VW always say they sell twice as many GTD's as GTI's on an average year but I can't really see the second hand market here reflecting that statement.

Isn't there a shortage of good relatively new secondhand cars for sale in the country in general? That would appear to be the case anyway.

Was reading in the paper today of the revamped Audi s3. Power up to 310 bhp and emissions down so 390 euro to tax the dsg/ s tronic which now has 7 gears. Performance improved slightly too. They have also enhanced the standard spec with heated seats and upgraded audio. Price reduced to 48500 for the Saloon dsg and less again for the hatch.
Suddenly makes the gti/R look expensive and maybe explain why they might put more kit in them to compete?

Went straight to Audi.ie but looks like they are making changes. The only A3 model on there now is the rs3.

A DSG S3 saloon for that sounds like good value all things considered. I like that A3 saloon shape. If it was RWD it would be like a baby m3.

7 speed box would be useful in the golf too, or at least a longer 6th for motorway speeds, for ye know, motorways.

Keeping an eye out for one myself but nothing has come up that catches my eye. Pretty rare. Maybe the first of the pcp deals will be coming to an end next year and they might come more common on the forecourts

Review and info was in today's Sunday business post but there is a review on complete car.i.e. too.
I presume the revamped engine and gearbox will go into a face lifted golf R.
0 to 100km down to an official 4.6 sec with s tronic. I had a look in Audi website and info not up there yet, August I think it says for release.

Had a look on carzone and more golf R for sale than gti or gtd.
Maybe most 2014/15 sold on pcp so another year or two befor they start being seen for sale in numbers.

Yeah would agree re s3 previous but with upgraded engine, gearbox, more standard equipment and a cheaper price has to be worth a look again if in the market for a golf R.

    GTI clubsport
Looks a lot nicer in carbon grey and less "boy racer" than I thought it did originally.

The price of the highline will be on the VW website. Some good offers on 162

It's been stuck in the national newspapers a few times in the last couple of weeks. VW's propaganda magazine, it doesn't contain much actual useful information.

    Yeah
I posted the price from that VW pullout a couple of weeks ago.

Gti pp still on the configurator although apparently not actually available?

It's still on the older highline version which doesn't have the Vienna leather as standard though. Dealer told me €495 more than current but you get the leather, 18" alloys and also rear LED lights which is all worth about €3.5k if you were to buy it as extras last month

It's a pity VW are so slow in updating their website.
It appears they are throwing the kitchen sink kit wise into the golf now so would make you think facelift is imminent.

Audi are the same by the looks if it. No more news about that s3

Does the Golf get a face lift? I don't remember the Mk5 or 6 getting one.

The Mk6 was the Mk5 facelift. Both used the same platform except the Mk6 got a cheaper suspension setup to reduce production costs. I'd imagine the Mk7 facelift will just be a midlife tweak rather than a full makeover. All new Mk8 is not due until late 2018 afaik.

Yeah the digital dash was a sure thing to be next. Virtual cockpit in the audi a3 is an option already. The new tiguan I was in had it. It's a nice little touch, but I believe it's pricey.

I still don't think a facelift is imminent. The only news I've ever seen on the subject is Auto-Express sourced articles and they're famous for making it up as they go along.

I expect the MK8 to appear in late 2017, early 2018 with no significant changes bar spec tweaks until then.

I wonder is that likely to be in the mid life upgrade or the mk8? My German is non existent. It could be worth waiting a while before taking the plunge

There was a pull out in tuesdays independent and mentioned a facelift for all golfs from this october.

So we can probably expect a few extra toys and leather standard in the R as well as the new 7 speed dsg and 306bhp (s3) engine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,792 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I would guess the standard leather, dynaudio etc. Will disappear with the facelift.
Is the clubsport a limited run that will be discontinued when the facelift appears I wonder?

My VW dealer told me the MK7 Golf is now in Run Out phase, before MK8 arrival. Can't imagine the Run Out is going to take 18 months or so.....

From end of week 22 production (today I think) they have discontinued (for sale in Ireland anyway, not sure about the whole of Europe):

    Edition-R
    Lounge
    Comfortline
    GTI 220hp
    GTO PP 230hp

Comfortline/Lounge/Edition-R is being replaced by the Golf Allstar - based on Comfortline, similar specification to the Lounge (had Pano roof and Nav) with some additional features too.

GTI models being replaced by Clubsport 265ps

Few other models have had variants discontinued for Ireland due to lack of uptake
up! - all models (small rentals will now need to be Citygo/Mii then)
    2.0Tdi 190ps Passat's (all except Alltrack)
Passat Highline 1.4Tsi and Comfortline 1.4Tsi DSG
    Passat 4Motion (except Alltrack)
    Scirocco 184bhp
    CC 184bhp
Toureg Terrain Response model (whatever that was)

Hopefully website will be updated soon.

That's interesting. So the only GTI you can order now is the Clubsport?

It does make it sound more imminent than late 2017 then! Perhaps a heavy facelift (ala MK5-MK6) is closer than we thought.

And they've pulled the "UP!" from here completely? Can't say I've ever seen many alright.

These details were circulated to dealers in early May, but I only found out yesterday because I tried to order a Passat 190ps for a customer :(
