Most importantly, though, is the fact that we'll be in the exact same situation in 30 years. Our population is booming. The Dublin 8 location gives no scope for further expansion. A green field site on the M50 would have made far more sense, to my mind.

Colocation with a large teaching hospital was considered extremely important.

The problem with somewhere on the M50 is that people without private transport (of which there are many, many more in Dublin than the country) will really struggle to get there easily.

Blanch and Tallaght are both teaching hospitals and Tallaght is on the Luas line as well as having multiple bus routes serving it.

I would envisage it as being easier to introduce sufficient support services for the hospital and get the hospital itself right rather than try and select a hospital that has pre-existing support services but a site with less potential.

I really think it's short term thinking and we'll be looking to either move it or open another location in a couple of decades given the birth rates in Ireland.

Well, the NZ flag debate is in full swing, public proposals now being accepted, 4 to be a chosen for a vote at the end of the year, the winner of which will take on the current flag. I'll be definitely voting for change, no need for a colonial flag any longer, which looks like Australia's flag, and a host of other former British colonies to boot.

This guy always cracks me up...

"flig referendum" "in two thousand and fufteen" "looks like the flag on a vegetarian pirate ship"

Agreed I cannot fathom the ddecision to locate in james

Perhaps, but the site wasn't selected on a whim.

Connolly hospital is not a national centre for anything which I think was what ruled it out (or at least made James' preferable). Dunno why Tallaght wasn't picked. James' has actually quite a large footprint - its a big area and has bus and luas connections and is right beside Heuston.

Awec is the sort of guy you'll find at a Leinster match pretending to read the programme but with a copy of Hello magazine hidden inside it

awec isn't the sort of mug that'd pay 5 quid for a Leinster programme in the first place. ;)

I'm not sure about ridiculously easy, to be honest. It's right on the edge of the city centre. Serious traffic demands on anyone getting there (and it's going to worsen significantly now) for most times during business hours. With a huge number of people getting there from outside of Dublin, it's a major hindrance on them.

The car park also isn't going to cover what they expect in terms of requirement in the near future. Feasibility studies suggest it's going to fall short in terms of what is necessary.

You're completely right. I always forget about the **** traffic all over Dublin 8 having never had to drive through it myself.

Tom Brady banned for the first 4 matches and Patriots lose first pick in 2016 and fourth pick in 2017 along with a $1m fine. Big punishment.

Pretty rough, though I have zero sympathy. Curious to see what will happen on appeal - NFL haven't had the best of luck with appeals of late (though they were generally for longer bans).

The Patriots have to be the cheatingest team in sports at this stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Well, they got their title so the damage is done. Question is, how many other times did they do it and nobody knew?

This season will be hard for them now, though without Brady for those games. Not handy games either going on the road to Bufallo and Dallas as well as opener against the Steelers. Brady's season starts at the Colts in October which is a tough match up especially with Revis gone.

Not inconceivable that they go into week six with three defeats already.

You have to laugh that Brady's first game back will be at the Colts.

On another note, I'm intrigued to see if Jarred Hayne can break into the 49ers lineup. On their website he's down as a running back.

It's very unlikely that he'd even make the 53-man roster, if he plays this season it'll be incredible. It's more likely he'll end up on some team's practice squad I'd imagine.

A bunch of 49ers fans reckon he could sneak into the squad as part of special teams. Far more likely he'll end up on the practice squad though.

9ers return game is not exactly stellar so he has a chance but more likely he'll spend a year on a practice squad.
