We are promoted to Division A for 2016 and enter the European repechage competition in a few weeks time against sides from Division A and world series.

Move on now to Lisbon for the Europe Repechage on the weekend of July 18-19.

There is still another round in Division A and that will decide the final make-up of the 12 in Lisbon.

As it stands, the Repechage would contain Poland, Ukraine, Latvia, Italy, Romania, Georgia, Lithuania, Belgium, Portugal, Germany and Russia along with Ireland.

And then if we win that we are through to Rio 2016?Or is there another tournie aftrwards? Because if so then maybe im being ignorant and naive but those nations shouldn't really trouble Ireland.

Looking at the rules, it appears that the top three in the European Repechage go into the Final Olympic Qualification Tournament which will probably be held towards the end of the year or next which would contain countries from all around the world who haven't yet qualified.

I have seen Portugal on the main sevens circuit and they aren't too bad at all. We really don't know how good this Ireland side is until they face some competition.

No. If we qualify from European repechage we enter the world repechage and there is a considerable few of those who will trouble us in European competition as they have a good bit of 7s pedigree and 15s rugby pedigree and will certainly trouble us.

The final Olympic qualification tournament has to be very late this year/early next year as Asian/African/Oceanic competitions are not being played until November

I think top 3 qualifies for the final world qualification tournament.

Most of them are in the Grand Prix series and have far more experience that the Irish side.

Portugal & Russia are handy enough and I am sure Italy have a few ringers in their squad. When is the next round of games for Ireland? Does the season finish up in the summer or continue on?

Italy and Georgia's positioning will be determined following the Exeter leg of grand prix series on July 11/12th which is 2 weeks before the repechage tournament we play in.

Thanks, how do you rate our chances of a top 3 finish? Is there a massive difference in the standard of teams we played today and who we will play?

You would know as much as I do but you have to think it will be a few steps up in quality from divisions C and B.

Women's team have qualified for the European Repechage tournament which is July 18th in Lisbon. They must finish in top 3 to go to world competition for a shot at Olympic spot
Pool A Spain, Germany, Italy & Denmark
Pool B Ireland, Portugal, Belgium & Romania
Pool C Netherlands, Ukraine, Finland & Sweden

Women's Sevens Dublin will be held in UCD on the 22nd and 23rd of August.

Good to see this being held here. Would be great to see Irish side getting a world series place

While all the teams to compete in the mens European repechage are not confirmed the groups are.
Ireland will be in group A with the teams that finish 5th, 10th and 11th in the Grand Prix series
    Group B is 6th 9th, 12th and Latvia and Group C is Poland, Ukraine, 7th, 8th

Germany, Georgia and Italy are currently in 5th, 10th, 11th and teams will be confirmed after the Exeter 7s next weekend

    Quarters tomorrow are
    France v Wales
    England v Lithuania
    Russia v Spain
    Germany v Georgia

    Bowl Semis are
    Portugal v Romania
    Italy v Belgium

Too hard at this stage to say how things will end up with respect to overall positions and who we will meet in European repechage

Two teams that impressed me were Russia who whipped Wales and Lithuania who scored a brilliant last second try to beat Italy. They looked good in the other two matches they played and have a few tanks in their team. Plus Germany who also looked very impressive.

The winners of the quarters will be France, England, Russia and Germany.

Think Spain may beat Russia but agree on the other quarters.
Seb Fromm, currently playing AIL w/ Trinity has looked good enough for the Germans...

It should be interesting. Russia beat Georgia and Wales fairly well and didn't play a few of their front line players in the Georgia match. Also they beat Belguim but that isn't anything to speak off. I watched them in the world series playoff match in Hong Kong and when they had to went up a few gears.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,358 ✭✭✭FrannoFan

Russia looked good. No surprise they have embraced it with it an Olympic sport.
    Germany were good as well.

I got it right with quarters.....
France, England, Spain and Germany all into semis and those results mean France are through to Rio and Spain have the global repechage place

As we play 5th, 10th and 11th in our group in Lisbon next week we will play either Germany/Russia, Italy and Georgia
