Complaining without showing evidence just counts as whinging. QED

May I ask what you are looking for then?

To see if it's just me that noticed it and to ask the people doing it (indirectly) if they'd feel okay spouting the same opinions in front of their loved ones.

Internet forums are not populated by robots though, these are real people with real opinions.

Are men (and women of course) not allowed to have opinions that you (or I, or anyone for that matter!) dont agree with?? sounds like misandry to me!

I haven't noticed it at and I've been using Boards for a considerable amount of time, I'm sorry you are having this experience.

Honestly, I do not care if you believe me or not, but I'm not gonna traverse through the last few pages of After Hours just to satisfy a few people.

If you don't wanna engage without quotes, that's grand I'm not asking you to.

It's something I've noticed and maybe you haven't, but it doesn't mean it's not there.

I don't feel like I've anything to prove so yous can rail against the lack of proof or not, it makes no odds to me.

Probably because you'll struggle to find anything!

It's not to satisfy "a few people". Its to show that such a thing exists and bring actual examples to the table to discuss.

If you are refusing point blank to provide evidence of something you claim is there, it points to the conclusion that it is not in fact there at all.

You said I was winding up a certain few people.

Why would people get wound up if they weren't the ones posting the things I'm talking about?

Making claims and repeatedly refusing to back them up can wind some people up.

Not at all, but some opinions are disconcerting. I'd like to know if the people with them think it's grand to say on the internet where no one knows you or if they'd stand by them in front of family and friends.

Over the past 2 weeks or so, there have been numerous threads where I've read (not necessarily posted in) and threads where I've seen scary amounts of misogyny (No I won't give examples, there's no need to start pointing fingers).

Now before anything else, I'm not saying every man on boards.ie is a dirty misogynist and they should be burnt at the stake!

It's only a small proportion of people, and that includes women too. What's scary is the amount of normal people who just drop these seemingly innocuous statements, that have such ugliness behind them.

What I want to know is, where are your wives? Your sisters? Your daughters? Your mothers? Your grandmothers? Your nieces? Your best friends?

When you make this statements against women, you're not thinking about them. You're thinking about those "other" women, those "other" women who only want to make trouble. But the reality is, when you make sweeping statements like "women these days pah"* there is no difference between those women and those you know and love.

It scares me that so many people out there have this below the surface dislike (I won't say hate) of women and when you're online and anonymous behind your computers or your phones, you feel its okay to make these statements. Why? Would you say these things in front of the women you love and respect in your life without a hint of embarrassment or guilt?

*Not an actual comment I've come across; just an example

    Ah, misogyny!
Sure isn't it the new homophobia? Panti will not be happy...

My opinion is that bananas are nicer than oranges. I'm happy to tell my family about this opinion.

I've definitely noticed it. I wouldn't single out individual posts, because it's more of an 'atmosphere' than anything specific, but I think there is an increasing amount of what I perceive to be subtle (and not-so-subtle) misogyny on Boards (and on the Internet in general). It seems to raise its head whenever anything related to feminism or discrimination against women crops up. To be honest, this thread is a perfect example. The vociferousness of the denial is quite something...

But if I'm looking for people to see if they've noticed the same thing, how can I do that if I'm showing them?

You can go find it, it's there so you can be my guest. Or, you may have a different opinion and find that, as far as you're concerned it's not.

This makes no sense though. If I'd said, "Oh I read somewhere that all cats have an extra chromosome, don't remember where but I did", and you didn't believe me, you could do a search and find out that indeed, cats have an extra chromosome. Just because it's not presented on a silver platter doesn't mean it's not there. And this kind of thing is less tangible than a "fact" like the cat thing.

whats disconcerting to you is not to others, its disconcerting to many of us, how you make such claims of misogyny yet refuse to give evidence on it.....but not to you...see what im getting at? opinions everyones got them, and thats ok

You're a racist. Don't deny it. If you do then the vociferousness of the denial will just show your guilt.
Because apparently you then asking me for examples of you being a racist is evidence that you're a racist.

Lol, the misuse and overuse of the term misogyny has caused it to start to lose its meaning recently. I really urge people to consider how harsh the word is capable of being when used in the correct context but calling every little thing that inconveniences women and offends their opinions misogyny really makes it lose its truer meaning.

Kind of like blatantly obese people who claim they have "curves".

If thats the dreaded misogyny you are talking about then we'll have to answer your question with a no. Also recommend reading the post with the definition of misogyny so you dont make the same mistake again. To save you time I googled it and got this:
Misogyny (/mɪˈsɒdʒɪni/) is the hatred or dislike of women or girls. Misogyny can be manifested in numerous ways, including sexual discrimination, denigration of women, violence against women, and sexual objectification of women.
