Jesus didn't think VW were that down about sales! The Passat was a big boost I'd say as they got it really right in all aspects of what a good saloon should be.

Cant wait until three years time when the whole country is trading in a Tucson and the market gets flooded with them thus trade in price drops like crazy.

Call parts or service! Seriously, sales really aren't bothered once you've bought it... Well unless there's another potential sale.

It depends. I've a great relationship with my sales guy (I damn well should, considering all the business I've put his way), so for stuff like this I'd go to him too, usually I'd get a discount or the labour charge zero'd, etc.

I haven't sat in a Tuscon but my sister in law has one of his predecessors, the ix35(??) and my god, I can't believe that thing sold so well. The interior isn't far off a mid 1990's Toyota Hiace.

Hyundai know their market and they're going for it all guns blazing. Can't turn on the tv these days without seeing that bloody annoying Tuscon ad.

My Mother was going for the new Tuscon before I knocked some sense into her and she got the exit model Tiguan R line loaded with extras, plus got a got deal since I was buying a GTD too at the time!

However Hyundai were offering trad in prices nobody could beat, even I thought it was a bit too much for what she had! They really don't care but personally I don't fancy driving around in a plastic tube made in South Korea so its not for me ever.

In fairness to Hyundai they have got it spot on. The Tuscon is perfect for the average Irish car buyer, it's big, it's cheap and is the kind of car to impress the neighbours who have no interest in cars.
I can't stand the sight of them.

I actually think the new Tucson looks good from far away. They have the looks spot on as it looks imposing and quite substantial which a lot of people want.

The closer you get to it however you can see that it lacks that bit of polish the Germans manage re quality fit etc.
They have managed to outqashqai the qashqai

For 162 they have changed the name of the tech pack to innovation pack and they are giving free app connect as well now.
    APR 1.9% on pcp.

They were bound to start making App Connect standard, with all the hullabaloo with customers thinking its standard when it's not and the dealers generally not knowing much about it or how to get it working.

There's a VW pullout in the paper today.
Says the club sport will cost from around 44k when it comes in July.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,550 ✭✭✭JoeA3

It was always going to be around R money +/- a few hundred.

Presume once you add leather, dsg etc it's a 50k car.
Going to be for a very rare sight I think.

Those recaro buckets are about £1500 extra in the UK.

I think they'll sell more than a few here for sure.

If I bought the club sport I would almost nearly very possibly just be buying it for the buckets.

They had the R on fifth gear versus the wrx and vbh seemed to prefer the subaru, must say the golf looked much better imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,550 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Yeah that episode was originally aired about a year ago...

Out of interest, did you (or any of the other R owners) ever consider an STi? Or are they something you wouldn't go near? Do they even sell them in Ireland anymore?

Id love an MY08 hatch :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,392 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

Didn't really consider it. It would cost more to own, and by a significant amount I would imagine. Depreciation/tax/insurance/mpg all going to be higher ( I pulled that out of my head but I believe it to be true).

Also, I prefer the Golf so there wasn't much deciding.

Pre price drop and tech pack car too. I reckon that will be a hard sell at that price. Not a huge premium for a brand new one bought straight at that price.

Yep, that was a €60k car (ish) new. He'd have had to pay top dollar back then for the 19's, Nav, keyless.

    Rare 3dr too.

Did VW Ireland not compensate buyers of the R at the higher price when they dropped it?
I'm sure I read somewhere they were going to do something for original buyers.
    Maybe I dreamt it.

    I'd say you dreamt it.
I was talking to a man in VW Ireland last year. He said they only sold about 5-6 MK7 R's at the old price. At least one of those customers made their aggravation known to them when the prices were cut but VW didn't (or couldn't?) offer them anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,792 ✭✭✭carsfan2

poor form especially if they only sold that number.
They should have called liveline. Joe Duffy would have sorted VW out.

What would a new 3dr manua realisticallyl set you back if you were doing a straight deal, about 44k?
