That entire episode still completely baffles me. I mean, I don't get One Direction but I have a vague understanding of my nieces so can see why they have become a thing, but I know ordinary sensible people that were buying 2 and 3 different nights to see Garth Fcuking Brooks.

The hysteria over that entire thing really made me question a lot about the world around me. Only that it went on for so long I'd probably have thought it was some kind of weird completely far fetched dream.

    I mean, Garth Brooks. Jesus.

    People love a good hoedown.

Ah I wouldn't be so harsh.

I'm not a major U2 fan but there's some of my favourite all time songs on The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, and then how many times have they sold out Croker? Nowadays they're a part of the furniture but back then they were really brilliant.

Probably not as many times as Westlife.

We're really turning on our own here :pac:

U2 have played 6 concerts at Croker (2 x 3 nights), compared to only 4 for Westlife (1, 1, and 2 nights). U2 have also played 2 nights at Slane too!

    U2 rock, you squares!! :D

It's not even really an aberration though. It happens like this all the time - it's essentially designed to happen like this.

I'm talking about democracy generally rather than the specific set-up in the UK. It is entirely possible in a lot of democratic systems for things like this to happen. We just happen to be massively over-represented here in Ireland which leads to a stronger correlation between popular support and number of seats won.
Amazing that UKIP got more votes than SNP and Lib Dems yet land only a single seat. There really isn't any at all sense of democracy in that, even if I think it's a complete crack-pot party.

Yes there is. People don't vote on which party they are electing to Government. They vote on which individual (and by extension party) they want to represent their area in Parliament. That's totally different. SNP aren't going to have candidates anywhere but Scotland. UKIP have them all over the UK. Therefore UKIP were always going to get more votes. But because people were voting on who they want to represent them those votes mean nothing if they are scattered across the UK compared to the SNP who have a smaller number of votes more heavily concentrated. That means individual SNP candidates were getting more votes than individual UKIP candidates. Or at least proportionally more.

This assumption is wrong. In the UK voters vote first of all on party lines, secondly on who they would like to see as prime minster and finally on local candidate lines. That is the problem with their system. It is designed to local politicians but used to determine issues of national importance.

Otherwise how do you explain a 20 year old student beating representing the SNP beating the Shadow Foreign Secretary? Or a general SNP swing of like 15%. All 50 something SNP candidates aren't better than last time. One of the candidates the SNP got elected only joined their party a week ago.

Its the same across the board, that's why they have leaders debates, and party political broadcasts. In Ireland we (sometimes) vote based on our local politicians. But in the UK they rarely do.

    What's wrong with U2?

I really don't like their music at all for a number of reasons.

There are many Irish bands who are better musically, lyrically and a lot more interesting.

Fair enough on the first sentence, but you're going to have to name these bands in the second because U2 aren't one of the biggest bands in the world, ever, for no reason

Well, they could be. Not everything popular has to be good.

For a start, I'd have Thin Lizzy, My Bloody Valentine, the Pogues, Therapy?, Stiff Little Fingers, Rory Gallagher, Gary Moore, Van Morrison, Them, the Hard Ground, the Fatima Mansions, Fight Like Apes. I'm sure there's plenty of more, not that Ireland is a particularly big country.

And I prefer the likes of the Cranberries, the Undertones and Skid Row to U2 too, although I may be more willing to concede points about their creative talent or musical/lyrical prowess versus U2.

I got a smug bitter satisfaction out of watching four party leaders resigning today. I don't care for politics at all.

Music is subjective and all, but none of them bands come close to U2

I was joking ;) using Croke Park as a barometer :) they also played a handy few nights at Lansdowne road :) I've seen them in both and they put on a brilliant show, even when I was musically less interested in them. I know Joshua Tree is the album that's supposed to be their pinnacle but I think the peaked at an Unforgetable Fire. It became easier to dislike them after the turn of the century because the music has been fairly ****e but they still put on a great show.

I hope I'm not the only David Bowie fan here, of the many artists who are before my time he's definitely my favourite.

Big DB fan. He's a great act. While his older stuff always stands up, I'm listening a bit to his 1980s material of late and it's really top class.

Went to see him in Dublin the night he was shooting for his tour DVD. 36 songs played and he was fantastic.

So Google have stopped supporting Silverlight, meaning I can't use Sky Go through Chrome, which means I can't use Sky Go with Chromecast. This is exceptionally displeasing.

Does the sky go android app support chromecast?

While not ideal you could probably keep an old version of chrome that supported Silverlight alongside an up to date version of chrome

I share Sky Go with my family so alas, I can't use it on my phone due to the devices limit. Might try find an old version of Chrome but afaik it updates automatically so would have to find a way to stop that.

I love Bowie, although I prefer his early 70s stuff to later but he does have a lot of good stuff. Even his last album was decent enough.

Netflix does indeed use Silverlight, but they already moved to HTML5 for Chrome.

This should hopefully mean people will move away from Silverlight and use HTML5 players across the board.
