Iloka has ne game suspension down graded to a fine
So two things the NFL need to sort out in the off season is what's a catch and what is a dangerous hit and how is gronks stupidity a higher suspension than what iloka did ?

Iloka should have a suspension for dangerous play, but the level of calculation, recklessness and filth in what Gronk did was definitely worse. I have no idea why he is appealing it (although looking at Iloka getting away with his filth I suppose I can understand the rationale), but it leaves a very bad taste in my mouth to see someone not even willing to take such an obviously soft penalty for such a horrible action. Danny Trevathan got a longer suspension and what he did wasn't as bad at all.

Doesn't really matter what Jerry thinks but will be very interesting to see how the vote goes at the owners meeting. Will any of them object? If Jones, Kraft and Mara speak out will anyone else add their voice to it??

Will also mean he's there for the next CBA and players will now be in a position of none of them are getting 40m per season for the actions... but goddell is... i find that strange

But fcuk me purple $200m for an extra 5 years of Goddell

Largely down to the explosion of streaming technology, I think Goodell is one of the best examples of 'right place, right time' that there is right now - that's why the NFL has got so popular globally in the last 10-15 years far, far, far, far more than anything Goodell has done.

Not sure where I heard it but apparently a huge percentage (90% ive heard) of his salary is tied up in bonuses relating to the league hitting financial targets

Question is who were the alternative options????

Peter King reckoned that in a good year he'll get ~$20m in a great year he'll hit $30m and there's no chance that he hits $40m unless the league does ridiculously well (in which case the owners will be too busy rolling in their dollars to give a hoot what they pay him)

His estimates are edited out of the article now though so I wonder if someone had a go at him over it.

Very good question, I wasn't around when Goddell was appointed so not sure how the process works or who could challenge him

I dunno; any village that's missing an idiot?
I think most of the owners have the guy in that they control, so why change it. a few owners may disagree, but not enough.
As long as the money keeps coming, they're happy.

I don’t think it’s an issue of someone challenging him. He’ll be gone when the owners think he isn’t making them enough money or he causes them more grief than it’s worth.

Very much blaming Sashi Brown as Hue Jackson is confirmed for 2018.

Is DePodesta still there? He was the baseball analytics guy.

As a browns fan, I am massively surprised Hue Jackson is staying on as it has been an unmitigated disaster.

Perhaps it has come down to Sashi vs Hue and Hue has won out but you can't blame one over the other, it's systemic.

Ultimately Sashi Brown's main problem has been that inability to get that franchise QB and refusing to take either Wentz or Watson in the last two drafts.

Early indications that the Browns have vetted ex Chiefs GM, John Dorsey.

If Brown is gone, I assume the new GM will decide on the rest of the front office when he's appointed. They have 6 extra picks in the 2018 draft.

No more firings as of today of the front office, so we will wait and see.

Isn’t DePodesta above the GM in the org chart?

He was probably the one who fired the GM.

EDIT - Scrap that. No he wasn’t.

I think that while Goodell has clearly helped the league and owners make money, I think his handling of many other issues including player discipline have been poor. I mean the suspension of players takes ages in some cases and deflategate for jaysus sake took months. And as seemed to happen this week the scale for suspensions seems to be less than nailed down.

I don't think he has endeared himself to the fans at all. I mean I don't hear the NBA commissioner this disliked.

Hasn't Sashi drafted fairly well the past two years?

Surely you keep him and fire Hue.
