I wonder why it does not divert to Glasgow, Prestwick or Edinburgh

    Pax in labour apparently.

Makes it more puzzling why they did not divert to a closer airport

Thought the same myself, especially considering how far out they were when they diverted

Would it be to allow time for dumping of fuel??

Most likely reason is due to a longer decent is needed when in labour. shorter decent rates means a climb in cabin pressure suddenly and can cause issues at birth.

Interesting point. Though in this case I'd be more inclined to stick with the landing weight issue. The turnback occurred well NW of Stornoway, even that would have sufficient distance for a shallow descent into GLA.

Fuel dumping is an optional extra on A330s.

    Is this written anywhere?

I would agree with the fuel dumping scenario.

Found it in a medical journal from a few years back, also some airlines have it in the sop's if you know where to look.

sop's if you know where to look.
Not in ours, nor was it ever suggested by consultants nor ICAO. So i would be interested in knowing if any irish airline has this written in their SOP's.

If you use filter and put in Transaero, you will see a line of planes mostly over Germany now, apparently heading for storage. Seen 10 so far. 747's, 767's and 737's.

That's pretty cool (yet sad) final formation for the bankrupt airline as the return to lessors airfield in Spain for storage.

I can't post a screenshot but see 9 on the same flight path(so lined up perfectly) with 3 more to join the formation shortly)

Sad to see a 747 operator go out of business, would have been nice to see the 748 in their colours.

They are landing at Terul Airport which is just used for storage and maintenance. It has no ATC, just an air to air frequency and no Instrumenmt Approach Procedures so aircraft must fly VFR for the final 20-30 miles.

It would be interesting if you were out in your cessna for a sunday morning spin seeing a 747 wizzing past!

There are 15 aircraft due this morning
    1 735
    4 738
    2 763
    1 772
    3 773
    4 744

Flightradar being kind this morning, alot of flights arent listed. Plenty of flights going from the destination - ?

Eg, 2 ryanairs inbound DUB now, NCL-? And MAD-?
