Just sitting here thinking of all the things I've had sent through Parcel Motel. Does not bode well, I'll be rethinking the delivery method for the more expensive stuff.

I wonder where the insurance liability lies with this.
I mean, as far as the retailer is concerned the item was delivered.
The shipping company who handled it subsequently never handed it over, so they are liable, I would assume.
Time to scour the fine print I'd say.

    http://www.parcelmotel.com/terms/

According to this PM are liable up to a limit of €100 or value of the item, which ever is less.
You can take out extended cover for more expensive items, but it's not a common product, not known to me at least.

yeah once the seller has delivered to your stated address i.e PM that not their issue , Pm will probably have to cover but will fight some claims id say .

id hate to be the thiefs that open my locker with some of the cheap tat i've bought and delivered there.

If they have any sense they'll cover the full costs. Would be too much bad publicity if they didn't.

Why does the NERD just shout these days? It's horrifically annoying to listen to him anymore

Anyone heading to this one next month in Griffith College?

    https://8bitconference.com/

Any idea what the crowd behind it are like?

Lazersteak merch stand or hen night stripper merch stand?

My attendance on at this event hinges on the answer to the above question :pac:

You talking Nerd cubed or whatever that Youtube channel is?

A lot of the more popular YT channels are very shouty. I'm guessing it's a combination of people watching videos on phones, tablets and laptops with crappy speakers. Even shows where they don't shout like Classic Game Room are mixed really loud.

Perhaps it's also just a symptom of there being too many channels with too many videos. People are literally trying to yell through the cacophany to grab peoples attention. A lot of kids are subscribed to 500 channels and just have stuff running on autoplay in the background while they're doing other stuff so it might jolt you back in like the way advertisements on TV are generally 10db louder than the shows.

AVGN I presumed? A show that should have been retired several years ago imo. I like Rolfe, I think he's good at what he does, AVGN though has outstayed his welcome.

I think Jack Septic Eye takes the trophy for most irritating by screaming TOP 'O THE MORNIN! into the mike on every intro. Lad seems to be making mad coin off it anyway he'll probably inherit the rest of Pewdiepie's audience whenever he does something really dumb and gets banned from Youtube.

Also, while we're vaguely on the subject, is there anyone left that doesn't have a Patreon? Not begrudging anyone their living, but given seemingly everyone's got one and they're all doing semi-well, apparently, so it feels like there's a bubble about to burst.

I'd say theres definitely a youtube bubble. I cant see how the amount of money popular streamers are making is sustainable.
Maybe this Adpocalypse thing is the beginning?

Indeed, it's even spread to emulation circles. The RPCS3 team have now hit $3k per month via Patreon, allowing one of them to work as a full time graphics dev on the emulator. Cemu is another one that has made huge coin from Patreon (nearly $18k per month!) - and it shows too, Cemu is an incredible piece of software.

I'll be supplying the consoles for the A&R section of the upcoming PlayersXpo.
Should be fun, a few to play but most on display.
I've made suggestions about printing out promo media from the time as well as having adverts running on monitors in the area.
    We shall see

I suppose the issue with being an independent artist(ic) person is you can probably do fine in the long run with direct sales or donations or merchandise but as the internet gets more full of content it's getting very hard for new people to build an audience large enough that you'd get a good Patreon income.

I think patronage is definitely the way forward in the long term though. I've been listening to podcasts that run off it for a decade. So does NPR. So do most religions. There are still 10 channels on my sky box with lads talking about Jesus and telling me to send em sponds. They created the model more than YouTube streamers really.

Like we're seeing with the emu development giving people money gets results. I'm getting a better sense of micro communities on the internet again now with Discord channels. It's like the old days of forums being really popular. These centralised social networking systems make people feel vulnerable and isolated. It's better to have niche places with less people, who build a rapport and a genuine sense of community instead of it being a game where one day you say something witty and get 10,000 retweets. I know a guy (NHOJ) does comics, regularly went front page on reddit, he said he got no patrons off it at all. It's his regular people who have some connection with him over time donate.

Anyone heard anything about this 8-bit Conference thing at Griffith College? https://8bitconference.com/ Seems like it's a student organised thing and details on what's actually there seem to be a bit thin.
