Most PCs were at least that price. However the PC itself was somewhat low spec compared to equivalent machines of the time.

Would rather a Sega TeraDrive myself, always thought they looked really cool.

Expensive yolks it seems! One actually sold for this price

I saw it Monday night and I went in with the same attitude you had but in fairness, the 3d was quite tasteful if that makes sense. Would totally recommend

    Yeah after seeing it I completely echo your sentiment. It was really nicely done. This bit worked particularly well;

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT-Q6DjFFXmOzVXt8p36gl_qfNINi69PB06v15gg41aCwXvowaBPA

Was a bit peeved they fixed the part where the glass windscreen falls out of the truck and then it magically reappears again.

Also the T1-000 'three hands' helicopter flying seemed to be enhanced somehow, although that might just have been my overeager eyes keeping an eye out for it.

I went to see that a few years back when it got a limited 38mm re-showing in the city center somewhere. Who did I see in a few rows ahead? The o1smeister himself :)

Haha! That was actually the last time I saw it in the cinema. I can't remember if that was the IFI or The Screen.

Think it was a 386 remember a mate getting a 486 in summer 95 but i suppose having the two in one would have been cool... If you were rich ðŸ˜

Just watching old episodes of bad influence on youtube and they had an amstrad mega pc... Obviously short lived at the nice price of 999 sterling in 1993!

I spent £2,000 on my first PC back in 95!
    A 200mhz beast!
I supplemented the RAM to a mighty 16Mb and put first a Rendition 3D card and, later, a 3DFX card.
I did buy consoles again though, when it was apparent that for the price, or more often less than the price, of a video card you could own a PS or N64.
And you wouldn't have to wrestle with Direct X or sound card settings either!

Seeing a clip of luke fighting vader on a PC back in 95 was a huge deal to my 15 years old self... Cinemania it was on, like encarta for film geeks

95 to 98 or so were the best times for PC games. Multiplayer gaming. The internet. Emulators. Making websites. Whatever they cost it was worth it.

The Teradrive is indeed a gorgeous beast. I'm not surprised they're expensive as hell. Any sort of unusual Japanese Model M keyboard is going to run you €300+ alone.

I didn't even notice the Model M they came with, they really look delicious in black.

Just finished GTA Chinatown Wars on the DS, I've only owned it for over 8 years. :o

Great game, still holds up brilliantly and i love the return to the older style of GTA games. Only criticisms are that the ending is a little flat
would have liked them to explore Huang being made head of the Triads a little more
and once you build up funds from drug dealing it gets a little easy, you can just stock up on armour and the best weapons for missions.

If i remember correctly ( as I sold PCs back then ) the pc and megadrive werent connected other than sharing a powersupply and monitor..so no dumping /cracking roms or using a megadrive pad for " one must fall" or warcraft .. :) Still handy though.

You'd want some commission that time to buy one :)

So, Virtual On OT is apparently available via backwards compatibility on the Xbox One now.
Not sure it's going to work outside of Japanese Xbones so fingers crossed it'll be available to install.

I'd an IBM Aptiva 486DX 33Mhz at the time and so wanted one of them Amstrad Mega PCs.
It was this ad that made me want it, I don't know why, I already had a megadrive and a 486 with a better spec.
I'm pretty sure I still have that 486DX chip somewhere.

Those IBM Aptiva's are swag. If I had the skills I'd love a modern beige setup.

Also beige cordless phone to buy and sell blue chip stocks on.

First proper internet capable computer I had was an Aptiva. £700 it cost me back in either 98 or 99. Broke my back saving up for it over a summer.

One of these bad boys. Ran Half Life really well in OpenGL!

None of your multimedia hub nonsense with that era of PCs!
It still looks like it should be run by staff in white coats and clip boards!

Kerbdog had an Amiga performing internet duties on dodgy dial up at home back then!

Haha! It's funny, grey PCs always looked naff a few years later, however I'm now getting nostalgia towards them

On a similar subject matter, what seems like a good bargain alert going on at the moment.

Lenovo all in one gaming PC down from 2100 to 1200

Most modern computers look super wack. The old ones cost a bomb so they didn't cheap out on the cases like they do today. Hate all that modded Honda civic gamer aesthetic that's taken over in the last 15 years. Last desktop I got's a Thinkstation which still has a reasonable industrial looking chunkiness. Cheap too, 250 squid on eBay.

I'm sorry, but is "super wack" good or bad, or is it all in the context.

"Wow, your ma sure looks super wack in lyrca"

"Jaysus, but your da looks super wack in lycra"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭Shapey Fiend

wack. 1) Lame, sorry ass, aint even legit

I've got a headcold and blowing the thick layer of dust off that computer before I took the picture has me sneezing for the last 2 hours.

Mine was one of these Packard Bell things in 1995

    ZiS41fd.jpg

I think putting an extra 8mb of ram in this thing was the most significant upgrade I ever did to a computer.

I'd a signature edition Mark I Information Age Town computer from Dell. St. Flannan's wouldn't let us use our state of the art computer center after the first couple of months because some scamp changed all the Windows startup screens to horse porn and they decided it would be put to altogether much better use teaching people ECDL courses in the evenings.

Got an aptiva in '99. Came with a dvd-rom and 17'' monitor for the lowly price of 1500.. Loved it though

I owned one of those computers myself way back in the day. Though I don't believe I could get on the internet until 2002.

Is Ennis still the information superhighway capital of Ireland

Speaking of cases, I hate the bulk of modern cases too! Defo pure crap and most certainly whack

I'll be building a new PC after Christmas. My Pentium 4 processor is finally starting to pack it in. That thing should have a state funeral for the amount of **** I've put it through. I have the antec p180 at the moment. I want to stick in that family, love the whole chunk of clean metal look
