What would a new 3dr manua realisticallyl set you back if you were doing a straight deal, about 44k?

Whatever the RRP is minus the cash discount, which can vary a bit if you shop around. 2 - 2.5k I suppose.

The R really needs the dsg box to get the best of it I would have thought.

The DSG is fantastic tech, but I sometimes miss the manual tbh.

autocar.co.uk in car news review of vw golf gti clubsport edition 40 ..

    Just read that review.
A bit overly harsh on the regular gti I think but at the end they still say the R is a better buy.
I often find the UK press to be a bit schizophrenic. A car they will rate highly can become average on the next review unless it's a jag or land/ Range Rover when it's always a class leader regardless of its shortcomings.

How much money did VW reduce the R by?

About 9 grand but they also bumped up the spec a fair bit, adding stuff like the 19's that would have cost approx 1k to spec.

What methods do you use to wash your cars? Flys on the motorway at this time of year are doing a right job to my bonnet and windows. Chrisfix on youtube has some pretty good videos but the proper methods of washing a car takes very long! I take it nobody here in their right mind uses them automatic washes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,106 ✭✭✭dar83

Snow foam followed by two bucket method at minimum for regular maintenance washes.

Having a decent wax applied to the front of the car (if not all over really!) will help with the flies, as the power hose should help lift them right off without anything else required. If they're juicy and stubborn then a snow foam should do the trick and they should be gone once you rinse it off. :)

Get some microfibres, wet them under warm water and put them over the areas that are bad with bugs. Leave them soak for while and blast with the power hose and snow foam.

Played around with the Configurator on volkswagen.de for a gti clubsport less than €35k in Germany :(

Standard German spec tends to be really poor though. German buyers tend to spec up their cars themselves more than we would. Look at the photo you posted there. No climate, very basic radio...

Went on the German site myself there. Joe's not wrong about the poor standard spec. Everything is an extra on that car apart from the club sport seats funny enough which is a big ticket item.

It doesn't come with cruise control even. Better way of doing it though, let the customer decide on the extras, it's their car after all.

It's the way VW Ireland used to do it, except they didn't give you the option to spec it up :pac:

A lad posting on autostadt.ie has a new GTD on order for 162 and his dealer has told him Dynaudio, App-Connect and possibly even leather are going to be standard fit...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,086 ✭✭✭GustavoFring

App connect is coming in the tech pack for 162 alright. No idea on the GTI/D/E or R but the highline is getting leather so they well might.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,550 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Amazing the turnaround VW Ireland have made in the last 2 years with regards to spec'ing up the cars. It was completely unheard of for them to do that until very recent times.

VW UK have tended to put leather in the last GTI's - i.e. the MK5 and MK6 got leather towards the end of it's lifecycle... the MK8 might be a bit closer than we think.

FFS VW, got a highline in Jan and now they're offering leather as standard.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the end of my PCP coincides with the release of the Mk8

To be honest, I'd actually prefer the standard highline seats!

I would be surprised if that happens.

    First generation (A1, Typ 17; 1974–1984)
    Second generation (A2, Typ 1G; 1983–1992)
    Third generation (A3, Typ 1H; 1991–1998)
    Fourth generation (A4, Typ 1J; 1998-2005)
    Fifth generation (A5, Typ 1K; (2003–2009)
    Sixth generation (A6, Typ 5K; 2008–2014)
    Seventh generation (A7, Typ 5G; 2012–present)

4 year cycle is too short, Early 2018 would be my guess.

I predict we'll see the left-hookers doing the rounds in the dealers around October 2017 (same as they did recently with the Tiguan, Passat) but you won't see a MK8 registered here until early 2018. The GTI will follow that summer and the R sometime later than that again.

Too bad I'm jumping ship, think Carsfan has the right idea :)

Leather and dynaudio must be the guts of 2.5 grand. Surely VW would not give that much for free?
They already have loads of kit and are available at very low apr.Let's not forget they also are great cars. VW can't be that desperate. If this is the case will do nothing for values of existing cars.

    What's next Vintage vrs?
    Mustang or Prius?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,392 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

    A Rwd Prius appeals :)

I'd be skeptical myself and this info came from a dealer and we all know how notoriously reliable they are for stuff like this ;)

That said, the MK7 is now approaching the latter stages of its lifecycle and Wolfsburg may just want to clear a stockpile of MK7 leather seats, so it may be costing VW Ireland nothing extra.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,792 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I would have thought the one model VW Ireland were having no trouble shifting was the golf gti/ gtd/ R judging by the increase in numbers already.
We already get a good spec here.
Maybe there will be a price rise.

I've agreed a trade in for mine for July.
The dealer already reckons he's giving me too much and I reckon he is especially if they throw even more kit in them for free.

Are you really moving on too Vintage vrs?

    What are you changing to?

No way they will give Dynaudio as a free extra.
