What is TSI? Do the lower CC engines benefit from a turbo and a supercharger and the bigger engines only have the benefit of a turbo? I think I read that somewhere.

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

The 1.8 TSI is turbocharged only. 192HP and 320NM torque are the advertised figures. Its basically a 1.8 version of the GTI engine same ae888 family.

The previous Ibiza cupra had the 1.4 unit with both turbo and supercharging and was about 178HP this engine was prone to high oil consumption and other failures.

I've seen dyno runs that show the 1.8TSI unit making closer to 205-210 HP which is cool. I know VW often low ball their figures a bit.

Oops I told people looking at the car that it had the supercharger and turbo:o. What harm they believed me anyway. :pac:

Standard GTI still available clubsport replacing PP. would have made no sense to discontinue the regular GTI

That's not what VW product bulletin no. 14 2016 said.

GTI 220hp All - no longer built for Ireland after week 22 production.

I see on vw website dynaudio now standard for 162.
Both gti and gti clubsport seem to be there.

Yeah it looks like they list the things that used to be in the tech pack as standard now - camera, light assist, Nav. And the "innovation" pack is now Dynaudio and App connect.

The Highline is now seriously well equipped. Standard leather.

Irish golfs have serious standard equipment now. I suppose this is to counteract the qashqai/ Tucson brigade as vw have no direct rival. The Tiguan has moved more upmarket. Looked at one during the week it is a highquality car very premium.

It's funny, back in the early '00's I had a serious hankering for a new MK4 Golf "highline" but they were really silly money compared to say a Ford Focus of the time and the standard kit was a total joke! I remember the "tech pack" of the day included remote central locking and an MFD computer and cost about £700 :pac:

I've been using the factory nav but yesterday had to use google maps on my phone through app connect.

I connected my phone with the cable it wouldn't search using mobile data, so I couldn't use the nav.

I tried setting up a personal hotspot using my phone but it still didn't work.

Any ideas as I'd like to get google maps to work on the discover pro?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,554 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Neil are you iPhone or Android?
For App Connect, google maps is Android only, you have to use Apple maps for iPhone. You don't have to do anything, just plug in the USB cable and it'll work. It uses your mobile data, what you see on the screen is just mirroring your phone.

However the Disco Pro does have Google maps built in afaik (completely separate to App Connect), and I imagine you do have to configure the radio to use your personal hotspot in order to use that. As I don't have the pro nav, I'm not sure exactly how that's configured.

If you want to use it through android have you downloaded the android auto app to your phone? And when connected have you hit accept on all the prompts on first connection?

Yes the discover pro has google maps, I was trying to get that to work on my mobile data. I setup a hotspot but couldn't get it to work.

In my radio, there's network settings in the settings menu someplace that allows you configure it to connect to wifi / personal hotspot. I've tried it a few times, it'll even pick up my home wifi from the driveway. Once connected you'll see the wifi symbol on top of the display.
I'd imagine once that's done then the maps should work.

Are you using an official Apple cable ?

For some reason the car / phone combination will not recognise a generic phone connection cable.

Ill give the Google maps a go tonight and see what happens.

No it's not a genuine Apple cable but everything else works through app connect so I would have thought it was ok?

    Neil,

If you are trying to use the Google Maps function that is part of the discovery pro system, it does not need your phone plugged in and is independent of app connect and carplay. It needs a data connection obtained via wifi as Joe mentioned above. Is that in place? You should see a wifi symbol at the top of the display if it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,554 ✭✭✭JoeA3

As per above, the Google maps that's built into the Pro Nav has nothing whatsoever to do with App Connect. The USB connection is only required for App Connect. It's got to be a configuration issue between your personal hotspot and the Nav unit itself...

Might be worth asking this question actually over on vwroc.com, as the likes of "Booth" on there is bound to know the answer!

Doesn't work here. Cross the border and it'll start working.

Closest is third party nav apps with traffic data and even then it's hit and miss.

I spotted this morning that there are at least 6 dents in the bonnet of the car, a couple of mil in size (must have been road chippings) which have actually scored the bonnet down to the metal :mad::mad:

Very maddening but there's not a lot you can do to avoid it... the front end does chip easily, as does most other cars.

I've had limited success with touchup sticks, etc in the past. I even paid over the odds (imo) for "Chippex" but I had limited enough joy using them. It'll help take the nasty edge off the chips but you'll still see them.

I had a few chips around mine (Lapiz) - got some touch up paint off ebay and actually did a pretty good job. You'd notice if it was pointed out to you but other than that happy enough.

On cars built on or after week 22 last year.

I got build week 51. So I'm okay for the download.

OSI have you uploaded the file to the car? If so any improvements?

Wouldn't it update itself if you connect Mib 2 to the internet?
