At this stage I needn't concern myself with frosty paths this winter, seeing as I've that many pinches of salt tucked away :(

I've gone from desperate for NX info to being fine with waiting.

I saw something similar a few days ago (or even yesterday :D) about that they would've shown it, but chose not to. Not sure where though. Just when I was browsing.

March 17 does make since, since Nintendo released the GBA SP, DS, 3DS and New 3DS in March/February so it still counts. On the other hand, I wouldn't be too surprised if it were delayed again and we got a potentially huge blow out at E3 2017 for a holiday 17 release.

I wonder if part of the 'secret' thing they working on may be the storage of the game. It's increasingly looking like it will be some form of cartridge based games rather than disc, going on previous rumours and the Gamestop investor meeting a few weeks back. That form of physical media is now so different than it was back in the N64 days regarding physical and memory sizes and the roadblock that caused with developers.

I still think a cart is going to be like a PS4/XB1 disk, so much in those cases is downloaded in the form of a Day1 update, the disk is just a key to unlock content online.
It would be easy to do the same with a cart, but then offline Nintendo gamers are cream crackered.

Would be interesting, regarding the storage suggestion Corholio, if Nintendo managed to pretty much banish loading times from their new console with a new fast storage system.
Forget VR or 4K, a system that limited blasted loading screens would be incredible, like going back to the cart days in a different way.

I'd love plug and play. No updates, no major loading. Just pop the cart in, turn it on and go. Maybe with an odd blow in between.

Marriage is like a neo geo sea cd, full of awful loading. Or is it more akin to a virtual boy, leads to headaches. Or like sega systems of the mid 90s, plenty of expensive add ons

I don't get headaches from my VB!
But the Neo Geo CD loading is appalling!

Marriage can be like either owning a SNES, full of joy, or a CDi, full of thoughts like "this cost me a fortune but has turned out to be nothing but a disappointment"

Miyamoto Updates Fans On Status of Pikmin 4

We chat with Shigeru Miyamoto about the whereabouts of the previously confirmed Pikmin 4, learning that it’s not something that the company has had time to work on lately.

With less than a year before Nintendo launches its new console, codenamed the NX, there’s still a lot that gamers don’t know about the platform. More importantly, outside of the fact that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be arriving on NX hardware, not all that much is known about the games that fans can expect from the Big N on the system. At this point, one of the more obvious additions to the hardware’s library would be the previously confirmed Pikmin 4, but there’s been radio silence on the subject in recent months.

After Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that Pikmin 4 was “close to completion” during E3 2015, fans have been wondering just where and when it may end up. We were fortunate enough to have the chance to speak with Miyamoto during E3 2016, where we asked a medley of questions to the famed game creator. Curious about the lack of information on the latest Pikmin, however, we couldn’t help but inquire about the status of the project.
“Yes, you are right, and we’re working on [Pikmin 4]. So, you know, when we’re in development we have to create a list of priorities and it has been hard to kind of fit that into that list, but we’re hopefully starting to see that on the list now.”

Understandably, Nintendo has been hard at work on developing a new console, and presumably there is a laundry list of software that takes priority over the likes of the Pikmin franchise. While perhaps not an ideal statement in the eyes of gamers that have been waiting on the return of Captain Olimar and co., it does make sense if Ninty has plans on pursuing a broader consumer base with its new platform using its absolute biggest franchises right from the get-go.

Now, if the title was truly nearing completion a year ago, then which priorities did the firm place ahead of the game? It’s known that a brand new Mario title is in the works, but there are a number of other possibilities that could have uprooted the firm’s initial Pikmin 4 plans. Mobile game development – coupled with plans for a major a push into animation – are likely culprits in terms of distracting Miyamoto, but there’s little question that the numerous studios at Nintendo’s disposal would have had to have been assigned other priority projects in order to pull their attention away from the game.

Just what those titles are will remain a mystery for now, but Nintendo can’t be all that far away from pulling the curtain back on its lineup of games for NX – the console is set to launch in March 2017, after all.

To me that sounds like Pikmin 4 is going to be an NX launch game.

You have to imagine Nintendo are in crunch mode right now, with NX what, 8 months away? To get it ready, so maybe they haven't the time for pikmin right this second.

I presume Pikmin 4 started life as a Wii U game...it might have been shelved for the Wii U at some point, & required a fair amount of work to move it to the NX platform...

This thread has become the Nintendo equivalent of the Half Life 3 thread in the games forum, I see a new post, click on the link with some excitement only to find that the "chat" or "new information" is bugger all and does little to illuminate the new machine in any way!

I mean, shouldn't that be "There's nothing anyone outside of Nintendo know about the platform".
They say that secrets are hard things to keep, but those NDAs must be scary things because no one seems to be opening up about the NX at all, aside from some vague "industry insider" bullsh1t.

There was the patent released the other day that Nintendo had registered back in 2015:

    original.jpg

All the news sites are reporting this as 'proof' that points to NX having a handheld element.

Aye same here. But at least our misery will end soon enough, unlike those poor souls waiting on HL3.

What stages are you dividing your time with now?

When do we imagine the big reveal will be?
We're already half way through 2016 and the blasted NX will be out in 9 months!!
    Tokyo Game Show?
    Dublin Wedding Expo?
My 45th birthday in January 2017????

Knowing Nintendo, the single advertisement for the NX will air during Sundays Fair City Omnibus episode....

Sunday afternoon. We're all sitting around playing Twilight Princess or tending the garden in Animal Crossing. Nintendo send out a tweet of a youtube video with NX reveal, games, and proper release date. It's titled 'nx reveal nintendo lol'

I can see the badly edited Youtube videos now...
Countless Nintendo fans... who happen to be boys... watching an NX advert bookended at one side with "Jaysus Mary, you got knocked up again?" and on the other an advert for a sale in Arnotts....

    Watching things they'd never know.....

So... Pokemon Go is a crazy success for Nintendo, and its not even out everywhere yet. Wonder if it means anything for NX.

I mean apart from the fact Nintendo properties can still connect with people.
