Nintendo UK ad. Thankfully nowhere near as annoying as the Japanese clips. Would like to see how they'd make that baby game look appealing. Don't think it's possible.

Who needs more communication or horsepower.......it does that 'click' sound when you slide in the Joy-Cons while it's running! :pac:

A look at all the available icons you can select(apart from your Mii) upon starting up your Switch.

I'd imagine there'll be loads more. Maybe some will become available to use when/if you buy specific games. And you know that there'll be themes just like 3DS so they could be included in those. Then there's amiibo. Each of them likely has their own icon.

Lots and lots of missing info alright, and not the typical launch prep for a console.
By now there should be a media blitz, from kiosks to previews in everything that accepts print.
Even Edge, which had the Switch on the cover, really didn't have much more to say than was already known.
A Direct would really help calm the nerves so it would.
Having the console on more TV than just Fallon in the States would be even better!

Big question.... (which I don't think has been asked...)

Who's going for the Neon joy cons?

Neon set with the switch. And I'm getting a separate grey set for those more 'black tie' roof parties.

As a Nintendo fan and father I would be compelled to beat someone with a plank if they wore that jacket, it's hideous!

    Janet digs the neon set...
Despite this I'm getting them anyway.
    Fcuk you Janet

Going to miss the lot of you here as well. Ahh the heady games of Cod, Mario Kart etc...fun times.
I am honestly raging though. The ps4 opened my eyes to being able to enjoy the social part of gaming a lot more and made me think about the ten years or so before then that others were enjoying that sort of thing on other consoles.
I honestly can't go back to not being able to chat to mates as soon as I turn on the machine no matter what game I'm playing.
Don't get me wrong; I'd fekin love a go of it, but I'm not willing to go back a decade.

You know you can own Nintendo consoles without buying a Switch...
Just head on over to the Arcade and Retro forum....
Go on... It's a button press away...
Gameboys, Famicom's, N64s, GCs... Even the occasional Virtual Boy....
Ditch these losers... Mwa ha ha ha ha!

I tend to default to Luigi, just like the face plate on my N3DS.
But then there's MetaKnight... He's a bad MF...

Look at Tom Nook there... The little tyrant...
Waving out... come on in... have some laughs... here's a house... we're going to have a great time... pay me my bells or the boys come by and break your legs.

Not gonna lie... I can't tell the difference between 720p, 1080p or what have you. If games can run smoothly and not crash then I'm happy out.

    Power this, power that. Blah.

If a game is fun, I couldn't give a shiny shíte what resolution it does or doesn't run on my screen.

    Tedious argument among gamers imo.

Yeah I have agree with you. Neogaf became a no go zone as all the comments were concerned about frame rates etc.

If the gameplay is good, then I'll buy it.

This is an ongoing debate in the broader church of gaming as a whole, regardless of format.
And possibly why the real creativity, on the other two current consoles, appears to be in the Indie scene where gameplay, narrative and innovation is not defined by how photorealistic the visuals are, but rather budget led to bring us Thumper or Beyond Eyes.
I like to think Nintendo has this sense baked in, but I would like to see more Indie titles, like Soma, making their way to the Switch.

In Nintendos defence they make some of the best looking games on underpowered machines in comparison to other gaming companies. I was gonna say the competition but they are not in competition with Nintendo as Nintendo are amazing what they do.

Mario 3d world is stunning I think. All the Nintendo titles on the wii u were gorgeous

I may pissue and moan about the price but I absolutely love everything Nintendo stand for and everything they do

I wouldn't say I notice a difference hugely, but then a better looking game is a better looking game right? I have a 4K TV for my PS4 Pro, and I was playing the latest call of duty game on it which is supposed to be boosted on Pro, and although it looked very nice indeed I couldn't have told you how much better it looked than on standard hardware, or a non 4K TV.

Graphics and framerate wise the Switch is already top notch as far as I'm concerned with how it supposedly fixes the duplicate frame issue in Mario Kart 8, which has been driving me nuts in singleplayer on the U since I got it. Despite that, MK8 looks really great still on the U, one of the prettiest racers I've played, so the pacing fix and a resolution bump for it on the Switch will make it look fantastic.

It may not be able to include the best, or even near the best in some cases, technical pushes for everything, but it's a real good bump in hardware, especially for portable mode, so as someone who likes to max their eye-candy options on PC, I'm really looking forward to the variety of art Nintendo and others produce for this.

I'm one of those people who will sit in front of an XBO vs PS4 vs PC comparison of graphics and say - what's the big difference?

The games on the Wii U looked gorgeous and there were some incredible games there. The Switch is a big jump up so that will do for the next 5 years.

I'm not going to lie to myself. I would love the Switch to be kicking Sony's arse in terms of horsepower. Ever since I was baptised into the Nintendite faithful (N64, I was a late bloomer) my taste in gaming has seen me ghetto-ed for one reason or another. Media too expensive, piracy too difficult, console underpowered, advertising non-existent. I want that moment most tragic bit-players get in a marvel movie, where for one moment it all comes together and their family/country/sentient armchair can be proud of them. Granted, they usually get incinerated immediately after but I want the moment, damnitt!

But I don't own a 4K TV and I'm not going to in the next 5 years or so. "Off TV Play" is the #1 thing I need from a console, and Sony can't give me that at the same price point, plus I'm a nut for Zelda and Mariokart. I'm confident I will not regret this decision... but I know that part of me is going to look at all those 4 month old AAA PS4 titles being sold for a tenner in Tesco beside 3 year old Mario games going for €20 over the original RRP and think "Why, Banjo??? WHY DID YOU DO IT AGAIN???"

I think (assuming it was a trade off) I'd rather have the switch we have now, than any other kind of powerful switch that cost a lot more/was shackled to the tv. Mainly cos if I wanted a boring powerful home console, I'd play my PS4. As the switch is, I'll probably buy a lot of third party stuff on the switch as opposed to the PS4, cos the hybrid thing is just perfect for me.

Playing through Uncharted 3 on the PS4 on and off at the mo and, to be honest, the visuals act as little more than a pretty distraction from the pretty shallow gameplay, gameplay they broadly cut and pasted into The Last of Us, which itself shone on its narrative, acting and visuals rather than gameplay.
I'm all for games that look incredible, but these days that's as likely to be Rez on the PS4 or Dark Souls 2 on the XB1, whose appeal is firmly rooted in mechanics even more than HDR or lens flare.

    The PS4 is boring?

Fingers crossed those 3rd party games you like actually make it to the Switch, aren't overpriced and aren't inferior compared to other versions. :)

I would have loved for Nintendo to make a 'boring home console' as you put it - one that has decent specs to allow those brilliant Nintendo developers more freedom to create even better games. One that doesn't have silly design decisions like only have 32GB of space or needing a mobile phone app to chat online.

The hybrid thing that makes it perfect for you is the very thing that hobbles the machine for those of us that have zero interest in portability.

I do actually find the PS4 boring. Maybe because I have a PC but I think it's mostly triple A really gas failed to grab me the last few years and I've been playing more indie and b tier gamed because they actually hold my interest.

    PS4 is boring...

    Wow

I'm sorry guys but that's nonsense about not being able to see the difference with 720p to 1080p and 4K etc, I would suggest a trip to specsavers if you can not distinguish it on the TV in front of you...

I have a PS4 Pro, and a family gaming 4K PC in the house, on a 4K TV, I definitely see the resolution bump...

I'm not buying the Switch for resolution or any of them things, I'm buying it generally for Nintendo titles and being their next home machine to play their games on...

Portability is a nice bonus for me, I'd consider bringing it away with me on a holiday or something...

Wii U games look fantastic on 1080P TVs, and Nintendo IPs will always tend to look amazing...

The excuses some people are ponying up here for anyone who utters a bad word against Nintendo is quite frankly embarrassing....

We know now it's basically a Tegra x1 processor, exactly what Eurogamer thought, it's not very powerful, we never were buying into it for power in the first instance though....

I'll miss dedicated handhelds as I feel they are on the way out with this system. Maybe Nintendo will make another one but if this is successful there won't be a need to.
