Not really a viable option to be fair, while it was a nasty thing to do I doubt he thought he would concuss the guy. I think 1 game is probably about fair but an extra one or two games wouldn't have surprised me.

Poor form to appeal it IMO, it was cowardly & had the risk to really hurt someone.

But he did though, and the way he launched himself at White it was clear he intended on hurting him!

I totally agree with you but I don't think the result of the action should dictate the suspension length.

in fairness the afc is that bad they could probably rest half their team for the remainder of games and still stroll the top seed

Tut tut last i saw they werent top seed and hopefully wont be. I see all the NFC bandwagon people have come out of the woodwork

I should preface this by saying I generally actually quite like Gronk. Hes a likable clown. The intention, and the potential damage that could have been caused, should dictate the suspension length here though.

Gronk threw his substantial 120KG weight at force downwards at the back of White's head, when White was lying prone on the field. Well after the play was obviously over too. Gronk could have caused a far more serious injury than a concussion, he should missing far more than one game.

Very scary injury for Ryan Shazier. He hasn't moved his legs and when he rolled onto his back, his legs looked like they were limp. He hit the reciever with the top of his helmet, and his neck looked to buckle. Fingers crossed he's ok

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,510 ✭✭✭Hazys

He's already left the stadium in an ambulance. Jesus christ, i hope he's ok, that could possibly be a life changing injury.

Can only hope that it's not as bad as it looked because it looked really, really bad. Players on both sides clearly distraught.

    Fingers crossed for the lad.

That is stomach churning to watch. Leaves you with a very, very bad feeling in the pit of your stomach.

This game is as filthy as any I've seen. Although the fact that Gruden chose the Shcuster tackle on Burfict to declare a self righteous "shame on you" after spending the whole night making light of all the criticism Burfict gets and generally soft soaping the man who is easily the dirtiest, most cynical and dangerous player in the whole league, was farcical.

To be entirely honest I smiled from ear to ear when I seen Schuster standing over Burfict, then immediately felt bad when I seen him carted off. Its fair to say Burfict brings out the worst in everybody.

To be honest I wouldn't have felt bad if I were you, guys like Burfict or Brandon Meriweather a few years back are far too reckless, dirty and cynical that they're a liability to the careers of those around them and just don't give a f*** about it. So if theirs ends by injury, well that's just too bad.

I'd feel bad for almost anyone who picked up a bad injury, but there are a tiny handful of exceptions and Burfict is up top of that shortlist.

Someone is going to get very badly injured sometime soon in a Steelers Bengals game.

Reports so far that Shazier has a spinal contusion, which is on the very good end of what it looked like it was. Maybe recovery in 24 hours.

Gamewise, another long deficit recovered in the second half.

What happened to Shazier last night makes Gronkowski's 1 game ban for his assault on White a day earlier even more ridiculous. Some thought Shazier might not walk again. White could have been in a similar situation as well.

The NFL needs to start taking head/neck injuries seriously.

    That's just beyond acceptable

    That's deliberate...

Not a dirty hit if you ask me. He throws a great block. Ask anyone who has played the game at any level. Head on a swivel. Also getting laid out by the youngest kid in the league.

It was a completely unnecessary hit. If it wasn't on Bufict, people would be a lot more up in arms about it.

I actually don't think it was dirty, though he did come up a bit right at the end probably enough to draw a flag, but he also very purposefully led with his shoulder and had the block not been made Burfict would have got to Bell before his second burst for what looked like an additional 3-4 yards.

Standing over him was poor form, but it's also got to be said that he's a rookie and the youngest player in the league, and probably just got over-excited about getting a big hit on a LB with a reputation for being dirty, but also for being very tough and hard to do that to.

Not sure why it was getting called a peel back block?

Agreed, it gets bit high, but it's a legal hit.
Michael Floyd had something similar for the Pats last year.

The "I am Godzilla, you are Japan" moment was worthy of taunting flag though.

As I said last night, as bad as juju's hit was, I was much more more disgusted by Gruden commentating. All night, "he gets flak a lot but I love Burfict, tough hard player etc etc" then Burfict gets hit in the exact way that Burfict routinely hurts others (he's done far, far worse) Gruden is straight on his high horse, "shame on you juju, shame on you!". Such a ****ing hypocritical tool.

Saw an interview in the dressing room after where juju was apologising, saying he wasn't doing it maliciously, just wanted to make a stop, didn't even know it was Burfict, etc etc (worth noting Burfict was on for the tackle so it wasn't actually an unnecessary hit as he has been found guilty of).

In the background Antonio Brown is heard shouting "it's called karma!!!". Probably not doing his teammates appeal case any favours there!

should he have left him unblocked to go tackle bell?? he did his job blocking for the runner

Because there's absolutely no alternative between what Juju did, and just letting him by? No middle ground at all?

You block someone without trying to give them a concussion.

Would agree with this. Not necessarily trying to give him a concussion though. Smith showed plenty of ability in blocking all year without it being dirty.

This though was a hard, dirty hit. Burflict was having a brilliant game, that dirty hit may well have won the Steelers the game.

So two things the NFL need to sort out in the off season is what's a catch and what is a dangerous hit and how is gronks stupidity a higher suspension than what iloka did ?
