Doesn't bother me at all that the console is out next year rather than this - gives them more time to make it more attractive as a launch purchase. To be honest I'd prefer Zelda just comes out on NX at this stage, I want the game to be as good as it can be and not be compromised having two versions of it. I'm happy with the library of Wii-U games as it is so cba if they don't release anything else this year.

Don't worry guys, Nintendo filler has you covered. Did you like amiibo festival and mario tennis HD last year? No? Well we got more of that so deal with it.

    Nintendo at E3.

I'm happy to bide my time until next year, but Nintendo's stock will take a big hit today. Investors won't be happy.

I'm guessing e3 will be a short prerecorded thingy again. They better tease some good stuff...

The more I'm reading the worse everything sounds. E3? Why even bother showing up? My only hope is that amiibo will be dead by next March and so won't be a feature of NX.

I'm less annoyed about the NX delay (although I'll hold my hands up and admit I was wrong about a certain 2016 launch) then I am about Zelda. Skyward Sword was 2010! And zelda was supposed to come out like, before starfox originally. Now it'll be a year after!

I wonder if Zelda was delayed because of NX and wanting to launch on both consoles at the same time. Doesn't seem that way but maybe.

Also I wonder if this is Nintendo reacting to the PS4 Neo news.

And when they say NX won't be at E3, does that mean at all or does it mean it might be in the Direct but not physically there

I was really hoping I'd have another new console by Christmas this year. Real shame that it and Zelda will be delayed until March.

I guess the latter makes sense because Zelda will be a console seller in itself. Not entirely sure why they wouldn't just tease a couple of images at E3 though.

The amount of casual/hardcore gamers who watch E3 on a yearly basis is insane and a console reveal would have sparked some excitement for months to come.

Even if they just had the bloody controller I'd be happy out. If it's a Mario/Zelda/Metroid E3 fest then I'll be extremely satisfied but it's a big mistake not showing off the NX imo.

    Much sadness.
And I think missing this Christmas means that the ever better line up on the PS4/Xbox One as well as the ever improving tech specs means the NX may well have no one left to sell to, aside from the fans, and by the sounds of some of the voices here even they are losing patience.
    Pity.

The fact that they are withholding Zelda purely to coincide with the NX is a kick in the teeth for WiiU owners, especially early adopters.

I don't see why they wouldn't release the WiiU version when it is ready. It wouldn't hurt the sales of the NX.

Apparently the NX will be revealed at an event sometime this year according to reports in Japan.

I don't mind the 2017 launch much as it was slightly rumoured anyway, but the E3 plans are strange even though the event is being passed over by other big companies. Why would 1 game be the only one playable? I know the future lineup is pretty barren but there's still a good few games to come out for 3DS, and less so Wii U. Will be interesting to say the least to see how Nintendo plan to use the rest of 2016.

Is it literally only zelda gonna be playable or only Wii U game? Surely metroid FF would be there? Pokemon? Err, whatever they have on the docket?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

I wonder if the rumoured hardware from Sony and Microsoft changed Nintendo's plans. The Zelda only presence on the floor isn't a bad idea in theory because of the scale of the franchise and it being the anniversary, if that was also accompanied by a sufficient amount of game releases in a Direct, Treehouse play etc. But the game lineup isn't there for that at all it seems. Nintendo's non presence at E3 isn't surprising because of it's falling status and Nintendo had already made their position clear from a few years ago, but unless there's a quite a bit they have planned that we haven't heard about it could be a difficult year for them. I'd expect some sort of announcement in the near future regarding all of this because they know this stuff spreads quickly after shareholder meetings.

I saw people on neogaf speculating that they must have been planning to show off NX and games at this E3 (even if the launch was always March 2017 ish) but something must have gone wrong and so we're getting a load of ****e. Be interesting to know what it was.

Apparently we'll have all NX info by the end of the year, so... 8 month wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,407 ✭✭✭Pac1Man

I think it's safe to say that the NX was announced waay too early. It won't be out for basically another year at the earliest.

They risk losing momentum by not sharing something about it at E3.

So Nintendo just did a "Nintendo thing" again.

They do love to launch their consoles in Feb-April Window. Pretty sure New 3DS was launched then too. From one point of view its good, as by March a lot of people can breath again after Xmas spending marathon. From other point of view: "Really Nintendo? The holiday season when everyone would just buy out all stock you got is not good enough for you?"

My interest dropped a bit, knowing we wount see it for another year. Looks like its going to be a PS4 Neo as xmas present this year.

    Life is so unfair! :D

    Nah, I understand your frustration.

I bought an Xbox One and a new3DS recently enough, so I suppose a 2017 launch will help avoid domestic conflict. I would have looked to buy NX day one, whereas I can live without an upgraded PS4/One for now.

If NX is a hybrid, it also justifies my 3ds purchase a bit more as it will get a longer run as being the main handheld.

    Annoyed about Zelda though.

Yup, it was also five years ago. Which is mental. I still kinda feel like I'm waiting for this gen to start a-proper, yet here we are, chatting about a follow-up to the Wii-U.

Does the NX even count as a gen 9 console, or is it just Nintendo trying to be competitive with other gen 8 systems?

I have a big soft spot for Nintendo. As a collector, Nintendo consoles & games are my go-to for purchases. I grew up during the 16-bit era, & while I had both a Snes & Megadrive, the Snes ultimately stole my heart. They've created some of the best consoles, best games, & best gaming experiences of all time over the years. I do have to wonder though, what the hell they're at half the time.

I'm personally relieved the NX won't be this year, simply because there's too much other stuff to be buying (PS4 Neo & Morpheus, I'm looking at you)...but without that personal angle, what are they at missing the Xmas window? There's no finer time to unwrap a new console than on Christmas day. They're still excluding themselves form the race that everyone else is in & trying to win, because they like to be different. That's the problem though, & that's the kind of thinking that brought us the Wii U...a massively wasted opportunity that was, squandered by Nintendo on nearly every level. The whole company needs to huge shake up, before they really do bury themselves.

I'd say it is because of the PS4 Neo thing. they probably don't want to launch with a less powerful system again so are holding off. Though what makes me doubt that is it would involve more R&D to upgrade the system at this point

Agreed, I find it very unlikely that the specs of the NX aren't set in stone by now.

I think there's manufacturing delays. No proof, just a hunch and I thought I heard rumours a while back.

It's rumoured that it and the PS4.5 will be using AMD chips so that might factor into it.

I'm pissed off. I have nothing on the horizon to buy on Wii U now.

You don't want paper mario? Or that fire emblem thing? Or... whatever else? Thats it isn't it?

When asked why Nintendo wasn’t launching the NX in time for this year’s big holiday season, Kimishima explained that Nintendo wanted to make sure there were games to go along with the NX.

Like I'm not that upset about the NX delay, cos thats fine. I am upset about the fact we've got a year of barren release schedules for the 3DS and Wii U while we wait. 2015 wasn't great either.

Paper Mario looks cack. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not the only one disappointed here?

If you're referring to yet another crossover game, no interest whatsoever. I really REALLY hope there's some surprise announcements for 2016 releases because what I see right now, 2016 is a terrible year for Nintendo owners.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 33,733 ✭✭✭✭Myrddin

Wanting to support the NX with games at launch is very logical & understandable...but the difference between Christmas & March/April in terms of sales is massive. They should have planned things to coincide with a Christmas '16 release. To miss that window, I feel is Nintendo just being Nintendo again, rather than the all new, ready to battle with the big guys Nintendo I wanted to see. No doubt the NX will be a smash hit & we'll all look like fools, but still :o

No I'm hugely disappointed (with paper mario and Nintendo in general really)

The worst part is I have a sneaking suspicious that E3 will be either stuff that gets delayed, or filler. Metroid FF, bleh. Paper Mario, bleh. That fire emblem thing, bleh. Possibly some third party stuff and indies? Then Zelda U (yay), Pokemon Sun and Moon (yay), and then we'll get the filler, whatever it is. Or we'll get no filler, and they'll leave with us nowt.

    I'm pretty dissapointed.

Mostly how I feel too. I don't mind about the delay of the system, even if it misses the holiday season, but going through a similar or even worse spell of not enough games is disappointing. I think missing the Christmas season is Nintendo wanting to have a big launch and try to not make the same mistakes of the early Wii U campaign. It's not ideal of course and there'll be no excuse if the system isn't supported by the games come next March.
