Don't forget to get out and vote today guys

Have to say, the yes side has really gotten on my goat. I'm a yes voter but the bandwagon "look at how amazing and liberal I am" muppet-brigade that are all over this have really pissed me off.

Tempted to just spoil my vote. Am all for equality, but the yes side seem to forget that people are entitled to have differing opinions without derision.

The concern lads on the street are bad, but the two yes campaigners yesterday that demanded to know my vote choice nearly caught a clip.

For a campaign with massive popular support, I really think they've taken the low ground.

Spoil your vote because of a campaign. Seems a bit odd to me

It's maybe the first referendum in a long time that actually meant a lot to people and could make a big difference to some people's lives. As such, a lot of "new" people - young/previously apolitical or unmotivated have gotten involved in campaigning/canvassing for the first time. In previous elections/referenda they would be out canvassing with older party members with more experience, so would have learned a better way to do things. Plus the whole social media/groupthink phenomenon...
Still, its not a reason to spoil your vote if you actually believe in the principle of equality and want to vote yes - you've obviously thought the issue through and made a decision, why let idiots influence that?

Haven't really suffered any of that from the yes side in my part of the country. On the other hand I was handed a vote no flyer the other day informing me that a yes vote could lead to primary school libraries being forced to stock gay pornography.

That would be hilarious if it wasn't true... sad that a campaign resorts to obvious lies to try to influence people

That would imply that schools up until now have stocked good wholesome straight porn, which I'm fairly certain wasn't the case in my school, because believe me if it was anywhere near the school I would have found it :D

Their whole campaign has been pretty much this

Even though this vote has nothing to do with the children

I believe there should be access to equal variances of porn in school. #VoteYes

Yeah, I guess the point I'm making is that everyone is entitled to equal treatment and rights, but the yes vote have alienated me from them as opposed to alienating me from my beliefs.

On the plus side, I now have an additional filter to weed out the sh*tbirds on my facebook. It used to be just the anti vaccination crowd and people who liked every water protest slogan. Now I can add all the "suddenly I'm the no.1 equality campaigner in Ireland since it became popular" to that list of people that won't show up in my news feed any more.

I think the No side has done a far more effective job of campaigning. They've ran a decent campaign based on exploiting conservative peoples fears while the yes side have come across a little haughty.

I'd be voting yes anyway if I was in Ireland, not because of the yes side but because I'm a left leaning, liberal twenty-something.

I'm just so surprised that the irony of groups like the iona institute campaigning for children is lost on people.

Especially when groups who actually have the best interests of children at heart, with track records to prove, such as the ispcc and barnardos, are calling for a yes vote.

Are you really willing to punish all same sex couples now and in the future for the actions of a relatively small number of people though?

There have been people doing the whole thing a disservice, sure. But there have been No advocates every bit as bad. We got leaflets in the door telling us Ireland would suffer the same fate as Sodom (destruction by fire and brimstone) if we voted Yes to the "insanity". There is an article in the Indo from a prominent member of the Muslim community talking about how homosexuals are inherently unfaithful and basically can't be trusted with marriage. The other day I saw a woman campaigning for a No verbally attack a man because he told her he was voting Yes. He wasn't looking to get into a row. He told her he was voting Yes and just looked to keep going. She started grabbing his arm and going mental at him as he just looked to go about his day. It's on both sides unfortunately. You'll see more on the Yes side as they've been more active, especially on the net.

They have done an excellent job, of course alot of it is bordering on lieing.

I'm not on facebook or Twitter so I presume that's where the yes side is getting peoples back up? or the people who will be voting yes as opposed?

I've had a lot of craic winding up militant Yes voters while being out on the beer. Shouting nonsensical stuff like "NO TO GAY KIDS". It's too easy.

The No campaign have actually done more good for the Yes campaign to be honest. I know so many people who probably wouldn't have bothered to vote, thinking the Yes will win be default. But now there's people actively making sure they get down to the polling station and get their friends down too, I've never seen my generation act like that, all down to the fear that the No vote might actually get some numbers....

    Completely agreed.

A lot of the no posters are so infuriating in their insipidness and doctrine that they are insulting to the public. Statements like "vote no for freedom of conscience" are so explicitly ironic it would be laughable if it wasn't so serious.

Posters with "a mother's love is irreplaceable" is damn insulting to anyone who was involved in that generation of magdalan laundries or forced into adoption or to travel over seas due to the indoctrinated shame foisted onto young girls.

At times I wonder if the No slogans are just a bit of brass-eye comic genius.

It's hard to argue against Yes.

The main arguments the No camp has are based on concepts that are generally not shared by most people and certainly not younger generations. The only option the No camp have is to try and blur lines or posit arguments that are not really part of the debate which is why there really is some random stuff out there from the No side.

It's hard to convince people to be against something when they are never going to be affected by it.

Anyone played the Undead Nightmare expansion to Red Dead Redemption? On my first play through here and it's a genuinely unsettling experience. Rockstar San Diego absolutely knocked it out of the park with this title.

The guy on the left was the original suspect in The Silence of the Lambs and the guy on the right was in CSI.

    Seriously, that's true.

Yeah it's awesome, loved the dynamic of clearing out the graveyards when massed of zombies come. Secretly hoping the next Rockstar game is Red Dead

Whoever has taken over the Lep Inn has made a right balls of it, on the outside anyway. I heard it was Eoin O'Malley's brother incidentally.
