therefor the lannisters had more than one valyrian steel blade

We only saw 4 or 5 of the white walker head honchos including the nights king, but the rest could have been lined up further along the cliff. If you look back at the last of crasters sons scene there are 12 or 13 gathered in back ground as the baby is brought to the alter, they are all supposed to be the main guys with the nights king being the boss man.
So either they were there too or they were god forbid they were elsewhere up to something else.

No that was a regular steel dagger, Littlefinger said Tyrion took it from him in a game of cards a few nights before it was used by the asassin supposedly sent by Tyrion to finish Bran off.

A Valyrian dagger would buy you a castle in Westeros. The Lannisters had no Valyrian steel, Tywin was supposed to have offered fortunes to all the other houses and had agents out searching for one for the Lannisters for years before they got their hands on Ned Starks Ice and melted it down to make Jamies and Joffreys swords:

It was Valyrian steel, further explanation from books but nothing that will be covered in the series:
stolen from King Robert's collection by Joffrey and given to the man he sent to kill Bran to "put him out of his misery" (i.e. trying to impress his "father").
